8/14/05 - ZENA HAS SHONE A REMARKABLE TURN AROUND IN THE LAST FEW DAYS--SHE HAS BEEN EATING VERY WELL, SHE TAKES HER FOOD FROM THE BOWL, DROPS IT ON THE FLOOR, THEN EATS (good thing our floors are clean)--SHE (WE)IS HAVING A BALL.  OUTSIDE THROWING HER BALL, THEN BRINGING IT BACK, AND RUNNING AROUND TILL YOU THROW IT AGAIN---SHE LIKES HER NIGHTLY WALK AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD--ITS MY EXERCISE, BUT I DON'T TELL HER THAT---I TELL HER IT'S TIME FOR BED AND SHE FLIES TO THE BEDROOM BEFORE WE GET THERE. WE HAD OUR GRANDKIDS OVER LAST NIGHT AND THEY HAD A BALL WITH HER--SHE JUST LAID THERE AND THEY USED HER FOR A CUSHION--SO I'M PLEASED TO SAY THAT SHE IS DOING VERY WELL

8/3/05 - Zena went home this morning to the perfect forever home for her (although it sounds like she's feeling a little homesick & missing Chloe right now).  Her dad has already sent me an update (below)!  Zena was so confused today--i felt so sorry for her-----She is trying to find her away around--every is so strange to her-we let her run around the back yard (it's all enclosed)---she drank a little water, but has not touched any of her food yet--i think she misses Chloe-i wish he was here for a few hrs for her---She follows Judy around all day-took a nap in Judy's bed for a few hrs with her I'll be taking her for a shot walk around the block latter on when the sun goes down----I know it will take a while for her to get use to us and her new surroundings----I''ll keep you up to date -THANKS FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE FOR HER------F&J

7/17/05 - Zena is pending adoption

7/2/05 - Zena is a bundle of energy! She's constantly running, leaping, jumping & trying to initiate play with us (maybe she would be a good agility dog with all her enthusiasm? Needless to say, my husband & I are still looking for the "off" button! I usually get up around five a.m. & let me tell you there is no sleeping in with Zena in the house! On several occasions she's tried to get me up even earlier; usually I tell her in a firm voice to go lay down, eventually she'll give up & go back to sleep. We've changed the status of Zena as to not being good with other dogs; it is because she is very assertive with other dogs & quick to challenge them. If our dogs get excited Zena will also get excited and go after them. I think most of it has to do with her high energy level (and our dogs are not willing to put up with this!) So we will need to be careful where she is placed to make sure she gets along with any other dogs in the household. Zena is a good dog and loves to be with other dogs and does extremely well with our fox terrier/hound mix Chloe who is extremely submissive. Chloe & Zena adore each other & seem to play nonstop! If you have a dog that is not in the least bit assertive & extremely submissive it would probably work out wonderful. Zena would also do extremely well in a household without another dog - if she gets lots of lovin' and attention (she loves to be constantly with someone) and is exercised lots daily to get rid of all that energy she has. If your home sounds like either of these please make sure to get your app in and let us know that Zena is the girl for you!

6/24/05 - Zena continues to have a great time here. She loves playing with Chloe and taking our shoes! We take our shoes off in the garage and the dogs go through the garage to go out thru the doggie door to their pen. We now have to go out & retrieve our shoes on a daily basis. There were six different shoes out on the doggie deck last night. It seems like every time Zena goes out she takes a shoe with her! She doesn't seem to do anything destructive with them, guess she just thinks they should be outside! When she isn't carrying a shoe, it seems like she always has a toy. We bought a dog toy that is shaped like a jack & she absolutely loves to play with it, she loves to throw it & watch it bounce & chase after it! Sometimes she gets lucky and we will play fetch with her with it.

6/12/05 - Zena absolutely loves to play with doggy toys. Even though she's nearly four (in August) she still loves to chew. Fortunately we have lots of toys for her (although I did catch her with one of my slippers one morning, she didn't do any damage to it!) She also likes to play an occasional game of fetch. Zena is one of those boxers that will always be young in spirit and always is a happy girl wanting to play.

