6/27/07 - After solving Brandy's medical problems she is pending adoption with her FTA family.

4/19/07 - Brandy is on a new med (Duramaxx - I think it's called)....  but she continues to favor her hind leg.  Unfortunately, I think x-rays are in her near future.  Other than that, Brandy is doing quite well.  She had one accident in the house last week....but accidents happen.  I've continued to take her to Doggy Day Care once a week, and she's fine with the other dogs - no issues.  In fact, the owner said she is even somewhat protective of a few of the smaller dogs, and if she feels another dog is playing too rough, she will lay down in front of the smaller dog to protect it and 'give it a break.'    I also asked her about how she feels she would do with the 'canine good citizen' training.  She listed some of the criterion......and said she certainly has a good temperament, but would obviously need training in some areas.  I'm hoping to get the leg issue behind us .....so we can move forward with the adoption.  I've really become attached to her, as she has such a sweet personality.

3/19/07 - Brandy continues to make strides, although there were few things to work on, as she was already a very well-rounded dog.  To cover a few general topics, Brandy has only had one accident in the house since her arrival.  I leave her while I'm at work each day and she has never been destructive or even appeared to get into any mischief. She spent a day at doggy-day care, and the trainer said she was slowly introduced to "the group" and did quite well.  She said that Brandy does appear to gravitate toward smaller dogs to play with.  We continue to work on commands:  sit and stay she will do with both verbal commands and hand signals.  We have also been working on my own variation of lay down (Hit The Deck), but will usually only do this when a treat is involved.   Brandy knows to sit and be calm before being fed, and when getting her leash on before a walk.  She has met neighborhood kids withno issues and loves the attention.  As for grooming, she stood in the tub nicely for a recent bath, she loves getting brushed, and tonight is "clip the toenails" night (we'll see how that goes)!!  Brandy is getting a little more vocal with barking, but still quite limited.  Finally, on leash, Brandy has made a lot of improvements.  She will still pull occasionally, but with a quick verbal prompt and a leash correction, she is fine.   She has shown improvement with stopping when I stop, and will now usually stop and sit on her own when I stop walking.  This is a big improvement for her, as I could never get her to sit while on a walk (and it wasn't because the pavement was cold, because we tried when it was warm out as well....nothing seemed to work).   She appears to catch on to things quickly, but you can tell she has some stubbornness in her !

3/9/07 - Brandy continues to do well in her new home.  Anybody that has met her so far, loves her to death.  I gave her time to become comfortable with me and her surroundings, and now we have been working on commands like, sit, stay, down, etc.  She's doing quite well.  She will stay for anything UNLESS I throw it.  About two gallops into the chase she 'realizes' she was supposed to stay.....and kind of pauses and looks back at me.  Sometimes she comes back and sometimes she doesn't !!  Funny to watch.   She is doing very well with being calm before going outside, or before she is fed.  She just sits and waits patiently, and most times does it on her own w/out having to be asked.  She's definitely a smart girl.   She is doing better on lead, but due to some limping issues we haven't been taking very long walks.   She has met my friend's Shepard mix, and they got along very well.  Being that he's still young (1 yr) he is relentless w/always wanting to play and not always displaying the best manners, and Brandy has let him know her limits.

2/20/07 - Brandy endured a long trip from Long Island to Buffalo and I understand she did well in each of the legs of the trip.  Thank you to everybody who helped.   I think she went from car-to-car so much that when she first arrived at her Foster Home, each time she went outside to toilet, she ran immediately to the car !Apparently though, she LOVES car rides and bounds to the car every chance she gets.  Behaviorally, Brandy is an angel.  She has play sessions which she enjoys, however she is just as content cuddling on the couch.  I've had a few visitors who wanted to meet her, and she was friendly and affectionate with everybody.   Her previous owners sent her with all her belongings (thank you) and an ample amount of toys which I think has helped with her transition.
Brandy is not much of a barker.  She was outside while I was shoveling the driveway on Sunday, and as a few of the neighboring dogs barked and yapped, she just calmly looked on.   On the funny side, when I let her out yesterday morning (I think it was 8 degrees)....she took about three steps and appeared to say "Oh, hell no....let me back in,"  and returned to the door to come in.    Pics will be coming soon.
