We adopted a little, white, 9 week
old bundle of joy on Sept. 3, 2005. We named her Zoey.
She came to us from the Pocono Mountains (we are in upstate NY), raised
by two of the best Foster-Mommies around! Zoey and her sister, Dora
(Nikki now) were bottle fed from 2 days old. Her Foster Mommies gave her
a lot of love and cuddles until she was big enough to come home to us.
Now, Zoey is almost 8 months old! It is hard to believe. She has gotten
so big, almost as tall as our 6 year old! She has a big Boxer
brother, Terron, and a big Beagle sister, Brandy. She also has 2
kitties to play with. She is still learning that kitties don’t
like to be stepped on. They do not consider that play, much to the
dismay of a young Boxer. She is as energetic as a 7 ½ month old
Boxer pup will be! Loves to run and pounce. She is a sight
to see prancing around in the back yard with a stick in her mouth, her
head and tail held high. I could just see her in a show ring.
She is a beauty!
Since Zoey is deaf, she is learning sign language. She has 4 signs
down pretty well: good girl, no, sit and go. For some reason, she
doesn’t get “come here” yet and just forget about “stay”. I think
it’s just puppy stubbornness. She is crate trained, now. WOW
was that a struggle. She absolutely hated the crate. It took
almost a month to get her comfortable with it. She still isn’t
wild about it, but she tolerates it. Thank you to everyone in the
BAR group that helped me through that one!
Zoey is happy, healthy and growing like a weed. She has more
learning to do, but she will definitely get there. We are so happy
to have her in our family. I can’t remember life without her, or
should I say I can’t remember peace and quiet! 2 Boxers playing
will definitely raise the decibel level in your house!
Zoey is so loving and trusting and just loves to snuggle. And,
SMART! Wow, she learns quickly. You can almost see her “wheels”
turning figuring out how to get to something she isn’t supposed to have.
Boy, can she be creative!! I have to admit, it is so hard to
discipline her with that face and those eyes. They just melt my
heart. Boy, does she have me trained! I do stay firm with
her because I have to, but it is sooooo hard!!
Thank you BAR for allowing us to adopt our little Zo-Zo girl. We
just lover her to death! Penny
9/3/05 - Daisy and her sister Dora
came to BAR when they were only a few days old from a breeder. One
of our foster homes bottle fed these two little cuties until they could
eat on their own. Daisy was adopted
today and Dora will be going home to her new family very soon.
