PerfectHome: A dog loving family with a strong leader looking for
an extremely loving boy with
2/12/12 - It's a 20 degree day today with a foot of snow so I
think I'll stay inside and play with my favorite toy....with my favorite
skin sister....enjoy my video showing me doing just that!! 1/22/12 - Gino is doing very well. He enjoyed the holidays and visiting with his foster grandparents. His fur sister taught him how to find and unwrap the dog Christmas gifts. He loves his gifts! He goes into the toy crate and tips it over most days to find his toys. He gives lots of nub wags and does a really great kidney bean! :) He also LOVES dog beds - we cover him with a blanket and it is pure bliss to him. He does not seem to be thrilled with some of the colder weather that we have had here in upstate NY. But, on a warmer winter day, he is not opposed to going for a hike in the woods to find some sticks or play a game of fetch. Here is a video of him doing just that:,http://youtu.be/UUr24ibD0EQ 11/28/11 - Hi everyone, Gino here! Well, its been a gorgeous Fall in Western NY so far. I don't know how much longer it will last but I've been enjoying it so far. I have been going on a lot of hikes with my foster family and I've been having a grand time. We go on these trails in the park and I get to crunch in all the leaves - I love to crunch the leaves. There is also a nice 1 mile loop path at the community center that we visit often and walk around a few times. I even got to check out Lake Ontario the other day! We finished up our hike and walked under the road over to the lake. I put my front paws in! What a sight I was! Anyway, just wanted to let you know what I've been up to. My foster mom is sending in some pics of me enjoying the Fall weather. Hope you enjoy them too!! Well, gotta run.....I think I see a toy with my name on it! 11/3/11 - Gino is truly a great dog to have in the home environment. He is quick to learn with positive reinforcement training. Here is a short video to show how obedient, gentle, polite, and patient he can be and respond to even the youngest member of the family in the home. If you are willing to spend the time with him to continue and reinforce this training I am sure he will respond for you. I would like to say that the polite and patient portions of the video are great things to do with your dog and in the case of Gino helped significantly to reduce the Alpha behavior early in his visit with us. I also have to take a moment and emphasize that I do not wish you try the "gentle" part of the video with Gino or your dog as it is risky and may not end so nicely. Hopefully you enjoy this..... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yINO6u50_qs&feature=feedu 10/24/11 - Wow. How time flies when you're having fun. So what's new? Let me think. Oh yeah, yesterday was fun. Mom had some people come over for a food tasting party. I got to meet the people on their way into the house. Stayed outside for awhile with dad doing some fall yard work during the presentation but then got to go inside and visit some. Ooh, such good smells. Did some mingling and momma gave me a small piece of that beer bread with a REALLY tasty dip. Hope she has some more of these parties again soon. Mom and Dad said they are working on another short video of me. I like my sister a lot and she has been spending time with me doing tricks so I guess they think you might like to see me some more. Hopefully they get some time to finish it soon. If you like me and can't wait for the video why not stop on over and meet me? 9/7/11 - New Video of Gino: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rABCrlvBGs4 9/5/11 - Hi, It's Gino here. A rainy holiday today, but at least it is getting cooler. Just surfin the net and noticed it is time for an update. I recently got to spend a couple of days with another BAR volunteer while my family went away for a few days. She is real nice. I like riding in cars and she has a nice truck. I can see much more from up there. Got to go for a couple of rides with her. Not much new to say so my family is working on a video of me. I saw a nice handsome boy on the television and realized it was me in one of the clips. Can't wait to see the video when they are done. Check back soon as I hope they get it done to show you some more about me and some of the things I can do. In the meantime, if you see anybody looking for a great boxer boy (aka Genester, big boy, buddy, "the Fresh Air Brooklyn Boxer", dude, and for a short time "tank" which is from a story for some other time about me and a screen door) send them in this direction for a look. I would love to meet them. Well, gotta go and do some pacing. IT'S DINNER TIME! 8/15/11 - Gino...well what can I say about this boy...He met his foster grandparents and was excited to meet them. Lots of kidney beans. He is so good with his crate - when he is let out for the last time at night, he comes in and puts himself in his crate. He has even graduated to sleeping on a dog bed in the bedroom - he's pretty quiet - just stays on his bed. He loves my daughter - goes up and says goodnight to her and will run in and wake her up in the morning. Likes to follow you around the house and will lay next to you. Doesn't really startle...loud noises and vacuum cleaners don't bother him. He is such a good boy. If anyone is looking for a beautiful, sweet, housebroken boy.....we have him! Please check out his update pictures!! 