Pertinent Information 7/12/04 - It's been a year and it really does seem like yesterday that we made our LONG journey to Albany to pick up Bo. It's amazing what a year has done for this sweet little boy and we are SO happy that we decided to go through a rescue to find a dog. We had a party for 4th of July and a lot of our company had never met him before. Bo did wonderfully, especially with the kids who couldn't get enough of him! He's still a barker when meeting someone new, especially men, but settles down quickly enough. I think the last few months have made a great difference in him. We were still having the occasional accident when he was left home alone, whether for five minutes or five hours. Bo's seem to now realize that that is not acceptable and has gotten much better with using the "facilities" before and after our departure. Thanks, BAR, for all you do for these wonderful dogs! 1/18/04 - It's hard to believe that it's been six months since we first brought Bo home! He continues to do wonderfully and has become a real part of the family...he even complains right along with the kids! We've found that he has a few tricks - he loves to howl along when my daughter plays her harmonica and will "crawl" to try to get a treat that is out of reach! He's also learned to open the door where we keep his treats, so we've had to make sure that they're sealed up tight. He listens very well, and we've been able to progress to leaving him alone in the house if we're going out for a short time with no accidents, problems, etc. All in all, he's a fabulous dog!!! 10/14/03 - Wow! It's hard to believe that Bo has only been with us three months. He's doing great and continues to amaze us with just how wonderful he is. He tries very hard to be a good boy and is successful a majority of the time. Bo's "male" barking has improved and once he's told "enough" he settles right down. Of course, we let him ham it up a bit with strangers, but I truly don't think he could or would hurt a fly! Bo's obedience training is going very well. He tends to be a little submissive when his collar and leash are on, but has started to learn that, on or off, he needs to listen. He's settled in enough that I don't feel bad telling him he's getting on my nerves! :D We really adore him! 9/12/03 - Bo continues to blossom day by day. He is a wonderful dog and his true personality has really begun to show. He loves my children to no end and follows them everywhere they go, especially my daughter who is two. He sleeps at night on his bed in my son's room and doesn't budge all night. He loves to be with our family and does not like to be left alone for a second, even if I walk outside simply to get the mail. He is always crated when we leave...I don't think he would know what to do with himself and don't want to take any chances! He continues to bark at our male visitors, and with family member we now tell him "enough!" and he tends to settle down rather quickly. We start obedience classes on the 17th and I think with that, he will be one unbelievable dog! I have told everyone our "rescue" story and have always heard such positive feedback that I hope we will encourage someone else to give another dog a second chance! 8/12/03 - Bo (Caesar) is doing fantastic! He has adjusted to his new home wonderfully and has become a true part of the family. He is very gentle (and patient) with our two kids aged 5 and 2 and has been very friendly towards most visitors as well. I say most, only because we have discovered that he has a "male" issue. He tends to bark, not aggressively at all, at any male that comes to our home. We have not been able to figure out why, but do think that it may have something to do with the smell of sweat. I spoke to the obedience trainer where we will be going in September and she has given me some ideas to try and hopefully we'll get him over this! Otherwise, he is such a love bug and I think he truly knows that he has found his FOREVER family!!! 7/19/03 - Caesars' (now known as Bo) new mom called this morning with his update and he's doing really, really well in his new home. They're just thrilled with him, he's been great with the kids and only one accident in the house! (Go Bo!) The only problem they're having is his anxiety with strange men. He barks and barks and barks and just won't stop when a man that he doesn't know comes to the house. They're working with him on this - and I think as he learns that he's there forever he'll get much better. Michelle assured me that Bo will not be coming back into rescue again, that he's definitely a keeper. 7/12/03 - Caesar's new family got here a little
while ago to pick him up - they drove all the way from the Atlantic City,
NJ area to Averill Park to get him! About 4 hours one way. And they are
great! A 5 year old boy to play with and a 20 month old girl at face level
to give kisses 7/11/03 - Caesar is pending adoption. 7/3/03 - Everything you've read about Caesar is true - what a doll boy this little guy is. He is just the sweetest thang! Caesar came to us last night because of severe allergies one of his adopted family members developed and he's doing his best to settle in here. He did have a poop accident in his crate yesterday but he had come from his adoptive home straight into the crate here in an empty house because one of our dogs had an appointment at the vet. Since then he has been nothing short of delightful to have in the house - he's met all of our current residents with no problems, even Bruno who isn't quite sure yet how to treat new dogs when he meets them. Caesar just gave him a little submissive thing and put up with his once over and everything is just peaches and cream between the two of them. That works out rather well because Caesar really doesn't like his crate - he was barking when I left for work this morning and barking when I came home - I can only hope there was some down time in the middle because the neighbors have been home all day. This sweet boy will be gone in the blink of an eye so get your name on his list! 7/2/03 - Unfortunately Caesar's new family found that one of the family members is very allergic to him and he has been returned to rescue. 6/22/03 - Caesar has been adopted. 6-20-03 - Hi, it's Caesar again. I've been so quiet and a little sore from my surgery since Tuesday when I came back to the foster home. Foster Mom sat up with me all night because she was so worried about me. I wouldn't eat, move, drink water or anything. She hand fed me some food, and even hand fed me some water. I ate a little the next day, and am eating more and more now. I'm actually getting very spoiled. She feeds me a little at a time all day to get some meat on my bones. I'll be OK in a while, I know. I'm am really eating more. But my tummy is so tiny, that I can only take a little at at time...I've gotten good stuff, steak, hamburger, chicken, broth, yogurt, and even oatmeal with yogurt in it yesterday for breakfast...Boy, did I love that. My best friend is Bugsy. We sleep together all day. I love to cuddle up to him and sleep on him. When Foster Mom goes in to watch TV, we all go in with her and sleep on the floor together. The best thing here is that we get to go out on the deck all day and sleep. It hasn't been too hot, so we just hang out there. The boys have been really good with me. They take care of me...They know I'm not feeling that great. The kitties are really getting very comfortable with me, even Mousey who is starting to cuddle with me too. The old one spits at all the dogs, but she walks around us. She's the only female non human in this house, so she thinks she a princess. Well, it's yogurt time for all of us. So I'll write to you again soon. I'll be ready for my forever home soon. Foster Mom wants me to fatten up first. But if you really want the most adorable little boy boxer, step right up. 6/21/03 - Caesar is pending adoption.
