9/26/05 - Lucy has been adopted by her foster family 9/2/05 - Lucy is pending adoption by her foster family who have just fallen head over heels in love with her. They are well aware of her physical problems and are committed to giving her a wonderful like. 8/31/05 - We had a great post surgery great check- up. Her wound is healing well and we have some stretching exercises with her leg that need to be done a few times a day to keep her femur from fusing to her hip. We had a surprise when we got home. She was pooping round worms. So back to the vet for some medicine. She's doing very well, it's amazing how fast dogs bounce back after major surgery. 8/24/05 - I just picked up Lucy from her hip surgery where they cut off the head of her femur and fused it to her hip. Surprisingly enough she came walked out of the vet's office on her own just as happy as could be with a great big cone around her neck. She getting used to figuring out how to maneuver with that thing on. It's hard not to chuckle sometimes. She was excited to come home & see Yuki. To keep her from over doing it we need to keep Lucy on a leash for a week, and give meds for the pain & an antibiotic. We take her back on Saturday to have the pain patch removed. Later, she has two therapy sessions and her stitches removed. She has an appetite but you can tell she's in pain. Her hip is swollen but she's resting now. She is quite the resilient little girl. I'll put some pictures up soon. I'll keep you update with her progress. 8/7/05 - Hello Everyone, Lucy has done really well these past few days. She's been to the Ossining Dog park & made many new friends. Today we had a Boxer meet Up and had a wonderful time. Lots of folks wanted to take her home, I told them to contact the rescue. We had a visit to the vet this Friday. The x-rays hadn't arrived yet so he wanted to wait to take another set until he had a chance to speak with Gary. The vet's next surgery is scheduled for the 16th, the plan is to get all the preliminary work in time for that. Then she have me 24/7 to help her while she heals before school begins again. Lucy has a great disposition, very gentle but enjoys playing. Below are a picture from the dog park and a nap after the dog park. You can she & Yuki are becoming the best of friends. 8/2/05 - Lucy here, I'm writing to tell you all thank you so much for rescuing me. I really like my foster home. I have been very well behaved and I'm really catching on to this house training thing. I love to cuddle and play with my new friend Yuki and the humans who live here. I went to my first band concert and met so many new people and I sat quietly on the grass while the music played. I can't wait to find my permanent home, I have so much love to give. I am a very sweet girl won't you take me home? 7/28/05 - Here's day two update on Lucy. She adapting well to her new home. She & Yuki are playing well together. She has helped herself to chew toys and has a hearty appetite. That it a good sign, she needs some more meat on those bones. She enjoys attention, has no problems having toys or food being taken from her. Very friendly. Now we'll work on being nice and tired out so we can all get a few more consecutive hours of sleep :) She quieted right down after a trip outside and being placed in the crate at two thirty this a.m. She was awake and ready to investigate, I told her it will have to wait until morning. She has puppy teeth and enjoys the chew toys, which is greatly appreciated. She is good around the cats. Doesn't seem to interest her all that much. Until next time! 7/27/05 - Well, the Boxer Mix,
Lucy has arrived in her new home after a quiet car ride from CT. They
had been calling her Lucy and she responds to her name. It seems to fit
her. Carrie was wonderful and drove her to Greenwich to meet me, she
came from the Vet clinic where she had been staying while recovering
from Parvo. The Vet says she's clear and she's underweight. With in the
first five minutes she went #1 & #2 out in the yard and then finished a
bowl of food. I'd say she's made herself at home. She's been exploring
all the sights and smells. She found herself a bone to chew and a toy to
play with. Her disposition appears to be pretty happy. 7/16/05 - There are a boxer mix
puppy at Orange Veterinary Hospital. We think she is between 4-5 months
old. She was picked up by animal control and brought there a week ago.
She has a fractured pelvis, broken right leg, and her right hip may also
require surgery in the future. Her leg, though, is healing on it's own
and we no longer think she needs surgery on it. She has a limp but is
moving around very well. She is a happy go lucky puppy with a sparkling
personality. She is very affectionate and loves to be with people. Her
owners have not come forward and the shelter is at it's full capacity,
so I desperately need to find her a home or rescue organization that is
willing to take her in.
