8/1/11 - Well we had a rough beginning with Nick as he was a wild monster. It has been over a year now and he has settled down somewhat. He is still very active, and I love to watch him run around, he likes to play with Rizzo and sometimes I have to get in the middle and break it up. He loves to cuddle now and has to sleep right next to me or he cries. This guy is a happy little puppy, and is vey active. I let him out during the day so he can run and burn his energy down. He has been a great addition to this family and he keeps me busy, we still have to crate him when we aren't home as he can still be a bit destructive, we are working on this still. He responds to us quiet well and sometimes he eggs us on with a sock in his mouth. He loves to play and give licks. He is not the same guy we picked up last year. 11/22/10 - Nick has become quite the gentleman. He is still working on containing his excitement but overall he has come a long way. He was slow to learn but with lots of love and encouragement he is a great dog!!! He and Rizzo play, sleep, and eat together and have blended wonderfully. He took to cuddling a few months back and has not walked away from that. In fact he is snuggled, head on my lap as I write this. Somewhere along the way he learned to talk and never looked back. He is not barking but has developed a series of grunts, and sounds he uses all day long to tell you what he needs or what his mood is. One could say he trained us. He has one for everything from having to go outside, to play time, bed time, I lost my toy, even "Hey it is 7 AM shouldn't there be some kibble in this bowl?" He has come so far he is almost like a different pup. He has brought a ton of laughter and fun into our home for Rizzo and the rest of the family. He is a sweet, sweet boy who cannot get or give enough love. We are thrilled to have him as part of our family and look forward to many more years!!!! 7/5/10 - Well we have been working with Nick daily. He now cuddles up at night and loves to give kisses. He still has a lot to learn as he does not share well with Rizzo. He prefers to be outside a lot and spend time pulling the leaves off the tree and eating the bark. He finally lets us know when he has to go out to go to the bathroom, and we are down to maybe one accident a week. He still doesn't come when you call him and we are looking for a training class to get him enrolled in. He eats everything in his way and has gained weight and size. Walking him around the neighborhood he is getting better. He still tries to pull, but he is getting a lot better than he was originally. I spend a lot of time with him and Rizzo daily. I am working on getting them a good area to play in. They are both on Interceptor to prevent heartworm and we have them on Advantix for the fleas, although it did not seem to help as I found more ticks on them than without the medication. We have switched to Frontline Plus and hope that will help as we normally use Frontline with no issues. We will see how he responds to the training and if he improves his behavior. Once we get this accomplished we will let you know how it is going with him. 4/24/10 - Well it's been almost a full month and we are all still adjusting. Nick is being a little pup and loves to see and eat everything.,,We have had him checked out and he is doing great. We moved to Massachusetts and he is dealing well. He has made himself right at home. He loves to be outside and we spend a lot of time together outside.,,Rizzo or other boxer (also from Boxerangelsrescue) is doing great with Nick. They are now best friends and it's hard to separate the two. They spend almost 24 hrs together.,,His is a good pup, I am in the process of training him to walk with me daily. Next I will work with Rizzo so I can walk both dogs together at one time.,,I plan on taking Nick out to climb up in the mountains. Nothing hard just small little areas where I can watch over him and make sure that he is ok. 4/4/10 - Hi,,Well it has been just about a week since Nick has joined our home. He is such a pleasure. Ever playful, and curious, just a joy to be around. Both Nick and Rizzo hit it off the moment they met, but Rizzo soon had to play the role of enforcer, teaching Nick the rules of the house, and how to behave. Depending on his mood he is the perfect gentleman, or he reverts back to super puppy, flying around the house like he is on a craze. He has increased the laughter in our home, and has become a great addition to our family.,Because of the rain here it has been difficult to get the pups out to the yard to play. Today we finally got them out pretty much all afternoon. They jumped, ran, and played ball together. It was great to see Nick becoming more comfortable in his new home, and Rizzo accepting him for all his puppy quirks. I could not believe it but they tired each other out and are sleeping next to me as I write this. ,Since Nick has been here he has mastered the command wait. He will wait for a treat, wait in one spot for you to return (unless it takes you too long), and wait for his food to be put down. He is also getting the hang of back up when he is standing somewhere and you need to get by. For example when he needs to go outside. He will sit at the door and look at you. When he first came he would sit there and you would have to try to climb over him to get to the door. Now all you have to say is Nick back up and he will move back. ,He is very smart, and loving. He has been wagging his tail, and giving love to Dan, Rizzo and I. Sometimes a rogue kiss, other times he will just plain cuddle up with one of us and give kisses. He is a sweet boy and we look forward to many years of playing, giggling, and cuddling
3/28/10 - Nick has been adopted! 3/17/10 - Nick is pending adoption! 3/16/10 - Well, Nick got a bath yesterday!!! He was unsure and not liking it but he just stood there and took it like a man. He wasn't afraid. Nick is adapting so well to his home it's amazing. He now has free roam of our downstairs and is doing very well. If you leave shoes or hats around he feels they are his personal toys so watch out. I simply say NO and he opens his mouth to drop it saying "what?? it was on the floor so it must be mine." I can't stress enough how sweet he is. Oh and he loves the sun! Today was the nicest day and he spent a lot of time basking in the sun ( when he wasn't playing with the other guys ). His bump has gone down by about 50% which makes us very happy. My kids are doing excellent with him and he with them although he still likes to jump sometimes (not often) and can knock down my 4 year old. He feels very bad when that happens. 3/13/10 - 3/13/10 - Nick is a joy, he has adapted so well to the other dogs and always wants to play - can you say energy. His potty training is coming along great. He dosen't seem to like the rain too much, however today the rain has been a little excessive. The bump on his head is slowly going away. 3/8/10 - Great news!!!!!! The bump on Nick's head is not a tumor!!! The medical report came back and the bump is nothing to worry about (thank goodness). The doc says it should just go away by itself. Nick has learned respect for his other dog mates in the house and can play nicely with them without being too rough. Did I mention he is a fast learner. We gave him a big chew bone today to see if he would be possesive and he was anything but. He has no problem sharing something that he loved so much. Stay tuned..... we are going to bathe him soon!!! By the way, we used the dremel on his nails and although he was nervous he did very good. 3/7/10 - Day 5.... Nick had his vet check. He seems to be in very good health except for the big bump on his head. Some test are being run but the doctor strongly thinks he was hit on the head and has a large hematoma(sp??) that will eventually absorb back in. Nick learns very quickly!!!! He is almost completely potty trained, knows how to sit and is very gentle when taking food. I also have been putting my hands in his food bowl with no problems. He is a big piggy since I think he never knew when his next meal would be and where to get it. Can anyone say play!!!! He loves to play with his toys!!! It's just amazing how fast he is adapting to home life. Oh and can he cuddle!!! After a hard playing session he just melts by your side. He loves to play with my other boxers however he need constan supervision at this point because he gets a little rough. A simple no command and he looks up for direction. I can't stess enough how quickly he learns.
3/6/10 - Here is a video of Nick playing!
3/4/10 - Nick - Day 2, Can anybody say puppy! This guy has some
energy. He wants to play with our three dogs all of the time, but we
have to limit him as he does not yet know how to play. We have been
working diligently on his
potty training and he is adapting slowly, but what can you expect
from a little boy who has been on the streets all alone. He doesn't
have a mean bone in his body. Tomorrow he will be going to the vet for
his first check and get the lump on his head looked at. |
