8/5/06 - Well, Jasper is off to his new home.  It was actually really easy for me because Jasper seemed to know that Brian was his new daddy.  Jasper went right to him and wiggled and then leaned on him like our boxers do, it was so sweet.  Jasper seemed very comfortable and happy.  Not to mention Brian, he was smiling the whole time, I think he is very happy.  It will be a little calmer around here without the puppy aspect.  Tristen and Kalea (my 3 and 5 year old) were a little sad, but I think they understood, I have been explaining to them that Jasper was leaving today to try and make it easier.  They kept hugging and kissing Jasper good-bye, too sweet.  I know that Jasper will be happy in his new forever home. :-)

7/28/06 - Jasper is pending adoption

7/24/06 - Well we had a wonderful day at PETCO Saturday.  Jasper was the perfect gentleman and of course
everyone fell in love with him at first sight!  We were there from 10-2 and when we got home he took a good long nap, it was a long day for the sweet guy.
He was wonderful with everyone that approached him.  It did not matter if they were young children or elderly people, he was great with everyone.  There was even a 10 week old baby that he liked.
The baby was in the stroller and Jasper just sat my it sniffing the baby's hand, too cute and sweet for words.  People were asking about him and wanting to take him home all day.  :-)  I did not blame them, he is a great dog!
I just wanted to update and let everyone know how good the day was for me and Jasper.  He just continues to be a wonderfully sweet, happy, and smart guy.

7/21/06 - Jasper is just settling in very nicely here.  I really have no negatives to report about this sweet guy.  His only "negative" (but to me it is just boxer), is that he barks if I put him in the crate and he knows that I am still in the house.  He is typical boxer, he wants to be with his people, not in the darn crate! :-)  When he is put into his crate and we leave the house, he settles down and he is quiet.  I have checked on him to make sure that he quiets down and he is always laying down in the crate when we get home.
We will be a PETCO in Elmira, New York tomorrow from 10-2.  We will see how Jasper does with all of the different people and commotion.  I really do not think there will be any bit of a problem.  Jasper is just too sweet and easy going.
The medicine regime is almost done and everything has cleared up nicely.  His fur is growing back in is small bald patches and his infection in his chin has cleared up and looks great!  I feel like I am repeating myself on all of the updates, but Jasper truly is a great boxer!  He has no issues and just loves to play, cuddle, and just be a crazy boxer that we all love!  Trust me, the family that adopts Jasper will be very lucky to get such a great boxer.Jasper and I will update tomorrow after our big day at PETCO.

7/15/06 - Well, we just discovered a neat trick that Jasper can do.  He will now sit and shake.  You tell
him shake and he puts his little paw out, it is so cute!  He just keeps proving everyday that is is
very cute and smart.
Everything else is going great with Jasper, there are really NO problems or negatives with this
sweet, sweet guy!  We are going to PETCO in Big Flats, New York next Saturday to let people know
about BAR and rescue in general.  I am sure that Jasper will win over MANY hearts there.  We will
update again soon.

7/13/06 - Hello again from this sweet guy.  Jasper is doing just great here.  He has settled in to our routine here at the house, with the kids and the other dogs.  He has been accepted as one of the pack and he is able to play and cuddle with the other dogs.  Even Flame, my senior husky, does not seem to mind Jasper.  He is still doing very well with learning some training.  He is starting to know sit, come, and do you want to go potty?  He has had no accidents in the house.  He will pace and do his little puppy bark to let you know that it is time to go out.
Everything is going very well with his medicine.  The antibiotics have really cleared up is infection on his chin.  The ivermectin is working and he is starting to grow hair in his little bald spots.  The medicine giving is very easy.  He takes the liquid and the pill very easily, he does not fight or get upset about it, he just takes it and goes on with whatever he was doing.
I can not say enough good things about this sweet little guy.  He is a typical boxer.  He loves to play, but he loves to cuddle too.  He behaves very well and is quite calm for an 8 month old boxer.  He would be an easy adjustment to any house and family.  Just give him toys or other dogs to play with and lots of love and cuddles and Jasper is a happy guy.  Jasper is just a wonderful, wonderful dog and any family would be very, very lucky to adopt this great guy.

