Pertinent Information 5/16/06 -
Lacey is one big bundle of energy.
She love playing with her toys and most of all with Ghost. When they are
out in the backyard, it looks as if they are mortal enemies, but, they
are only "boxing". Lacey has decided she is daddy's little girl.
If my husband is sitting in he lounge chair, she crawls up into his lap
and falls asleep. She is still trying to play with our two cats.
To date, it hasn't happened, and probably will never happen. But,
she keeps trying. 12/5/05 - Lacey is a great dog. She loves to cuddle with us every chance she gets. She is having a ball with the 3" of snow we got this weekend. It seems like she never saw snow before. Lacey and Ghost have spent more time outside in the snow, than they have inside. When she comes back inside, she curls up on the couch with Ghost, resting her head on his rump. What a sight. 10/30/05
- Lacey is doing wonderfully. She has been very helpful with our foster
boy Ghost. She loves being 9/24/05
- Lacey has carved her nitch in our household. She and our Charly
are inseparable. If you see one, the other is right behind. This
past Thursday I had a startling wake-up. I was just waking up, I
stretched and turned on my side to get out of bed, but, as I turned
there was Lacey's head resting on the side of the bed just staring out
me. She looked at me like a little kid waiting for mommy to wake up. 8/24/05 - I can't believe it is a
month that we have had Lacey. She has settled into her life with us
without any problems. A few days ago, we completed putting up the fence
in out backyard. Lacey and our Charly went crazy running and jumping all
over the place. It seems like they constantly want to be outside. Lacey
loves the freedom of the fenced yard. I had Lacey to the vet this week,
because she seems to chew on her paws. The vet said not to worry it's
just an allergy. So, she said just to give her non-drowsy Benedryl and
she'll be fine. Well, so far it works. 8/8/05 - It's only been two weeks since we adopted Lacey/Zoe. She has settled in like she was born here. She is so lovable and clinging to me during the day. But, when my son and my husband gets home she just starts bouncing. When I go up to our bedroom at night to watch TV, she cuddles up next to me like a child. We have become so attached to her, you wouldn't think that she was so recently adopted. She has had no problems befriending our other dog or the cats. She probably know now that she is in her forever home. 7/29/05 - Lacey had her visit with
her new vet today. She passed with flying colors. But, she was not happy
having her temperature taken. The yeast infection in her ear is all
gone. The whole vet's office just had to stop and play with her. 7/26/05 - Lacey has settled in
quite rapidly. It is like she has been here forever. She adores my
husband and son. My son rolls around on the floor playing with her. She
keeps coming back for more. Lacey is eating great and loves to follow me
and my daughter around. Of course, it was surprising when I went to the
bathroom and the door came flying open. Is it possible to be embarrassed
in front of a dog? 7/25/05 - Hi everyone, A bittersweet morning here as we packed up Zoey's care package and sent her off w/ her new family. Sniff, sniff... my sweet mentor told me that letting go of the the first foster is the hardest. Zoey was as wonderful and sweet leaving as she was when she first arrived. She was eager to meet her new parents as she loves everybody. Zoey jumped in the car and didn't look back...I guess that's a blessing in it's self. Future updates will come from her new Mom. We look forward to seeing how's she's settling in. Thank you and God bless everyone who helped get this sweet girl to her forever home. 7/23/05 - Zoey has been a great girl while she's been on the mend this week. She's back to her adorable self with the exception of eating. Zoey had been a stray and came to us w/ an unbelievable appetite. It seemed like she was always eating. Since her "spay" she seems to have lost her appetite. She's been eating a normal meal only once a day. She snubs her nose at breakfast, may nibble a little during the day and then has a normal dinner. I may have missed judged her portion size because she was so hungry at first. I've been trying to tempt her w/ chopped up cheese mixed in her food....she picks out the cheese and leaves the rest. I think she has her favorites and may be some what of a picky eater if she thinks there may be a "yummier" treat later. She has been eating a med. size "greenie" in the afternoons. She loves them. Zoey has not been thrilled w/ the idea of me cutting her nails. I've tried twice she does not like her feet touched. She will need to have them cut soon. She's quite a talker...she grunts to express herself.. if you leave the room, when she wants the kids or the cat, even when she has to go out to "potty" once she has the routine down. Zoey will sit and shake before her meals. Zoey will be going to her forever home tomorrow. Her new family will be so blessed. She is a wonderful little girl as I've said a hundred times before. It's been a great experience for us to have had the opportunity to know her and love her. 7/19/05 - Just 4 days since Zoey's
spay and she's back to her wonderful self and then some. Zoey has been
playing all morning. She had her early morning walk and was happy to be
back out in the neighborhood. She is full of wiggles this morning and
feeling probably the best since she's been with us. She keeps coming up
and "mouthing" my hand to play some more. She's not eating normally
yet...I think it's because she got a taste of the "real stuff" the
meatballs that she's been getting twice a day to get her to take her
medicine. She would certainly prefer that to her kibble mixed w/ the
Alpo beef chunks in gravy. She could easily be spoiled and she's so
sweet it would be easy to do! She needs to put on a little more weight
her back bone is still showing but better than it was when she arrived.
