7/17/06 - Sorry I haven't updated Junie's site, but Junie is now an aunt/second mom.  I had a baby girl and Junie is just so good with her.  Junie gives her kisses all of the time.  Whenever I come back from the store Junie has to come out to look for the baby.  If I am on the floor with the baby, Junie wants to be part of the action.  Junie would have been such a great mommy.
I brought Junie back to the surgeon a few weeks ago to have her back right knee checked.  The surgeon is very happy with Junie's progress with her front legs.  The back knee still has to be watched, but the surgeon doesn't want it to be operated on yet.  All of her running around with Winston (the pug) is keeping her trim and fit and her legs are all muscle.  The surgeon said that when she gets a bit older she may need knee surgery, but not at this time in her life.  Junie is just so happy.  I wish that anyone who knew Junie could see her now.  She is nothing like she was when I first adopted her.  She chases groundhogs, rabbits, squirrels, and butterflies.
She is just so happy and the most lovable dog I have ever known.  She used to be scared of EVERYONE.  Now she loves just about everyone.

5/25/06 - The first two pics to the right are of Junie and her buddy Winston.  Winston keeps Junie in good shape and her legs in good working order.  She runs so fast these days and she is so very happy

3/4/06 - I just wanted to give you an update on Miss. Junie B. The first month I took Junie home I brought her to the vet to have a check-up.  They stated that she would have dry eye because of her removal of cherry eye.  The drops did not seem to help.  Also on that visit the vet told me that Junie will need surgery on her front legs because they were splayed, but she shouldn't have surgery until she is fully grown.  They at that time the vet gave me a phone number to a surgeon (to fix her
legs).  Before I was able to get an appointment w/ the surgeon Junie had to go back to the vet because her back legs were giving out on her (later on the surgeon informed me it was because her knees would lock and in order for them to unlock she had to walk it off.  Well she wouldn't walk it off and her hind quarters would just give out).  Within the next month or so I got a referral and an appointment w/ the surgeon.  He informed me that she needed to have surgery possibly on all four legs.  But first they wanted the front legs fixed.  The surgeon stated that her front legs should have been fixed when she was much younger, not at this time or when she was fully grown. I informed the surgeon that I had just rescued Junie and that I brought her in w/in months of the rescue.  So Junie had both of her front legs fixed at the same time about 6 weeks ago.  The surgeon stated that Junie had Bilateral Carpal Valgus Osteotomies.  The same day they did the surgery they also did more surgery on her eyes because the eyelashes were irritating her eyes causing her to rub them all of the time which was scratching her cornea.  Well I have to say her eyes look great and her feet will never be totally straight, but they are 95% straight.  Now I will be going back to the surgeon in a month to have her back legs looked at, with surgery again being a possibility.

12/8/05 - Junie is such a good girl.  I am able to leave her alone w/out worrying if she is going to get into trouble and when I come home whether it be 2 minutes or two hours she is so excited to see me.  She will not go out to the bathroom though unless I am home, which can be a hassle.  She loves my boyfriend, but god forbid she let him take her out to go potty.  Anyway I have to bring Junie to a specialist this month w/ surgery in mind.  She obviously has problems w/ her front legs not being shaped correctly, but now she has a new issue because the way her body is shaped.  Due to her font legs being the way they are her back tendons or cartilage is to loose around her knee caps which cause them to pop out all the time, causing her to go lame numerous times a day.  The only was to fix this is by surgery.  The vet said that this surgery must come before she has surgery on her front legs.  I guess I'll find out more at the specialist.

11/4/05 - Well it has been two months since I adopted Junie.  She is a sweetheart and I love her to death.  She does bark at every little noise and I don't even live by a road.  We have chickens and a rooster and every time the rooster crows, Junie barks.  There is also a cat at my job and Junie tries her hardest to be the cats friend, but the cat also just had her w/ kids for the first time and she was so sad when they had to leave.  Junie also prefers men over women, whenever my boyfriend comes over she whines and cries until he gives her attention  (she does the same w/ other men when they are around).  She is doing great here and I am so happy to have adopted such a good girl.

