9/09 - Dolly has been adopted
9/3/08 - Dolly is pending adoption
8/22/08 - Dolly's foster family lost
their senior boy this week and she is doing so well in their home they
are going to foster-to-adopt her!!
8-18-08 - Dolly arrived
here only two hours ago, but it is like she has been here all her life.
I picked Dolly up this morning in NJ from her "girls' sleepover," thanks
again Jennifer! And another special "Thank you" to all of you who got
Dolly all the way down here from MA!!! However, something tells me that
this special girl thanked each and every one of her drivers in her own
special way... she is just that kind of dog.
Well, the plan was to bring Dolly into the house and let her mellow out
in her own special dog room upstairs away from all of the commotion
until foster dad could come home to help with the introductions to her
foster fur brothers, if we thought she could handle them already.
However, Dolly had other plans. She was not at all happy to be put away
in place where she couldn't see anyone. So, she made this quite clear
through continuous nervous barking. Therefore, I decided to introduce
everyone on my own... since they had all seen each other through the
sliding glass door and didn't do anything more than wiggle at each
other. (Plus, we had Jennifer's 24 hour observations to go off of)
Step One: Introduce Dolly to "Friendly" Paulie. She barely batted an
eye. Despite Paulie gallant attempts to get her attention. Step Two:
Introduce Dolly to Jack. Jack can be possessive of me so he is the
"wild card." This went well also!! So now, as I type, all three all
sprawled out, fast asleep!! Introductions/ Dog Friendly--- Check!
Now, Dolly is deaf. She was born this way and clearly has not let this
slow her down any. She is a monster sized female, weighing in at 71
pounds. And she could stand to gain a little more. She knows how to
sit, lie down, and take treats like a lady using
hand signals. She
could know a lot more and I just haven't figured them out yet. She is
fine off leash in the yard as she never really leaves my side and checks
in constantly... keep in mind she has known me for only a few hours.
Her intake information from the shelter says that she lived with cats
and kids as young as two. And she was fine with all of these things.
While Dolly will require a special person to understand her and her
needs... she will make an easy companion for, seemingly, as family!!
