8/07- Athena has been adopted

7/25/07 - Athena is pending adoption

5/28/07 - Athena's new mom had a stroke right at the time Athena arrived so she has not been able to spend the time and energy with her that she needs.  She is not recovering as quickly from the stoke as she had hoped to and for that reason they will not be adopting Athena so she is now available to adopt.  Athena is estimated to be about 10 months old and still a puppy, not fully housetrained.  They will update very soon.

3/30/07 - WE HAVE HAD A FEW GLITCHES ALONG THE WAY HERE....I suffered a migraine related stroke right before she got dropped off, so it took me awhile to really observe her condition. (She was dripping blood from surgery.) \We went to the vet two days ago, she needs a Lepto and heartworm meds. She is younger than they thought, an untrained puppy. So we are using the crate a lot to help her get trained. Soon it will be time to set up the invisible fence and train them to it.  Her doggie manners are still terrible. She is very cute and strong. I am doing my best to give walks but some training will just have to wait until I get better! Soon, I hope. She may also have had a litter of puppies, even though she is so young. I think this is a dog that's going to need a bit more time for basic training but should make someone a great athletic little companion.

3/10/07 - Athena is sooo cute, and tiny. You can feel all of her spine and ribs. It's a challenge to feed her a lot while trying to help Hercules trim down. I hope adding vanilla yogurt will help her gain weight.
This morning I noticed she still has the bloody discharge you had written about, I think the cough probably opens old wounds and makes them ooze.. Kurt bought her a 12 pack of diapers, but her hips are so skinny- we are using masking tape to keep them on! I am giving her a small dose of Robitussin DM every time she coughs a lot (2X so far).
Except for when she first got here there's been no peeing in the house. I am using my sixth sense since she doesn't really ask us yet. We put up all toys and just got a few down, so far no problems with aggression.
Overall she probably needs some time to rest and finish recovering, which she should get here no problem. I am still having migraines and may need to see a neurologist etc. this week. I failed my field of vision test Friday...but I can't wait to see her personality come out even more as she gets healthier. I love the shape of her muzzle. I keep wanting to call her Meesha, and Kurt has been calling her Sylvia, which I don't really like, and my daughter says we should call her Athena since she seems to answer to that. I didn't mean to go on and on. Athena looks like a lot of fun. I just hope we can get her A-OK again soon!

2/27/07 - I visited Athena last night at the shelter. She was a bit nervous, and was still recovering from her surgery. I took her out of her crate, and took some pictures of her. I noticed a few spots of blood were still dripping from her, this a result of her surgery.
She allowed me to handle her, but you cold tell from her eyes and the position of her ears that she was nervous. No undesirable behavior from her, just nervous.  She is a small girl, but very well put together. Solid. Needs a few lbs, but not much. Nice "show cut" tail. Because of her condition, I did not try to introduce her to other dogs, although we walked past the cat cages and she did not pay any attention. Again, this does not mean anything, and no conclusions can really be drawn from that.
I was sad that I just could not take her with me, but I am overloaded with dogs right now, and just could not bring her home.  So we still need a place for her to hang out for a week or so. Again we will give you anything you need to put this girl up as a temporary boarder in your home, and give you all the support you need.
Please email me if interested, at liboxerboy@optonline.net and we will make arrangements to transport her as close to you as possible. If you are not totally sure it would work in your home and want to discuss your particular situation, please email me so we could discuss. It's worth the question, no?

2/26/07 - We have a 2 yr old VERY sweet boxer girl who just had surgery for a prolapse uterus...and she needs a place to just convalesce for a week or so,  and then she will be off to her foster home.  Can you help her? BAR will provide EVERYTHING you need for her stay, crate, food, meds, and vet care if needed.
You just give her a place to hang and relax. Please email me ASAP if you can do this at liboxerboy@optonline.net

They are asking us to take her asap....look at that face, how can you say "no"