Her new Mom & family will see to that. Zoey.......such a wonderful
girl...she has forever etched her place in my heart. 7/18/05 - Zoey is recovering
nicely from her spay. She was more perky this morning. She brought a
ball over for my son to play to fetch. She played a few moments inside
and needed to lay back down. This morning she was also rolling around on
her back a bit and jumped up to her favorite chair beside my
desk....another great sign...the wiggles are back!!!! Right now she's
laying on the floor beside me. She does not let you get too far out of
sight. Her incision looks good. She's a good girl..she only cleans it.
The area that was shaved must feel odd to her because she's licking that
a bit too. She's taking her pills much better now as they're hidden in
cooked ground beef meat /16/05 - We dropped Zoey off @ the Vet's yesterday for her appt. to be spayed. They weighed her & she had gained 2 pounds since her last visit just 9 days earlier. We counted the hours until we could go back & pick her up. Zoey is home now after being spayed. We picked her up late morning. She was glad to see us and rode home peacefully in the car. She did not want to get out of the car...she is such a light weight that I lifted her from the car then she saw the yard and familiar surroundings. She is now just laying down & resting on a blanket w/ her head on her teddy bear. She looks so sad....certainly not her perky self. Though she does wag her tail a bit when you talk to her. The Vet said that it will take 2-3 days until she's back to normal. She's not eating.....that's going to make giving her medicine a bit more of a challenge. They gave me huge capsules of Cephalexin to give her twice a day so she does not get an infection. I tried hiding one in cheese, in a chunk of her meat from her favorite food, and peanut butter. She is just not interested. I'll try again later today. She still has a bit of the yeast infection in her ears so I'll continue w/ the Animax for her ears & chest. Zoey is such a sweet and little girl that you can't help but feel over protective of her and want to make everything just right for her. I'll update again in a day or so when she starts getting back to being herself. 7/14/05 - Hi everyone, Zoey wanted
to check in and let you know that every thing is going well. She has had
more freedom to roam the house this week as she's no longer in heat.
She's curious to look around but comes back quickly. She likes to be w/
people. Zoey has tried very hard to make friends w/ our cat. Zoey is
very talkative w/ her boxer grunts and tried her best to convince the
cat to play. Our cat just looks @ her like she cannot be bothered. She
is not threatened by Zoey at all. Zoey and our boxer Macho have played
very well in the yard and have been good taking walks together. Zoey
loves to give him kisses on his face. First thing Macho does every
morning is to run and check on Zoey. If he was outside & Zoey wasn't he
runs to see if she's still there when he comes in. Zoey does not get on
the furniture..with the exception of one old over stuffed chair beside
my desk. I don't think she really prefers the chair as she spent equally
as much time laying on the treadmill. I think that she just wanted to be
near me when I was @ the desk. I did the ear & jowl tug w/ absolutely no
reaction at all. Zoey does not mind her ears touched in general but I've
been putting in the ear medicine twice a day so when she sees that
coming she puts her ears down for a second and then lets me put it in w/
no problem. The spot on her chest was looking good using
the cream...then she started scratching it again. I think it would heal
much better w/ her collar off. So we'll try that over the next couple of
days while she's recovering from her spay-surgery and won't be going in
and out so often. Zoey is a very sweet girl. She has adapted so well.
Her new family will just love her and be amazed at how quickly she
becomes part of the family. Zoey will need a lot of assurance at
first...she used to look @ us w/ her ears down and big doe eyes
searching for acceptance...it was only a little while until the ears
went up the eyes started to shine and the wiggles began. She freely
gives little kisses she loves to lean and likes to be hugged and
cuddled. Zoey does like her crate. She has slept in it @ night since
she's been here because she was in heat and now she's going to be spayed
and will need to have little activity. She goes in & out of it freely
during the day if she wants to nap. It's her peaceful place in our daily
hub-bub of activity. I will update again after her surgery. 7/8/05 - Zoey is having a great
time here in her foster home. She had a good visit at the Vet's this
week. All test results were negative. Other than a bit of a yeast
infection in her ear and a minor skin irritation on her chest Zoey is in
perfect health. We will be applying an antibiotic ointment to her ears &
skin twice a day for the next 10 days. She has an appointment to be
spayed next week. 7/4/05 - Happy 4th of July!!! We
hope that you're having a nice holiday.
