6/24/09 - A much delayed update on terrific Tye:Tye is doing very well, still a sweet pup, pushing 75 (very trim) pounds now!  We had a bit of a scare last winter, when he went completely lame in the hind end and terrible possibilities like degenerative myelopathy etc came up...but after 4 months and 6 specialists, we finally found a vet who figured it out:  Tye had partially torn BOTH his right and left cruciate ligaments...the vet figured probably one first, and then being a knucklehead puppy the second trying not to slow down!  Where he was so young, the vet recommended trying 6 months of rehab first, versus surgery, and it seemed to have worked quite well.  It has been over 6 months since the end of his rehab and his knees seem to be holding fine :)

11/9/07 - Well, Tye is nearly 8 months old now, and still doing just wonderfully...he became part of the family in a blink, now it seems like he has always been here :)  He still acts like a lil pup, full of energy, LOVES to wrestle and rough-house with the big shepherd, follows the lab around like a shadow...  He is still one of the sweetest pups I've met, always happy and wiggling and those big sloppy boxer kisses!
Thank you again - we and Tye are all very happy :)

7/14/07 - Tye is doing wonderfully - so well behaved, we were wondering if Donna wasn't a dog whisperer!  Really, he is just the sweetest little pup!  Actually, not so little I guess:  he went for a checkup with our vet and weighed in at 35 lbs, at approximately 13 weeks of age :)
He seems to really like his new home, he gets quite excited to go in the house when we get back from somewhere. And he loves walking around the property - the birds, bunnies, frogs, pinecones, it's all so very interesting to him!
He is so friendly, he wants to play with just everyone...he was quite the hit at puppy kindergarten class the other day.  His obedience training is progressing nicely...he is picking things up quickly.
It took a little while, but my 2 big boys (a shepherd and a lab) have decided they like the little scrapper, and everyone is playing and wrestling and running around happily.
We are all just so happy to have Tye, we can't say enough fabulous things about your organization!  Thanks so much!

7/2/07 - Well, my little "big" guy left this afternoon to his new life. He will have a Mom, Dad, and 2 fur brothers, plus 3 acres to explore! Susan came with her sister along for the drive. I'm glad she had company, as it took them over 6 hours to get here. He went right in the comfy crate and was more interested in the new toy they brought for him than mushy goodbyes! He is an exceptional dog and I will really miss him. I have no doubt that he will have a wonderful life. Donna

6/29/07 - Tye is pending adoption.

6/19/07 - Tye had a great Sunday afternoon. Along with my BAR boy, JD, we went to visit my last Foster, Jessie and her new Mom and Dad. I was very curious how Jessie would react to me and her former foster brother and playmate JD. Well, after polite hello's and extra sniffs, it was all about "Tye the Guy", and we were all left in the dust!!! JD was left to play fetch with us. Tye loved every minute of the non-stop play with little Miss Jessie girl. He had a few time outs for a drink and investigate the yard and figure out that an acorn was not a treat! He was a little bit bouncy on the ride over in the car, but settled down within a few minutes. On the ride home, he just collapsed and found his spot and did not raise his head until we pulled into the driveway. I just love the puppy energy. They go like mad, are living in the moment, and just plop down and sleep with a big smile and big dreams about their adventure and what new experience tomorrow will bring!
We went to the Vet today for his next shots. He will be due for booster and Rabies in 4 weeks. He has gained almost 2 lbs. since last week! I'll still be offering him lunch, as he is hungry mid day and these growing babies need the extra nutrition for a few months more. He will now sit on command and stay while I put his food down until he is released. He was perfect in the car. Immediately was settled. Once again, everyone at the office was so impressed with his demeanor and disposition, including the Vet, who said that he might even be interested in this guy! I know that I may be repeating myself, but out of the 16 dogs I've fostered (some quickies), this boy has been the easiest...can you imagine, a 12 week old puppy being easy? He continues to amaze me. Maybe because he is not 100% Boxer and doesn't have all that tuff Boxer attitude going on, but what he does have going on is a lot of love, willingness to please and learn and a lot of puppy joy! I wished I knew his personality better before I named him Tye (which he now knows), I would have named him "Bliss"... Gladness, Supreme Happiness.... cause that totally describes this precious gift that came to BAR! Check back in, as I may have some crummy pictures I took of Tye and Jessie playing ;) Ha! I'll leave it up to Jean, who does the website!

6/14/07 - Tye continues to thrive here, making leaps and bounds in his physical and mental growth. He loves interacting with the big boys and is not shy. He's becoming quite confident, but responds when they give their signals that his behavior at times is not welcome. It's good for him to learn his order in the pack.

