10/13/04 - I guess it’s time for Jake’s one year update. We have been on quite the rollar coaster ride with this one. He’s sweet, affectionate, very intelligent and absolutely crazy. He loves everyone, especially my 5 month old daughter. He goes crazy anytime he sees anyone or any animals outside; he even broke a window trying to get at a squirrel who had the nerve to root for acorns in my front yard. Jake will do anything for a cookie and learns faster than any dog I have ever worked with, but is distracted way too easily. Hopefully he will grow out of that nasty problem. Jake is happy healthy and extremely spoiled in our home.

4/11/04 - We haven't updated Jake in awhile, but considering today is his 2nd birthday, I thought I should share how great this dog is.  Jake is the sweetest baby and absolutely loves to snuggle with us and his sister Taz.  We have had some rough spots with Jake and his mischief and separation anxiety but we wouldn't trade him for the world.  His anxiety is being controlled very easily with a mild antidepressant so now he is just loving life!  He is now in advanced obedience and making everyone smile with his antics and eagerness to work.  Whenever we go out, he draws so much attention with that beautiful face of his.  We are all getting prepared for the arrival of a new skin kid, first one in this house!  I have no doubts that Jake will be excellent with a new baby.  Every time he sees one, he whines and cries until we let him give kisses.  Thanks so much BAR for letting bring this special boxer into my home.  He really is one in a million!

12/27/03 - Jake and I had our test for basic obedience today and he took 1st in his class! What a boy, he was prancing and completely showing off today. We were the 3rd to go and after we completed the first part, healing, my trainer said "It looks like they just set the bar for the rest of you" Such a good boy! When they handed out the certificates and announced that Jake placed first, he immediately stood up looking around and just soaked in all the attention he was getting. After they moved on to the next dog, Jake just stood there whining and crying not wanting to give up the spotlight. That's my boy!

12/17/03 - Jake is just such a great baby boy. He is doing really well with his obedience work and we are already planning on moving to the next level with him. He and Taz are just great big love bugs with each other. They play, give each other kisses and sleep in the same x-large dog bed. He has decided that the Christmas tree is a great new source of water though. Much easier and quicker to go over there for a drink then to walk into the kitchen in the next room. He will also try to get into the shower with you given the chance for some really fresh water! He is having some trouble with being left alone while I am at work. We are trying everything we can to help him through his separation anxieties and I am sure we will get him better. He deserves every chance to be happy with all the love and laughter he has to give. Jake says Happy Holidays to everyone! And he hopes you all get as spoiled as he will be!

12/1/03 - Jake has been with us for just about 2 months now and his true colors are finally coming out in full force. To say he is a handful is the under-statement of the year. He has earned a new nickname, Billy, as in Billy Goat. I swear he is part mountain goat. Every opportunity he has to stand on things, he’s there. Our kitchen table, the patio table, the motorcycles parked on the patio for the winter. Yes the motorcycles! He likes to climb onto the seat so he can see into the kitchen window! We have a sunroom with windows almost to the floor and a sliding glass door. Taz just loves to stand there looking out but Jake has to take it a step further, he stands on the chairs to get a higher vantage point. My poor furniture is scratched up and filthy! He is slowly starting to understand to keep his feet firmly on the ground. Like most boxers, Jake is obsessed with putting things in his mouth. He eats anything he can get a hold of including SOS Brillo pads. The best though, he stands on my mother’s end table in the living room and pulls flowers out of the arrangement hanging on the wall. He doesn’t pull the whole thing off the wall, just picks some flowers and leaves here and there. Jake also has a true problem with being an attention hog. Anytime we pet Taz, Jake comes rushing in to chew on Taz and try to pull her away from us. Poor Taz is starting to not want attention anymore. We are working a down-stay until it’s his turn for love. He starting to get it but this has really been our biggest obstacle. But he is sweet and funny. He and Taz play really well together all day long so they are good and tired by 8 pm. Just in time for me to relax for the night. He is doing so well in his basic obedience class that I have no doubts he will eventually calm down and learn the rules of the house.