8/7/11 - Not much new with Gino....seems to be settling in pretty well. We were trying to get him to 'shake' and he didn't seem to understand. After several times of watching his foster fur-sister shake, he picked right up on it. Tell Gino to shake and he will now give you his paw. He also got a bath, didn't seem to mind at all. Cleaned his beautiful coat right up - he's now soft with a sheen to his coat. He's a pretty easy going boy. Loves to lay next to you. Just waiting to find his fur-ever home! 8/2/11 - Gino is doing very well. He is 'off-leash' now. He loves to run with his foster fur-sister but she is just too fast for him. She was around the shed and into the garage so fast that he just stood there and looked for her when he came around the shed. He is much more comfortable with his stitches removed and will quietly lay around in the evenings. He will also lay on your lap if you let him. He will also melt to the ground when you rub him between his eyes. He is such a big mush! He is also getting very good with his crate (vari-kennel). He has seen deer and rabbits and has not chased anything. He will walk around and explore but doesn't seem to have any desire to leave the yard or 'his' people. We now come home to two excited, kidney-beaning boxers! Gino is truly a gem of a dog! 7/29/11 - Gino had his vet appt. today and got his stitches out. He was also weighed and weighed in at 65 lbs. The vet said that was a good weight for him. He has settled in well....getting nubby wags, kidney beans, and even a 'tuck & run'. He is doing very well with his commands, his 'stays' are getting much longer. He graciously enters his crate(vari-kennel) now. He sleeps in it at night for at least 8 hours and he is also crated at various times during the day with no accidents in the crate. ,Introductions with my resident female boxer are also going well. My husband took him out for an early morning individual walk this morning and he walked very well with barely a tug. He is such a good boy!!!
7/25/11 - Picked Gino up Saturday (7/23) in the Binghamton Area
and this guy was stressed. He has just come up from Brooklyn and it was
hot and he had a cone around his neck from his neuter on 7/14 We
got home and went right out for a walk with Gino, a short one because it
was hot out. He will pull with a regular collar and he is strong! A
choke collar is best, get it high up on his neck and he walks well. This
boy is a good walker. He basically ignores everything when walking.
Passing by other people, dogs, kids, whatnot, were given no interest by
Gino. Walked well with my female boxer - no interest in her when they
were walking. He does like to lick her jowls though. :) We don't
have a fenced yard. Gino does not try to escape - he goes out and kind
of stands there, or walks around with you. Gino will lay on our front
porch and show no interest in passing dogs. He does love to play fetch
but doesn't like to bring the toy back. He thinks its more interesting
to have you try and get it from him. :) Gino will need some work
on crating. I guess he never liked the crate so this was never enforced
so we are working on that. We put him in his crate(vari-kennel - this
works best) with some cheese and leave him in there for a little bit. He
does relax and lay down. Then he gets a 'good boy' and a little bit of
cheese when we let him out. He seems to know his commands but
again, reinforce these with him. Gino knows sit, down, come, and I have
also tried stay with him. I make him sit & stay before coming into the
house and he responds well. He seems like a quiet boy, haven't
heard him bark much. He really loves to be around people. He is also
very good with my daughter. Seems like a very calm boxer. Gino is
a very tolerant boy - you can roll him right over onto his back and he
doesn't care - he will let you! Likes to have his belly rubbed and be
petted. Oh, and he loves Kong toys. I just gave him a kong and he
has been entertaining himself for at least an hour. He did not care
about the peanut butter in so I took that out but just loves chewing on
one and knocking it around. He carries it around with him and then lays
down with it. I can take it away and he loves to take it right back.
You have to see Gino to really appreciate him. He is a big beautiful
fawn boy with a black mask, white chest and white tipped toes. Gorgeous
smooth fawn coat and big soulful eyes. This boy won't be around long.
7/20/11 - Gino will be going to his BAR foster home this weekend. 5/25/11 - From one of BAR's Directors - I met
Gino this weekend, owner brought him out to me in Long Island. Very
nice boy...has been around kids, but the owners girlfriend if having
a baby soon and Gino is lacking in the manners area, so he feels is
it best to surrender him. He has not been crated because as a young pup he did not like the crate, so he was gated in rooms when needed. He is trustworthy in the house and if let out every 4-5 hrs, should have no accidents.
