2/9/10 - I just wanted to send you a quick email and update you on Santino.  I must say at first we were hesitant with adopting an older boxer but have NO REGRETS at all.  I can't tell you how much we LOVE Santino.  He's really the best dog and fits into our home so well.  He still has puppy energy and never gets tired of playing.  I take him for a 3 mile walk 4-5 times a week.  He goes with me whenever I can take him.  I want to thank you and the rest of the BAR volunteers who helped bring him into our home.  This has been the best experience as Santino has won our hearts.  My husband adores him and does great with him...he got over his shyness towards dogs very quickly.  Our cats...well they still don't like Tino...and I think he understands and hopes they will come around in time.  We had to take him to the vet because our male cat swats at him every chance he gets and got him in the eye one day when we weren't watching.  He had a small scratch on his eye, but we got medicine and it is all cleared up.

12/18/09 - Santino is pending adoption

12/7/09 - Santino has been with us for a little over a week and he is absolutely wonderful.  He's still sad that the cats won't play with him, but I think he understands and believes they'll come around in time.  I brought him to my job last week where there were lots of people and kids and he was so happy to be the center of attention.  He was great with the kids and only hopped up once to give someone a kiss on the chin.  Last night we went and met a friend who has 2 dogs and Santino was soooo excited to play with them.  He does really well with the dogs he's met so far.  I think he really believes that he is a lap dog.  If I sit on the floor with him he comes over and plops his butt right on my lap, and if we let him on the couch he tries to lay right on top of me.  I'll send some new pictures soon!

11/28/09 - Santino entered our home late this morning and so far seems to be adjusting well.  We have not tested him with any other dogs yet, but he is an absolute gentleman to our cats.  They have never met a dog and are very very nervous, but Santino seems to understand this and doesn’t even let them know he sees them.  He’s been wonderful with all people he has met so far and just loves to be petted.  We took him outside for some play time and he showed us how young and playful he really is.  He has a rope toy here and he ALWAYS wins.  He does pull a little bit with the regular collar, but walks perfectly with the gentle leader.  He’s very smart and knows sit, stay, come, down, and paw.  It hasn’t been a full day yet and we’re enjoying him so much and look forward to getting to know him more!