10/5/05 - Junie is doing well.  She has been attached to me and only me.  She will only let me take her outside and she will not go w/ anyone else.  I don't know if that is a good thing.  I brought her to the vet. to have her eyes checked and they said that cherry eye is best to be folded back in instead of cut out so she is going to have problems w/ her tear ducts in her left eye.  Although her eyes do look great.  Very little red in them.  I love her to death and she always makes me laugh w/
her hysterical antics.

9/4/05 - Junie has been adopted.

8/23/05 - Junie B is pending adoption!

8/13/05 - Junie B. moved to a new foster home to make room for another dog to come into rescue.
Junie B. is doing great here. We had a bad day when her food was changed. But now that she is feeling better, we have had no accidents in the house. Today we had to go out for awhile and I locked Junie in the kitchen. Well when we came home 5 hours later, Junie was in the living room with the other dogs. I'm very happy to report that Junie was a good girl. She loves to play with my female boxer. She is a goofy girl, but always gentle. She is being fostered in a house full of kids and she is great with all of them. She also has no problem with the other dogs.
Junie's eyes still look a little cloudy, so she is still getting medicine in them. It also looks like they might have to fix her right eye again. I will have to call the vet again. But like I said, Junie doing great.

8/5/05 - We're long past overdue with Junies update. She's still doing wonderfully with us, her eyes look so much better since the surgery although she's still rubbing them, etc. but it's got to be itchy having that heal. Junie is spending the nights out of her crate and doing wonderfully with the housebreaking. I'm still hesitant to leave her loose when we are not home, call me paranoid ;-) Junie is just the best girl with her splayed out feet and her goofy behavior. She follows Mike around and as soon as he stops moving will sidle up behind him and lick him. It makes him crazy but she's just so in love with him! Today she was licking his thermos - that way he wasn't yelling I think. It was soooo funny! I will try my best to take some new pictues of her this weekend.

7/21/05 - This is going to be one of those 2 second updates. I just wanted everyone to know that June-sie B. is having her cherry eye surgery tomorrow. I just can't wait to see that sweet face without her eyes being such a mess! I'm so excited for her!

7/16/05 - People are going to think it's crazy seeing another update for Junie already but I just wanted to add something and after that I promise you will hear no more from me except about my own fosters.  As you know Junie spent some time with us last week and when it was time for her to go my 3 year old was very sad. She really liked Junie and wanted her to stay. The real reason I wanted to add something is about Junie and the cat. In my opinion I think she would do fine in a home with cats. She paid no attention to ours just looking at her as she went by. Even when she was up and Tasha passed her outside Junie followed Marco to the fence and watched Tasha go over but she did not attempt to go after her. She seemed to have no desire to. I think if she wanted to she would have attempted when Tasha was standing close to her but she really couldn't be bothered. Also Junie would never be fast enough to chase a cat. So again my opinion of Junie in a kitty home after she spent 4 days here with ours is that she would be OK. Thanks I promise I'm done Carrie

7/15/05 - Here's a quick note with an update on Junie B. Her lump is GONE g-o-n-e gone. It must've been something caused by wrestling with the other dogs but when I dropped her at Carries last week I was going to show it to her and I couldn't find it! Now, don't think I was just missing it because it was the size of a golf ball and I felt all over her neck. Nuthin. Yay!!!! Now it's on to cherry eye surgery - we're going to call the vet on Monday and see about getting that scheduled. I can't wait to see that sweet face without those messy glands in her eyes. Bet she can't wait too. We are just loving having this girl here, she's very loving and very mellow. She trots through the house and sounds like a herd of elephants but we're good with that. We always know where she is. She's gotten very gentle with her mouth, no more nipping - but she'll gently take your hand between her teeth and hold it so you can't get away. What a doll baby this girl is - and so beautiful! I'm so tempted to keep her here with us but I know there's a home out there that will be special just for her.