7/8/06 - Well, Jasper had his first vet visit with me yesterday.  Everything was ok, heartworm negative and
fecal clear.  That is good news.  The doctor also did a scraping on his "puppy" mange.  She did
not see anything with the scraping, which is good, but we are still treating with Ivermectin for the
bald spots.
Just some information that the doctor gave me about this mange...first, it is NOT contagious to
anybody, furry or skin. :-)  It is caused by a mite that ALL dogs carry; however, some young dogs
just do not have the immune system yet to fight them and so they lose hair in places because of
this.  Jasper will probably have episodes with this until he is around two years old when his immune
system is fully developed.  This is NOT a big deal though, just a scraping and treating with the
oral liquid Ivermectin.
The doctor also put him on Cephalexin for an infection on his chin related to the mange and it not
being treated in the past.  This is just pills three times a day.  Jasper will need a check up in
1 month to check everything and to probably continue with the Cephalexin, the doctor likes to keep
him on it for at least a month if not longer.  This is because the infection seems pretty deep and
she wants to get it all.  So...if you are the lucky family to adopt Jasper he will need a check up
and some more meds.
OK...well we now know that Jasper is good with older children now.  There were two different
children there during our visit both between 8 and 12 and Japser loved them and they loved Jasper.  They
both played with him, petted him, and said how cute he was (which he is) :-)  Japer just couldn't
get enough of them.
The vet staff loved him to death too!  They all said what a great dog he was and how sweet he is
and soooo cute.  He was the perfect gentleman during his exam and tests.
In conclusion, Jasper continues to be the best dog!  He is learning more everyday and just
continues to be adorable and sweet.  Hurry and adopt this guy before it is too late, he will be an awesome
addition to any family!

7/6/06 - Hello again from our sweet little guy Jasper.  All I can say is what a sweetie!  Jasper is the
best guy and we just love him to pieces.  He has settled in very nicely here at our home.  He has no
issues with the kids or with the other dogs and he just loves to play and be where you are to
cuddle or sit close to you.
Jasper is still learning what are kid toys and what are doggie toys.  So hard, so many of those
kids toys are so much fun!  However, he is learning and a stern no and drop it works.  He stops
where he is and drops it.  He is also beginning to be much more gentle with the kids too.  He does nip
as much and he is learning not to jump as hard etc.
Jasper has also settled in nicely with the other dogs.  As I said before, he loves to romp and
play with our boxer and would do that non stop if we would let him.  He really has no issues with any
of the dogs.  Our shar-pei is starting to come around to him and play with him too.  He also has
learned his boundaries.  Are husky is 12 years old and does not want to romp and play.  Flame let
Jasper know this and Jasper has learned to leave Flame alone.  So, he is very smart and learns
quickly.
I guess all I want to say is that Jasper is pretty perfect all around.  He is still a puppy and
needs to learn some things, but he is very smart and a quick learner.  Right now he is cuddled up on
the couch next to my 2 year old, and it is to sweet and cute for words.  Jasper would make a great
addition to any family.  He is still a puppy and has all that puppy energy, but he learns quickly
and he is easy to teach new things.  Any family would be very lucky to have such a well behaved
and sweet guy.  We will update again soon.

7/3/06 - Hello from Corning, NY and Jasper.  Well, there was some speculation about his age during his
transport, but I can assure everyone that he is most certainly 9 months old and still a puppy.  Jasper
is such a sweet, sweet dog.  You can tell that he just has a really good soul and spirit.  He has
been just wonderful with my two kids (they are ages 2 & 4) and he loves to follow them around and
play with them.  We are working on his little puppy nips however.  Anyone that has ever had a
puppy know what I mean.  He just gets playing so hard and having so much fun, that he sometimes grabs
onto their clothes.  He is getting much better at this already.
The doggie introductions went well too.  Jasper is a submissive dog, so my dominant husky and shar-pei do not have a problem with him.  He absolutely loves Bowser (my boxer) and Bowser loves him.  I have to separate them just so they will stop playing and boxing together and drink some water and rest.  I think Jasper would do fine in a house with or without other dogs.  He loves to play with Bowser, but he is very good at entertaining himself with the doggie toys too.  I think he would love kids to run with, but again he is pretty happy just having people around him.  He follows me everywhere, if he is sleeping I sometimes do not get up just so he will stay asleep and not follow me, too funny.
Jasper seemed to be unfamiliar with everything.  Even common sounds seemed to startle him; however, he is not so jumpy now.  I think the noise of our house is becoming natural and common to him, and trust me, we do not have a quiet house. :-)
Jasper loves the backyard!  He just seems to enjoy walking around and sniffing everything.  He was out back this morning by himself and we have a large blue ball for them to play with.  Well, Jasper approached it very slowly, circled it very slowly, and then began to paw at it.  The ball moved when he pawed at it so he jumped back, moved in pawed again and then started barking and talking to it.
He did this about 5 times and then walked away with his head and nubby tail held high like, 'there, I just showed that ball who is boss.'  It was so funny, I was cracking up.
Basically, I can not say enough about Jasper.  He is a wonderful dog.  He is very sweet and really
quite calm for an 8 month old.  He loves to cuddle and play.  I know that Jasper would make a
wonderful companion for a very lucky family out there.

7/2/06 - From Jasper's Transporter, Jack - Jasper was the perfect gentlemen the entire way. Sat in the front seat of the car next to me and put his head on my lap and went to sleep. He is definitely going to make a family a wonderful companion. He has the cutest face and great personality. Met Jeff in Hancock not too far behind schedule and hopefully by now he is not too far from his final destination. Good luck Jasper...you are in good hands.