His fecal came back negative, and we go back to the vet for his next puppy shots on Tuesday.

We've been invited to a BBQ on Sunday over at the new adoptive family of my last Foster, Jessie, who, by the way, is doing wonderfully. She's actually started to gain weight and has been fairly stable with her colitis. It should be an interesting adventure for the little guy.

I still am amazed at how good Tye is, especially in the crate. Still working on house training and he is getting better at going potty on the grass as opposed to the deck! We've had a lot of rain and dew and I don't think he's nuts about getting his feet wet, although, he had no problem going out in the rain to relieve himself, but didn't make it to the grass. I tipped his front nails today. He was too squirmy to do the back feet on my own, so I'll wait until he's sleepy! He's just a happy fella and seems very willing to learn. Soooo full of kisses...his tongue is like a hummingbird's wings! Check back in soon, as everyday is a new adventure for this baby!

6/11/07 - "Tye the Terrific" had his wellness checkup at the vet today. He weighed in at 26lbs., his neuter incision is healing nicely and he checked out great over all health wise. We are waiting for the fecal results, but he was wormed at the shelter, so I expect negative. There are some doubts that he is 100% Boxer, but the vet seemed to think he was. Who cares...he's Boxer enough, that's for sure. Everyone loved him, even the vet tech gave me a name and number of a very good friend looking for a young pup. I gave her the scoop on the application process. I don't expect he'll be in rescue for long...he is just the best little guy. He's turned out to be such an easy foster. Generally the young ones are a lot of work, but not this fella. He's totally crate trained at this point. Sleeps through the night with no accidents at all. I can't say that he is housetrained yet, cause I am home during the day and we are on a schedule. But I can say, that after he's eaten, done his business outside, I can feel free to let him romp around in the house with the boys for a couple of hours with no problems.

Other "puppy progress"....Tye learned to go down the 2 flights of stairs by the third day, thankfully, as he was getting too heavy to carry. Now he flies up and down like a pro, he's actually quite proud of himself! Also is responding to not to jump, sit for meals, verbal sound for inappropriate behavior, and starting to know his name. I think he's finally getting used to his collar...the sideways crab walk and neck scratching are less frequent, and he's improving on the leash. Oh, and he's learned how to step up to reach the "big boy's"  water dish. Even though he has access to his own bowl, he prefers the big one...guess he wants to be part of the gang! He is coming out of his shell and feeling more confident. Thankfully, JD is warming up to him in sync. He was none too thrilled having this house guest. But all is well. Tye is one heck of a good puppy. I just can't express how impressed I am with this guy at his young age. :)) I sent some pictures, but I'm the worst at capturing a good shot. Trust me, he's just as adorable as he is beautiful...I'll keep trying, as he's growing so fast. ;)

6/6/07 - Tye arrived last night at "Boxers by the Bay" via "Gary's Express Delivery" (GED) with all the fixing's!! I think he's an extremely well behaved pup for his young age, especially considering that he was picked up as a stray, neutered at the shelter, driven out to me (sorry about the throw up, Gary!), introduced briefly to 2 other Boxers and a cat and put to bed in a strange environment. He whined a bit in the crate, so I draped 3 sides and it seemed to comfort him. I think he was somewhat restless, but quiet, until he heard the train whistle at 1:30 AM and thought it was his job to howl along with it. Mind you, the station is not exactly around the corner. It was pretty funny, I had to put the light on to observe this little guy in his bravado! So I took the opportunity to put him out for potty. He went right back in the crate and settled down without much fuss, for the rest of the night and we woke up to a dry crate!

We had two minor accidents today. I would say that he is not house trained at this time, as he made no indication that he needed to go, but has not messed in his crate at all. We just need to get on a schedule.

We had some gentle interaction with my Boxer boys this afternoon. He was not overly pushy and responded to their signals. I have to share that my guys were very surprised at being smacked in the face with Tye's very happy natural tail! Honestly, when I think about it, I don't know that they've ever been around a dog with a wagging, natural tail before. Their fascination with "it" was quite amusing!

I will be working on some obedience skills. He does know sit, but does a lot of jumping and is starting to respond to correction. He's also not used to stairs, but has made some progress today and is getting used to the leash. He's a typical pup that just needs some guidance. He has a very sweet demeanor and as cute as he can be! I'll keep you posted as he gets comfortable and if any behaviors emerge after the "honeymoon" period! :-))