6/17/03 - Hi...It's Caesar...It's been an exciting two days for me. First on Sunday, my sister went away. She's being treated for Heartworm at another Foster Home. We had to be separated because of our attachment to each other and she wouldn't be quiet with me around. On Sunday, I got to stay outside with the resident boys all day and play and just lie around in the sun. I don't mind not having Darci here cause I have them to play with. And I'm allowed to be loose in the house too. I've come across the furry little things called cats and I don't mind them at all. They seem to be OK with me too. I was neutered yesterday and I'm doing fine. I'll be quiet for a couple of days too. As long as I can sit with Foster Mom, I'll be happy. She lets me sleep on her lap when she's watching TV.....Probably not a good thing, but she's spoiling me a little since I don't have Darci with me. I've also been tested for any parasites, and I have what is called Giardia...It comes from contaminated water. Don't know how I got this and not my sister. But then, she's got the worse of it, heartworm. I'll be treated with medication and it will go away. This explains why I haven't put on any weight, but Darci seems to have. So now, I'll start gaining the weight I do need. I'll get back to you in a couple of days to let you know how I'm feeling. We'll both be waiting for that special someone who will want to adopt two most adorable little boxer babies. We really do want to stay together. 6/12/03 - Hi...It's me, Caesar. Well, my sister, Darci got to write first, so now it's my time. We haven't really done too much here at the Farm, cause it's been really raining every day. My little sister is heartworm positive and will begin treatment this coming week, so I understand that we will be separated for the first time in our little lives.....I hope it works out....Foster Mom will start separating us this weekend, so we will be used to it by the time we both come home. I'm getting neutered on the same day that Darci starts her treatment. I'll get to go for walks with the resident boys here, but Darci will have to stay in her crate. I can run and play with them too, but she can't. I feel sorry for her, but I want her to get better so we can be adopted by a nice family who wants two very adorable little boxers. We both are still skinny, but seem to be putting on a little weight slowly. I'm a lovable little boy, who does like to start trouble. I have to learn to sit and stay. Foster Mom has started this, but with the two of us together, it's not easy. So, me being separated, I'll learn faster. Foster Mom says if it ever stops raining, she'll take me out by myself. I've seen the cats and walked right up to one and did nothing, Darci was with me, and she didn't do anything either. So, I guess we're OK with them. Well, I'm going to go back to sleep for now. Not too much else to do with the rain. So we'll stay in our room for now, and tonight we're going to be put in separate rooms and crates....I hope we don't cry too much. I can hang out with the boys while she's getting better. 6-8-03 - Hi. My name is Caesar and I'm now at the Boxer Country Farm and Retreat...I arrived here last night along with my sister, Darci. It was a long trip, but we made it OK. I was great in the car...Just slept most of the way, only to get up when the car stopped. Foster Mom let us outside together, and boy oh boy! A fenced in yard to run in. Did we snoop around and then ran together. I didn't know it was so much fun to do this. We then went inside in a room with a huge crate for us and a gate up. The resident boys, Hunter and Bugsy were let out to meet us through the gate. I like them. And they seemed to like us. We got to eat a huge bowl of food with yogurt in it and gobbled it all up. Then we were out again to play. It is so much fun. We were to go in our crate around 11 and got cookies to go in with. Foster Mom gave us new toys to play with, but I don't really know what they are. They squeak and there's a ball and a rope for my sister, which is pink. I get the blue ball. I barked a little, but then settled down. This morning we got up and let out again. Foster Mom is impressed that we both are housetrained. We got to meet the resident boxers and played with them. They are good with us. I just want to run and run with my sister. Boy, this is fun. Foster Mom went out for a while, and we were put in our crate, and we were good. We've been in and out of the house all day, mostly out, playing, so now, it's downtime before dinner. We get to eat 3 times a day, because we are both very skinny and need weight. I'm an adorable little boy. Small for my age, but that is what makes me so cute. I love to give kisses, to be hugged, and love to be with Foster Mom. As long as I can see her, when we're in the room, we're OK. I know I'll get better, but I'm afraid to be left alone. I want to be adopted with my sister. I don't want to leave her. We love each other. We sleep together, eat together, and now really play together. I'll be getting neutered next week and Up to date on my shots. As soon as I get some weight on too, I'll be ready to go to my forever home, hopefully with my sister. Please, won't someone take two simply adorable little boxers into their home. We are so so cute..... |