7/10/05 - I know Junie B is not my foster but I just had to send in a write up about her. Katie and her family are away for a couple of days and asked us to dog sit for Junie. Well let me tell ya I thought I was going to be in for it with Marco coming back and volunteering to take Newport and of course we have Maddie.
All the dogs get along great which I think is amazing and Junie spotted the cat earlier today she
was about 3 feet away from her and Junie did not even get up. She just kind of looked at her.
Since she will be here for the next few days I'll keep an eye out to see how things go when Junie is
up and about and the cat comes in.
Now I know it is an age old saying that you should not judge a book by it's cover well this saying is so true. I realize Junie is a little dopey looking and she sounds like an elephant when she trots across the floor but her personality is outstanding. My mother met her last night and wanted to take her home. She is very docile and content. She slept all night downstairs on the dog bed even though everyone else was upstairs. I did not hear a peep from her. I know Junie has not even been here for 24 hours but my opinion of her so far is high. I think she will make an awesome companion. My daughter just loves her and she calls her my Junie B. She wants her to stay here so she can have lots of puppies in her house. She said she will miss her when she has to go back. Dont let her looks get in the way of making her part of your family I really dont think you'll regret it. Carrie

7/6/05 - Poor Junie is suffering from a lack of updates at her foster home. It's been almost a MONTH since I've written anything on her - time flies when it's hot out and you're in the air conditioning business I guess. Now if it were February you'd all have an earful! Lots of interesting, if not always good stuff, to write about Junie B.

We were back to the vet to have a lump in Junies neck checked by the doctor and he feels like it could be one of several things. Either an old injury where she ran up on a stick or something and a piece broke off in her neck that's been encapsulated or some other type of injury. It could also be a tumor but he thinks because she's so young that's not as likely as it would be with an older boxer. Junie needs to be anesthetized in order for them to take a look at it so when she's having surgery to correct her cherry eye the lump will be completely removed. No sense in biopsying it to find out it needs to come out and subject her to another surgery. In the meantime we're keeping an eye on it to make sure it doesn't change at all.

Also, Junies splayed feet are a congenital deformity, one front foot is more affected than the rest. The doctor says that when she's done growing it would probably be a good idea to have her feet surgically corrected. That means they go in, cut the bones, and reset them straight. This will give her years of normal locomotion. If the surgery is not done Junie B. will still get around just fine but she will probably be more prone to arthritis in her feet and all the resulting issues that go with that.

The good news is Junie is still a joy to have here. She eats like a champ and is mostly housebroken as long as she gets outside on a regular basis. She plays with the other dogs very nicely. Junie is very unsure about going outside on a leash and will need to get to obedience classes and out among lots of other people and animals in her new home so she doesn't become too shy.

We've also heard Miss Junie bark! And WHAT a bark! I was shocked! It's this big, deep booming woof. I couldn't figure out who it was at first. Really.

She's trying her best to jump up on us although she can't really do that with her legs the way they are, and that's fine. She's too big to jump! This past visit to the vet she was up to 49 pounds! Plenty heavy and no one I want planting their feet on me while I'm carrying anything.

Junie B. cleans her bowl like a champ these days and she recognizes her name and comes when called. We've just started working on sit - she doesn't get it at all but she will. She's so doofy. Just give her a little time.

This girl is needy needy needy but in a good way! Hopefully there is someone out there who's willing to be co-dependent with her! :-)

6/16/05 - Wow. What a turn around we've seen in this girl in the past couple of weeks! She's really turning into a fat happy pup here. She tears around the yard and the house with our dogs doing her best Chewbaca impression and carrying on with the best of them! We love this girl so much. She has not been having accidents in the house but she does still use her crate as a bathroom. As long as she gets out regularly its no problem at all and she's stayed dry and clean overnight but on days when she's crated all day she's not quite there yet. I really think she'd be happier with someone who wasn't leaving her alone so much anyway. But she's a happy happy girl either way. She just felt lousy when she came here and now she looks great and clearly feels much much better.
Junie B still needs surgery to correct her cherry eye - she had an appointment on Tuesday to see Dr. Cherry. (Ha! That's really his name too!) but her foster mom had a stomach bug so we missed it and need to reschedule.
Junies feet look a little funny and we're going to ask the doc about it but we do think it's from being crated SO much before she came to live here. We hope they'll correct themselves as she continues to receive good food and plenty of exercise.
If you've been looking for a boxer puppy you certainly couldn't go wrong with her - she's just amazing!