6/4/05 - Zena continues to thrive here. She is constantly in "play" mode! My husband & I joke about finding her "off" switch! She is totally delightful and is always happy (except maybe the first couple of minutes we put her in her crate). At night she sleeps in the doggy bed on the floor in our bedroom. We just give her a toy & tell her down & she usually chews on her toy until she decides to go to sleep. Zena will need some work in the obedience department with commands such as "come" & "stay" but she is so eager to please it shouldn't take much effort. Honestly, we didn't think that we'd have time enough to train her and that she'd be at her forever home by now. She is embraces everything that is so wonderful about her breed.

5/30/05 - Zena now plays nonstop with Chloe (at least it seems that way!) I'm so glad that it's nice outside so when they get too out of control we can kick them outside & they have even more space to chase each other around! She's figured out how to play tug of war with Chloe. Zena has also found a little round ball with lots of bounce that she loves to play with. She'll pick it up & drop it & then leap to get it as it bounces away. When she's all tired out she looks for a sunny spot under a window to take a nap. Zena is a typical boxer girl & has got lots of spunk & love to give her new home.

5/18/05 - Zena has settled in nicely here. She is now confident enough that she will go outside by herself or unglue herself from us enough to go lay on the doggie bed across the room. She loves to zip around in the pen and play chase with Chloe (actually she loves to do that inside as well)! Zena also loves to play with tennis balls. Loves to jump in the air to try and catch them and chase them all about. She really doesn't need anyone to entertain her - she perfectly capable of entertaining herself & anyone watching! And when she's all tired out she's happy to settle down in a sunny spot by the window.

5/12/05 - Zena absolutely loves to play! She is very vocal, growls, barks, and gabs away - she does it all & has a blast. Our fox terrier, Chloe has finally gotten brave enough to play with her even with totally different play styles. It's entertaining to watch. Chloe tries to chase her & nip at her legs (typical terrier style) while Zena bounces up & down & tries to pounce on her and box. Being a terrier, Chloe doesn't get why Zena keeps trying to smack her in the face!

When she's not trying to play, Zena is very sweet and loves to be by our side no matter where we are. While the other dogs would rather be outside or laying on the couch we can always count on Zena being right next to us!

5/7/05 - Zena is recovering well from her spaying surgery. She is our velcro dog and seems to follow us everywhere. We had our six year old niece spend the night & Zena was absolutely wonderful with her - she was very gentle and even did down when Sandy gave the command. Zena continues to show signs that she wants to be the leader of the pack here & while she is always playful in nature, she doesn't hesitate to challenge any of our dogs. We put a quick stop to it & she definitely goes right back into play mode!! If you have a relaxed dog that doesn't want to be the boss and wants to play - Zena could be just the dog for you!

4/30/05 - Zena is probably the happiest boxer I think I've ever met. We found out this week that Zena is only almost 4 years old, not 5! That explains why she still has so much energy! She is full of pep & cheer & is constantly doing a kidney bean dance & trying to get our other dogs to play with her. They are not always up for it & often quick to rebuff her (her rough play style is a little much for our older dogs). Occasionally, one party will challenge the other to a duel but as soon as they start we say "enough" & it is over as soon as it started; none of them seem to hold any grudges, and Zena always seems to go back to trying to get them to play with her! She would do well in a home with another dog that is up for playing (Rough & tough boxer style of course!) She also loves to box with us - but she is exceptionally gentle with us & is careful not to bite or scratch us.
Fortunately as far as housebreaking - she has proven very reliable! Zena somehow managed to get out of the crate while we were out today & there weren't any accidents and she was patiently waiting at the baby gate for us to let her out.
Get your apps in soon, this girl is everything a boxer should be! She is going to be fixed next week & hopefully will be on to her forever home soon after that!

4/25/05 - Zena is proving to fit the long lived boxer image with her antics, enthusiasm & love of life. She showed us how smart she is by picking up the doggy door right away - we showed her how to get out once & how to get back in once & she's got it mastered! We were warned that she wasn't housebroken so we've been keeping a close eye on her & so far she's done well & we haven't had any problems. We crate her when we can't watch her closely.

Zena loves to constantly be next to someone; likes to lay by your feet or on top of you... just as long as she is touching someone she is happy! She also loves to cuddle with the other dogs in the house - sometimes they are rather reluctant, but Zena always seems to win them over with her enthusiasm!

4/23/05 - Zena has arrived! She's a typical happy boxer girl with lots of kidney bean dances for all. She loves other dogs and is having a wonderful time initiating play with our dogs. For 4 1/2 she is full of energy but does settle down quickly. I'll update her page just as soon as we learn more about her.
