1/30/10 - Neeko has been adopted!!

1/1/10 - Neeko is pending adoption with his foster family!

12/7/09 - Over the weekend we had a little snow and boy did Neeko go crazy!  He loves the snow!  He runs so fast and jumps on the deck, but he forgot it was covered with snow and he went sliding!  It was so cute.  ,We had houseguests over the weekend as well and all they said over and over again was how Neeko is such a "nice boy".  Before everyone went to bed at night, Neeko made his rounds inspecting every room.  In the morning before he would go outside, he needed to check the bedrooms again and make sure all the people were still asleep where he left them the night before.  We also discoverd over the weekend that Neeko likes vegetables!  He ate cauliflower, carrots and peas with his dog food and loved every bite!  Oh, and one more thing!  We have been working on the "down" command which he was very reluctant to do...well, last night we had success!  Neeko actually moved his front paws forward and began to "down".  I have discovered that potato chips are one of Neeko's favorite snacks and he will do almost anything for them...including "down".

11/27/09 - This update for Neeko is long over due!  Neeko has been such a good boy since joining us here about one month ago.  He has adjusted very well and is such a mush.  Neeko doesn't play with toys very much, but loves attention.  He will sit at your feet and sleep for hours.  A few things I have learned about Neeko so far...he is a gentle boy, taking treats from your hands with the utmost care.  He is great with kids.  Our two year old nephew walks up and kisses Neeko's face all the time.  Neeko doesn't eat much, only when hungry.  He does let us put our hands in his bowl as long as we warn him we are there.  Neeko likes to mark trees...it can be difficult taking him on walks because he is very curious and likes to sniff all the trees.  We have found that a chest harness works very well to walk him and stops him from pulling. He also walks well using a "gentle leader", but we have opted not to use it as it seems hard for Neeko to breathe when wearing it.  He has a short little nose and makes gruning and weezing sounds all the time...especially when excited.    Neeko knows basic commands like sit, stay and paw.  He doesn't "down"...we are working on this one.  We have yet to introduce him to another dog formally yet as we were made aware he may have dominant tendancies.  We did however have the neighbors dog accidentally run into our yard when Neeko was out.  Neeko was very intersted in sniffing the other dog...he did not act mean, but did growl slightly.  On Wednesday, we took Neeko to the groomers to get his nails and ears cleaned as well as get a bath.  The groomer said he did an excellent job and was very sweet.  He even played well with her two pugs.  Overall Neeko would be excellent in a home with a big yard to run in and possibly be the only dog, or maybe with a small, more submissive second dog!  We have really enjoyed having him here!

9/4/09 - Neeko is a spry 7-year old, around 55 pounds. He loves to play and loves affection. He warmly greets you when you return home, nub wagging. We’ve had him for around 6 months and immediately fell in love with him.
He is a protector. If there are windows at his eye level, Neeko keeps a watchful eye. He does growl and bark at times, when he can see what is going on outside of his domain.
Neeko is a fearless dog and will approach strangers with the same interest, curiosity and love each and every time. His natural dominant traits can pose issues for other dogs in your home, the park, and wherever other dogs are encountered. His aggression doesn’t manifest at every new meeting. It is very random and usually consists of mounting and nipping at the other dog.
He would be perfect in an only-dog family who can take the time to walk and play with him on a daily basis. Also, it is a plus if you aren’t around other dogs most of the time. Neeko likes to assert his dominance and this is a put off at dog parks and the like.
He has tons of energy and is generally easy going. When we adopted him, he wouldn’t walk on a leash without dragging us down the street. We bought a gentle leader and now he walks beside us, pulling only occasionally. A firm “heel” command is all that is needed.
He has a scar on his head from a tumor removal. His medical history shows that one was also removed from his ear. He has a polyp in his rear but it doesn’t cause him any distress according to our vet.
Neeko is a great dog that deserves to live stress free. A country setting with a big yard would be perfect. Playing, running, and bone chewing are some of his favorite activities.
