10/24/05 - I haven't done an update in a while, and I just wanted everyone to know how in love I am with this boxer gal.  She has so much personality and is such a good dog.  Everyday Lucy has the pleasure of accompanying me to work.  I'm a veterinarian and my sister works the reception desk, so Lucy has become our mascot.  She stays behind the reception desk to greet the clients.  She has become such a presence there that when she's not there, people ask "Where's Lucy today?"  She loves her "job" and has a good life with us.  Thank you, BAR.

1/24/05 -Lucy is doing great here. She is now a well behaved little lady! It's so good to have her in our home. Thanks again, BAR!

9/27/04 - Let me tell you all about my little boxer pup Lucy! She is absolutely the most adorable boxer I have ever seen (I'm a little biased). However, she is also the SMALLEST boxer I have ever seen- making her even cuter. She's almost 7 months old and only 36 lbs!!I love her to death and she is doing very well. Just wanted to send an update!!
Again, keep up the good work BAR! Denise Mulry, DVM

8/17/04 - Well, Lucy has settled in quite nicely. She's almost got the housebreaking thing down pat and she has such a wonderful personality. I couldn't be happier with my new found friend. Since she's with me almost all the time (work, home, etc.) I feel so lonesome
for her when we're apart!  Thanks again to everyone at BAR- I'm impressed with the organization, and what you guys do for the dogs. Keep up the good work! Denise (& Lucy)

7/26/04 - Just wanted to give you an update on Lucy (yes, we named her Lucy.....). She is just the cutest little thing! Intelligent, but stubborn. So far housebreaking is going well, although the first half of the week was rough. I think she's getting it now. We still have an occasional accident (urine) but they are getting less and less. She's eating like a pig and she's gained almost 2 pounds since I've had her this past week! And she gets along with my other dog, Benny, just great. He has so much patience with her as she chews on his legs and cheeks.
Troy and I are absolutely in love with her. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to welcome her to my home and am thrilled that I get to watch her grow and thrive. Thanks again, Denise

7/19/04 - From Rosy's new Mom - Just wanted to give you a quick update on "Rosy" (We plan to change her name, but haven't come up with something yet....) We are absolutely in love with her! Boy, does she have personality! She did very well in the crate last night (Dry and clean!) but I was very attentive about it and only left her for about 6 hours.
She is the perfect addition to our family and exactly what we were looking for. Thank you so much for your help. Sincerely, Denise

7/18/04 - Rosy has been adopted

7/15/04 - Rosy is pending adoption

7/15/04 - We had a very exciting morning this morning!! When we got up Roses' crate was dry!! This is a first for our sweet little girl and we're so happy about it - so was Rose I think. I think she was really working at it too because when I opened the crate she piddled just a little so I scooped her up to hurry outside and she piddled just a bit more right before we got to the door. Then outside we went and she was so relieved to get there (no pun intended). If Rose can stay dry & clean in her crate that's a HUGE step towards her being housebroken and I am just so pleased! If you're considering adopting Rose keep in mind that you're going to need to either invest in several crates from puppy size up through adult size or in a crate and a barrier to put in it so it's just big enough for her as she grows. If you buy a big crate for Rose she will probably use one end as the bathroom and sleep at the other end which will make housebreaking a much more difficult process.
We're working to teach Rose all the good habits she'll need when she's a big dog. We don't allow jumping up, which is cute now but won't be so cute when she's 50 lbs. We're also working on teaching her to sit and to down and to keep her mouth off things that don't belong to her. (It's hard work for humans to have a puppy in the house!) But we want Rose to be a fine upstanding member of society and a nice family pet and the best way to do that is to teach her now what she'll need to know later. Sometimes cute puppy behaviors don't translate to cute adult dog behaviors if you know what I mean. Rose is learning to walk well on the leash - she and my 5 year old daughter are a pair, while I work on obedience with Daisy my daughter works with Rose on her leash training, not allowing Rose to pull and teaching her to watch the person on the other end of the leash. They're learning together how to do this stuff and it's so fun to watch! I'd love to see Rose go to a family with kids, they're so fun together!

7/12/04 - It's official! The cutest puppy on the planet has come to stay with us until she finds her forever home! Rosy came to us via a downstate shelter where she was turned in by a family who "Couldn't handle her" - imagine that? She's a baby for crying out loud! She is the most beautiful mahogany brindle with a white chest and toes and she just looooves everyone. Loves the dogs, loves the kids, would like to love the cat she met but the cat wanted nothing to do with that. She is not housebroken and, although she goes in her crate nice and quietly and settles, does not appear to be crate trained either. Some of that is from being in a pet store and not having the opportunity to go potty anywhere but in the cage. We'll work on that but she's so young it'll take a while before she's completely reliable - probably long after she leaves us. This girl won't be around long - a week, maybe two so if you want her you'd better get your dibs in now!!
