Pertinent Information 7/5/04 - Hello BAR. It's been a while since we've talked to you about Missy and it's been equally as long since we have said...again, thank you. Missy is doing great! She has fully moved in and has become a member of our family. Everyone loves her. All of our friends enjoy her and you can tell that she LOVES all of the attention she gets. She is a great companion and goes virtually everywhere with us. She loves the car. She is very well behaved. franky, it's like she talks to us. She talks to us when she is hungry, needs to go outside (and ya know...) or just wants to play. It's amazing - she is like a person. Since coming home with us almost one year ago she has gained about 15 lbs and has grown quite a bit. She has even learned to tolerate our two cats. Thanks again BAR - Missy is the best! 10/20/03 - Missy continues to be a wonderful addition to our family. Frankly, we feel very lucky to have her and thank the people at Boxer Angels Rescue for doing what they do. Everywhere we go she is thought to be the most beautiful dog. She is attending obedience training and last week was the star of the class. She will be going to obedience school for many more weeks. She plays in our yard with the kids, walks great on her leash, visits with other dogs once a week at a local puppy play class and all the while she is very well behaved. Eileen takes her almost everywhere - she loves being in the car. She is still struggling a little with our two cats, both are black and sometimes I wonder if she thinks she is seeing double. Anyway, the cats are quick and have many hiding places. No problem really, just healthy fun. 9/8/03 - Missy has been with us for a month now and frankly - she has been wonderful. We've certainly challenged her from the point of view that we have exposed her to a lot of people, other dogs, many strangers and a lot of moving around...and through it all she has been great! We have discovered that she loves to play soccer, plays in the ocean and generally wants to have fun. But, we also know when she has had enough fun because she simply stops playing and falls down for a nap. She tells us when she is hungry, when she wants to go out and when she wants to play. She alwys stays close to us and pretty much obeys us when we say "no", or any other simple command. We've had only two accidents so far and these we feel were because of new surroundings and a little anxiety...no big deal. She is still trying to figure out how to co-exist with our two cats. For the most part she is OK with them in the house. Good thing though that are cats are quick and they have a lot of hiding places. We know she'll get used to them - they just kinda look at each other a lot. Missy sleeps quietly in our room - NOT on the bed, but, instead under the window. She seems to bark only when she wants something and we're learning her language. She still growls a little when strangers approach, but, that we feel will subside after a little training and some more time with us. We start obedience training next Tuesday and we expect this will help her only to improve on what so far is an excellent experience. Thanks to all who made this possible for us. 8/6/03 - Well, first, thanks to Andrea and Rob
for a great hand off this afternoon...we really appreciate everything.
After our six+ hour drive to Andrea's house, we turned around and made the
drive home in about 5 hours, 30 minutes. I gotta tell ya, Missy
was FABULOUS. She never made a sound. She played a little,
slept a little and explored looking out the window. Our rest stops
were no problem either. She stayed close and all the activity didn't
seem to bother her a bit. When we got home she explored the house
and checked out the back yard. She wasn';t quite sure what to do
with the pool...I think she thought it was a giant water bowl. She
has discovered one of our two cats and they had a stand off until the cat
walked off - unfettered. Missy, still curious pursued slowly but
only for a moment...then turned away. We went for a short walk
around the center of town and when s! he was barked at by our neighbor's
Labs, she just looked at them with curiosity and on we went - she never
made a sound (they were about 100' away in their yard. We passed by
a family and she growled a bit at first...I held her close and told her
all was OK and she let them pass - no problem. The big test was
having my daughter (she's 13) come home with her friend. Eileen and
I were greeted at Andrea's house with a lot of barking, shyness and
uncertainty. My daughter Taylor and her friend were greeted with
wiggles, tail wagging and excitement. 8/6/03 - Missy has been adopted. 8/5/03 - Missy is pending adoption. 7/25/03 - Missy is doing very well here at Boxer Buddy Retreat. We have found she likes to chew, so we keep plenty of chew toys around for her convenience. Not a problem here since her recreational partner is a big chewer. She listens when you tell her to drop something, and knows pretty much what is ok to chew and what is off limits. She loves to play tug, frisbee and run. She would really love a home where she could run and play, especially if she were to have a playmate. She is very good with the kids, and loves to play with them as well as the other dogs. My youngest niece who is 3 was over and she was great with her as well. She did not get overly excited and knew to stay calmer around her. She will make an excellent addition to someone's home. She knows sit, down, shake (but tends to do them when she wants...still working on that one), she does come when called, and she loves to get the last word in. She is so adorable, fun loving and friendly. And she does like to be loved...but who doesn't. She gives lots of kisses and loads of wiggles. She can do a wonderful kidney bean dance. She wants a home of her own, a place she can call hers, and a family for her to love. 7/17/03 - Missy has been to the vet for her heartworm and fecal tests...both came back negative. She is a very healthy girl who was given her vaccinations (as they were almost due anyways), and is ready for her new home. She does have some issues with strangers though. BUT once she gets to know them she is fine and full of boxer wiggles. She is so wonderful once you get to meet her and know her. We have enjoyed her here a lot! She is totally housebroken and has not had any accidents at all! She continues to bark when first put in her crate. She also continues to need gentle guidance going into the crate (cookies and peanut butter cones help a lot!). She has been great with my kids and cats and all the other dogs here! She loves to run and play. She is awaiting a home of her own and a family she can call her own...are you the family for her? 7/14/03 - Missy is doing great here at the Boxer Buddy Retreat. She loves the opportunity to run and play with the kids and resident boxers. She loves to play keep away with the younger resident boxer Mack, and they are both really good at it. They can tire each other out in such a short time with that game. Rudy, the other resident boxer, loves to join in and have a three way game. One will steal it and the others will chase them. She is very good at keep away though. She does continue to bark at first in her crate, but does not mind going in it for bed time. She does tend to pull away if she has to go in during the day though and needs a gentle guide in and reassurance that she is still loved. A little hug and a nice cookie go along way! She loves getting a peanut butter cone when in her crate too. She does not seem to pull on a leash unless there is another dog around that she wants to play with. She loves toys and does like to chew. She is definitely one precious girl who definitely deserves a loving home... are you the home for her? 7/10/03 - Missy is a playful pup who loves attention. She has been excellent with my children and with all my other 4 legged friends. She loves to run and play outdoors and would do great with a large yard. We have no problems keeping her in our yard and she comes when called. She plays with the tennis balls and frisbees outdoors. She sleeps well in her crate at night, but still has the tendency to bark and cry for a short while. There is someone or some family out there that will be lucky to get this girl. 7/7/03 - Missy is a wonderful girl who does a wonderful kidney bean dance. She is full of boxer wiggles and boxer kisses. She loves my kids who are ages 6, 9, and 11. She is great with the other dogs and loves to play. Missy is doing well with the cats too. She would love a home with other dogs and even human kids. She is full of energy and is ready to play. She has not had any accidents in the house. She goes in her crate with a little guidance, but does have a tendency to bark and yip while in there, but does settle after a couple minutes. She has been a treat to have here at Boxer Buddy Retreat. The introduction went very smoothly and it seemed as if they all knew eachother since birth! I am sure she will not be in rescue long, and some lucky family will end up with this wonderful prize of a dog! |
