8/28/05 - I continue to be
awestruck at how incredible this dog is.....such a wonderful
personality! We spent the day meeting new people yesterday and he was a
complete gentleman all day long. The kids fell head over heels in love
with him and strangers were literally stopping us on the street to pet
him and comment on how handsome he is. Mac is also very smart (when he
wants to be)......I keep a tin garbage can filled with "cookies and
treats" on the floor next the crates. None of my dogs have ever figured
out how to open it........... until Mac arrived (smile). It took him all
of 30 seconds to walk over, take the top off and put his head in the can
for all the cookies he could eat! Guess I'll be moving the location of
those cookies today!!
We discovered that Mac likes to play with shoes.......tennis shoes to be
specific.......tennis shoes that are already on someone's feet! It is
hilarious and a sight to be seen! He is also crazy for vacuum cleaners -
he chases and attacks it every time it moves. If I could just get him to
actually use the darn thing I could start a new business!
I'll send over some pictures of the "kids" at play later today. I can't
thank you all enough for matching me up with this special guy. We told
everyone that we spoke with yesterday about how great BAR is and
referred several people who had expressed interest to the website. I
can't imagine getting a dog through traditional channels now when there
are so many many wonderful "kids" like Mac out there who need a new
home! Thanks again!!
8/26/05 - Just wanted to send a
note to let you all know that we arrived home and met my other "kids"
all safe and sound.......Nigel (the male bulldog) is still giving Mac a
bit of a hard time, but all in all the introductions have been very
successful. By tomorrow they should all be romping around the backyard
together having a blast.
I can't say enough about this baby dog......he is stunning and such a
sweetheart! I'll update you all with pictures and more on Sunday - but
suffice it to say that I know already this is a perfect match. This
boxer has found his forever home (smile).....
An interesting note.......it might sound a little silly, but.......I
just realized today when I read the contract that Mac was surrendered to
BAR on 8/11/05........that happens to be the same day that I lost my
boxer (Brutus) to cancer.........it must be a sign........
Thanks to all, Marilyn
8/25/05 - Mac is
pending adoption
8/17/05 - Mac is very easy-going;
lovable. He took to my children, ages 11, 5 and 19 months, right away.
We learned the first day that he really doesn't like the crate. He cried
the first night, but has not since.
Mac is a puppy at heart. He wants to be pet all the time and wants to
play like a little puppy even though he weighs over 70 lbs.! He and our
female boxer get along really, really well. They play fight, and run
side by side in our yard. Mac even tried to get a little romance going,
but Piper would not have any of it.
Mac loves getting hugs and belly rubs. If he thinks he is about to get a
belly rub, he practically throws himself on the floor to give you better
access! Mac loves attention. If we are petting and playing with Piper
our female boxer, he sticks his big head between you and her and wants
whatever she is getting.
My youngest, 19 months, showed Mac who the boss was from practically day
one. He commands him to come and tries to put him in the crate. He
pushes him out of his way and Mac just lets him. He also tried tugging
at his ears. They are fascinating to my son since our boxer has natural
ears.
Mac has shown absolutely no aggression while eating or drinking. One of
the things we are trying to break our youngest out of is sticking his
hand in the water bowls but Mac doesn't mind at all. If my son gets in
the way he just steps back and waits and then continues to drink or eat.
Piper and Mac share their bowls whether it is food or water. No problem
there.
He had no problem with the noise level in our home as we have three
children and they can be quite loud.
Mac does love to chew though, (not furniture or anything like that) so
he is going need a lot of chew toys. He is a digger, but I think a lot
of that has to do with our dog teaching him that. He barks when he wants
to come in from outside, but never when people walk by or come over. He
does try to escape whenever we open the front door, but I think that is
just to explore his surroundings.
All in all, Mac is a wonderful, but he has just not taken to my husband.
He doesn't really listen to my husband and tends to listen to me more.
The first few days that Mac was here, he fought having to go into the
crate whenever my husband tried, but I had no problem. I think it is
just a personality issue between my husband and Mac. He has never tried
to bite my husband or anything and never growled, just pretty much
ignores him.
8/11/05 - Mac is very lovable and
wants to be a puppy playing around despite his size. But for some
reason he has not taken to my husband. I haven't had any problem with
him. He gets along with our dog Piper, though they can get a little
rough while playing and he is good with my kids. My littlest one is
comfortable enough around him to just push him out of his way and Mac
does not seem to mind. We took him over to my in laws over the weekend
and he played with their little poodle, who tried to assert his
territory but gave up after a while. All in all he is a great dog!
Unfortunately, my husband is not 100% comfortable with him. So we will
keep Mac for as long as it takes as a foster with the goal to find him a
permanent home.