11/4/03 - Jake has been with us for about three weeks and what a ride it has been. This boy is very much still puppy. He cries all the time, picks fights with Taz over attention and toys, gets into things and generally causes a raucous any chance he gets. When he wants something and just doesn't know how to get it, he makes the most adorable and strange sounds. His new nickname is Wookie. I swear they could have just recorded him to have the sound for Chewbacca! Jake loves to chew on everything, especially my hands, feet. His special favorite...ear lobes, yep he's a nibbler. He is such a super sweet boy though. He absolutely loves to snuggle with us and Taz. We have been to 2 classes of Basic Obedience and Jake is doing fairly well. He can be quite stubborn when he doesn't feel like doing something. Everyday he gets so much better and I am sure that he will be at the top of the class by the end. He tries so hard but just loses his attention. Hey, I never could pay attention in school either!

10/10/03 - Jake has been adopted

9/30/03 - More good news on Jake...He just had his first bath at my house....and he was SOOOOOO good!! He just stood in the tub and loved the shampooing, although, I think his favorite part was shaking off at the end!! He is so tolerant of everything!! Jake is a hearty eater and loves dog biscuits. Jake will make a wonderful family dog...he can't wait to see you in the morning and he does the best little boxer dance in the afternoon!! His little nub of a tail wiggles with the best of them!! You don't find many dogs like Jake!!

9/28/03 - Well, Mr. Jake went to the vet on Friday and boy did he turn some heads. Not only did the vet think he was a nice looking dog, but all of the people in the lobby said they wouldn't mind taking him home. He is definitely a head turner. Jake is now up to date on his Rabies and DHLPP shots and had a heartworm test done. Jake acted perfectly while the vet gave him the shots and drew blood for the heartworm test. He continues to amaze me at how quickly he adapts to new situations. I took Jake on a walk with just his buckle collar and he did just fine. He does not pull hard on the leash and he walks at the pace you are going. Jake does whine and cry for about 5 or 10 minutes when he is first put into the crate, but it is only soft little baby whimpers. He really doesn't bark, and we have trained him to go into the crate by himself with just a point at the crate ( a little cheese helped with that one!!). Jake is slowly learning "down" and he likes to give his "paw". He is such a sweet doll baby and he puts a smile on my face everyday!

9/25/03 - Jake has been adjusting nicely here. He is still just as sweet as ever. In fact, Tuesday night, I fell asleep on the couch and about ten minutes later I woke up to Jakes little kisses on my nose (he was hungry and wanted to make sure I wasn't going to forget his dinner!) Jake and my boxer Tyson have become fast buddies, however, I did learn that Jake will stand up for himself if he feels he is being bullied or his food and treats are going to be taken. He is not aggressive, Jake just wants Tyson to know that Ty can not have his treats. Jake walks very nicely with his harness now, he waits patiently by the door to go out and in fact, is very well housetrained. This weekend I would like to see how Jake walks on a leash with just a buckle collar on. Jake knows a few basic commands such as "sit" and "leave it". His previous owners had kids, so Jake is used to people of all ages, and his attitude is so calm that even my elderly neighbor felt comfortable petting him. Jake goes to the vet on Friday to be updated on his shots and then he will be all set!! This is a one of a kind dog who will make his forever family very happy!

9/22/03Jake has been the perfect houseguest so far. He is a very curious and lively dog. He likes to explore what is around him, but so far has not tried to take anything that was not his. He is good with my boxer and they are buddies already (eating and playing together). Jake is a very handsome little boy and he is very affectionate. I will update his profile as soon as I learn a little more about this boy!

9/21/03 - Just a quick note while Jake is eating his dinner...he arrived this afternoon. He is an energetic guy and is very handsome!! So far he has been very good and is exploring the yard as well as the house!! This cute guy has lots of wiggles and I am happy to have him as my first foster!!

From Debbie - Jake is a major mush.  His tail and butt wiggled like mad, and he's a major sloppy kisser!  Such a sweet dog, once properly trained, he will be a great boxer to own!  He drove great in the car, every now and then checking on my brother and I.  He was trying to lean on me and kiss me while I was driving, lol.   Such a sweetie!
