11/07 - Jack is so happy having a friend he is beside himself. He and Paulie are great friends. We feel so fortunate to have found this rescue and hope that we will be able to benefit from it for years and years to come. 9/25/07 - Well Paulie's foster mom was not kidding, he is the easiest dog ever. We drove him three hours and let him out of the car to meet our dog, Jack, who we adopted in March, he did not even look at him sideways. He is such a champion and fit right into the house and routine. He goes to the park, plays with friends' dogs, hangs out with Jack and greets me at the door every time. He is so happy and we will enjoy him so much forever!! 9/24/07 - Well... you were so right about Paulie just fitting right in. He is such a delight to have around... we are already in love. He and Jack are getting along well. Jack growls at him occasionally, but I think that they are just establishing who is going to be in charge between them. We let them meet right away and they played a little and ran around the yard. He is going to be a great addition to our lives and has already perked Jack right up! Talk to you soon-- I will send you pictures as soon as I get some. -Emily 9/22/07 - Paulie just left with his new mom and dad. They really seemed to like his personality and he was as easy going as ever, just hopping right into their laps, in Paulie fashion. I think we will have an awesome life with them! 9/19/07 - Paulie is pending adoption with one of our previous adopters and will have Boxer brother to play with in his new home. Congratulations Paulie! 9/14/07 - For those of you following the progress of Paulie, we is doing just fine. He spends his days at home with the kids and his partner in crime, Ty (though there are no real crimes). As you can see in the pictures they are good friends but Paulie has not met a person of dog he has not liked. We take him to the dog park often, this is one of his favorite things. He loves to romp around with the pack. He may be grey but he is quite active. I would like to see him go to a home that has another dog but that is not must. As long as he has someone to interact with, he is happy. He loves people and children. I have a 3 and 9 year old that he enjoys and plays very nicely with. I can walk him to the bus stop to see all the children or take him to a soccer game and he is very well behaved. He has excellent manners and is just a well rounded happy guy! I hope that someone out there can look past the gray and see that this guy is something special.
8/27/07 -
Paulie
continues to do well here. He is in fine health and such a pleasure to
have. He has no issues at all. When the right family comes looking for
him, he will fit right in. He is so easy going and just loves everyone.
If you need a companion Paulie is it. He is a dog who wants to be a part
of your family. He is active and yet also a MAJOR snuggler. He will make
his way into the smallest of spaces, just to be close to you. He needs a
home with someone who will spend time with him.
8/10/07 - Things
continue to be great with Paulie. I have gotten a lot of comments lately
on how much better he looks since I first brought him home. He has
filled in a bit and walks with a spring in his step! I gave him a bath
last night as we are having some people over this weekend and he likes
to look his best. He enjoys the extra attention! He is a good friend
too, as I gave my Ty her bath he stood by licking her face as if to
console her. They are too cute together. Afterward I put them on the
deck because they were both recharged with boxer energy and Paulie and I
played fetch with a pink squeaky flip flop for about a half hour! He may
be gray but he has just as much energy as my 6 year old. He does try to
mix it up with her at times, in a playful way, but she is too much of a 7/30/07 - I wanted to send in an update since it has been awhile. Paulie is doing great. He is happy, playful and feeling fine! He loves playing with my female boxer and the kids. I cannot tell you how good a dog this guy is. Everyone that meets Paulie just loves him. He is a real people dog. Such a character, he is very vocal and will come "talk" to me in the mornings if I sleep in past his walk or meal time. We just love him. He has so much to offer a family. If you would like a dog that will fit seamlessly in your family, a dog who will be your loyal companion- an integral part of your family, Paulie is someone you should meet.
7/20/07 - Our
medical liaison spoke to the vet that treated Paulie, as well as read
the biopsy reports. Paulie did have a grade 3 mast cell tumor. Tumors
are graded on size, cellular invasion, and location. Although this is
the highest grade tumor, this type of tumor is locally invasive. The
chances of this type of cancer spreading to other places is rarely
seen. This tumor may come back or another tumor may form under the skin
in another place. As any boxer owner knows, this special breed are
prone to these types of tumors. That is why we regularly check our
babies, for lumps all the time, and take them to our vet when any of
them look suspicious.
6/10/07 - Paulie is doing great. He is a lot of fun to have
around. He has been playing with all the dog toys and even picked
one out for himself while we were in the vets office. They just
loved him there. The shelter had told us that he was not good with
cats but I have seen some amazing control with him in the past few
days. He has had several encounters with a wild turkey that has been
hanging around my house. He initially wants to chase it but after a
command or two ("leave it") he settles down and just watches it. We
had the same experience with a giant groundhog that was 5ft away
from him on his walk. We ignored it and I told him "leave it" and we
kept going. On the way back, the crazy groundhog was still there and
all he did was look at it as we passed. Finally, we crossed paths
with a chipmunk (obviously I live in a rural area) and he paid no
attention to it what so ever. I think he has shown outstanding
control. 6/5/07 - Paulie has been with us for 5 days now and he is doing well. He is completely housetrained and took immediately to our walking schedule. He is no longer separated from the rest of the house and he has been fine. He sleeps on his dog bed or in your lap if allowed! He does not go on furniture. When we did have him gated he became somewhat of an escape artist, as he does not like to be alone when you are home. So if he did need to be separated for any reason, he would need to be crated. He is fine being out when he is home alone. He has met the neighborhood, adults and kids and has been great. Everyone loves Paulie and comments on how handsome he is. As a typical boxer he wants to be a part of the family. He follows me around all day and is just so sweet. He responds very quickly to correction as he is eager to please. 6/1/07 - The vet called today on his heartworm and fecal test and everything is good. He can be vaccinated in two weeks. It appears his teeth have been cleaned recently. They were beautiful. He is not as old as the shelter thought (maybe 7) and I don't believe he considers himself old at all...he is having much fun at home. They said he should gain only 4-6 lbs, which seems light to me. He is at 48lbs. with bones showing and loose skin. 5/31/07 - Paulie is a total lap dog. Anytime I sit on the floor he jumps in my lap and rolls over for a belly rub. Last night he fell asleep curled up on me and my husband thought I was going to sleep on the kitchen floor with him. I couldn't bear to disturb him when he was so peaceful. He will be just fine here. I'm just not sure he knows that he is a senior though. Once he puts on with he will be romping with my girl, I'm sure. He has a vet appointment this evening at 5 PM. We'll keep you updated. 5/30/07 - We just arrived home, the senior boy and I. He was perfect in the car the whole way home. He is very sweet and painfully skinny. He is not bad on the leash, he pulls a bit but we can work on that. After taking him for a nice walk, I gated him in the kitchen. He and my female Ty sniffed each other through the gate, both with tails wagging. Now he is lying on his blanket sleeping. His eyes should get checked as one is a little droopy and the other has some discharge. Other than that he seems fine, just thin. He has a lot of energy for an older dog and I can only imagine when he gets his weight up. He is quite gray but does not act like a senior, I'll be curious to hear what the vet thinks of his age. When I leave him alone in the kitchen he cries but hasn't tried to escape. I have the crate if necessary.