6/10/05 - I owe everyone an update on Junie B. (The B. stands for Beatrice, except she doesn't like Beatrice, she just likes B - and that's all. Anyone else reading those books?) Junie is doing better every day she's here. She's already put on weight and is up to 41 pounds, she's a little tentative about eating still and won't take treats but she does eat and is looking really good. Junie was at the vet this week. She's going to have surgery for her cherry eye in both eyes but once it's fixed it won't come back so that's' good news. She's still droopy here - she'll play a little with the other dogs and then flop down to rest. She doesn't play with me at all yet but will nibble on my husband to get his attention. It's usually the other way around - I'm the one who feeds them!
Junie B. is good in her crate, a little whiny at first but she does settle down quickly. Our biggest, and really only, problem is that she does go to the bathroom in the crate. I think the poor girl was confined to a crate so much that she's gotten over that instinct they have not to go where they sleep. We're encouraging her to try outside and the weathers been great for long stints in the backyard so I'm hoping that helps. She's still very nervous with people, she doesn't quite trust us yet, so we're taking our time with her and letting that build up before we ask anything of her. This girl is a diamond in the rough. She'll learn to be a boxer yet! (She whacked a fox terrier with her paw at the vets to get him to play, I can see where we're going to end up from here!)

6/2/05 - Junie B. came upstate to stay with us for a while this summer - she's like our Fresh Air Kid! Poor Junie has had a rough start, as you might be able to tell from her pictures. She's very underweight, has a horrible case of kennel cough (complete with snotty nose), cherry eye and appears to have been abused from the reactions we're seeing here from her. We're guessing she's spent most of her life in a crate too - her feet are very splayed and she doesn't have much muscle tone. She's so sweet though, she's already blooming here and I even saw her wag her little nub last night! It's been tucked under right from the start here so her first wag was a very big deal!

When Junie arrived she wouldn't leave her crate without someone crawling in to get her, she wouldn't go up or down stairs, she wouldn't eat, wouldn't'  drink - and only walked through the house crouched over. In fact a couple of times we thought we'd lost her because we couldn't find her! Instead what she'd done was find a small, sheltered corner and curled up there to be safe. It's so sad.

Now - just a few days later she's actually playing with the big dogs a little bit and is starting to happily greet the human members of the family. Especially my husband - she just loves him! As Junie gets her strength back I can just picture her tearing around the yard - glossy coat and all, right now that just takes a little imagination. She needs to gain a lot of weight and she'll have surgery while she's here to correct her cherry eye then she'll need a home who's ready to commit to a lifetime with her. She needs someone who'll be gentle with her but not let her get away with a lot of nonsense :-). AND someone who'll send me pictures of her as she grows because she's going to be the most beautiful dog I've ever seen I think! Plus she's got my heart, she's laying here now with her chin on my foot just grateful to be someplace off the street.

5/29/05 - The puppy from the transport list (that I thought would have to spend another week in the shelter) made it here this afternoon. We named her Junie B. after my daughters favorite series of books. She's very sweet and very nervous, and seems to not be feeling too well. She's a color I haven't seen before in a boxer - sort of a chocolate color, Susan and I decided almost like a choc. lab. Only she's brindled too - with a fawn color and something lighter. She's beautiful.

She and I hung out for quite a while in the backyard this evening and I wish I'd brought the digital camera out. She went nose to nose with everything - cutest was a dandelion. It was like she wasn't quite sure where the heck she was and what it all meant. She stuck to my side like glue but I caught her running a little bit if I got away from her.

She's going to need lots of time & patience for her real personality to appear but right now she's cuddled up in her crate with Tigger (thanks Gary!) and seems to feel somewhat safe here.
