8/07 - Brandy has been adopted.

8/7/07 - Brandy is pending adoption.

4/6/07 - Brandy's father is traveling 2 to 3 days a week and has to put her in a kennel.  He thinks she deserves a better life than that so she is now available.

3/16/06 - Brandy's still doing wonderful!  The "Brandsters", as my daughter calls her, is living the good life as we continue to spoil her rotten with attention. The vet recently removed a growth on her leg.  He said that he is not concerned at this point but wants to monitor her from here on to see if additional growths appear -- if so he will send the growth for testing.  Otherwise, she is in perfect health.  Her vet also commented about Brandy's size in that she is still quite thin and very active for a dog her age.  We do take long walks everyday and I'll let her run when we are at my parents house because of the fenced in back yard.  She tires me out for certain! I love Brandy dearly, and I only wish that she were accepting of other dogs because having two boxers would be even better.

7/11/05 - I apologize for not updating Brandy's status sooner. She and I have been in a great routine since the early winter and it hardly seems as though life existed without her. She's a wonderful pet/friend who the whole neighborhood has come to adore. One of the clients in a NYSARC house down the block is constantly buying gifts for Brandy and as soon as Brandy goes outside she looks to see if her friend is on the porch waiting for her. If so, Brandy pulls me across the street and makes herself at home on the porch.
Brandy has become extremely obedient. Whereas she used to look for the opportunity to run, she now will stop immediately when I call her (if she slips her collar or somehow manages to become loose -- 2-3 times in the past several months). In fact, if I put on her leash and collar, and then drop her leash to the ground, Brandy will stay right next to me.
At home, she's a very cuddly pet and lays next to me whenever I stop, sit, or lay down myself. Nothing beats seeing how excited she becomes when I come home from work at the end of the day. Thanks!

2/15/05 - Brandy has continued to do very well. I was thinking about her update last night when I was driving home, and all I could think of were good things to say about her. She’s so good with my daughter and all of the little kids that come running to her when we go for walks in the park. She can be aggressive towards other smaller dogs, but she has impressed me a few times with her restraint. We were walking in the park a few weeks ago on a warmer day, and two golden retrievers (who were running loose off of their leashes for whatever reason…despite the fact that there are signs all over the park to leash your dogs…) came running across a large field toward us. Brandy stood perfectly still and watched. I wasn’t sure what to do other than to stand still also and wait for the owner to put the leashes on his dogs. Then when the two dogs were close they began barking and jumping back and forth toward Brandy—who still stood perfectly still just watching the two dogs. This was surprising because I didn’t think that retriever’s were aggressive…One of them finally got too aggressive and too close to Brandy and Brandy quickly jumped up and knocked the dog down before returning to standing perfectly still. I began to yell at the owner to put his dogs on their leashes, and when he finally did, Brandy just watched them walk away. No more than three minutes later she was laying on the ground as though nothing had happened while a bunch of kids who had been sleigh riding rubbed her belly. She really impressed me because I thought for sure that the situation would turn ugly but she remained very calm. I was a nervous wreck and it almost seemed as though she should have been walking me!
She’s good in the car and does well when I take her downstate to stay at my parent’s house for the night. To keep her occupied during the day I bought her a Kong ball and stuff it with goodies…she rarely moves from room to room without taking it with her, and I have to pry it out of her mouth before taking our walks.
She has also not had any accidents. I think that the fact that the temperatures are above sub-freezing is helping her, but I did buy her a sweater and fleece boots to help keep her warm on those cold walks.
I have a few pictures that I will send along. She’s doing very well and making everyone very happy!

1/16/05 - Brandy has been a real joy for both me and my daughter over the past month. She started out great -- almost too great. In the first week, she had to not only deal with her new home, but she had to deal with a hectic holiday season that included a busy Christmas Eve and an overnight trip to my parents house (where about 20 relatives gathered). She handled everything very well--there were no accidents and she probably enjoyed being taken out for so many walks by all of my relatives. After the holidays, she seemed to fall right into a routine: wake me up between 6-6:15 each morning
for a walk, go to the bathroom, go out with me one more time in the morning to warm up the car, and then she would stay in her room for a few hours until I would come home for lunch. We would go for a quick walk and then she was alone until I returned home from work. She would get so excited when I got home at the end of the day that I would see her looking through the 3rd floor window of my house waiting for me to pull into the driveway. As soon as I let her out of the room she would come downstairs and run around between the kitchen and living room, jumping up toward me before
finally giving me a washdown with kisses. Then we would go for another walk, and would take one more a few hours later before bed time. When I turned off the lights she would leave my room and go up to the 3rd floor where she would stay until the morning.
Up until the past week she seemed to be having a seamless transition. However, over the past week she has begun having accidents in the house and is not going to the bathroom on our walks. I've tried taking longer walks, but it's actually minus 20 degrees out tonight and neither of us can stay outside for too long on nights like this. We went to visit the vet today and he has given me some suggestions to help her calm down (he thinks that Brandy is getting far to worked up and is not able to go to the bathroom on our walks). He suggested melatonin or triptophan (not sure if
that's spelled correctly but it's the chemical in turkey that makes you sleepy) during the day when I'm not home. Hopefully, his advice works because I spend my time at work worrying about her now. I've also taken to just trying to wear her down by wrestling with her or having my daughter go crazy with the flashlight because Brandy loves to chase the light. Right now she's snoring and seems pretty relaxed.
Other notes: Brandy has terrible gas. She farted in the car earlier today and despite the freezing weather, we had to put the windows down...I felt terrible for my daughter because she was strapped down in her car seat in the back while Brandy was climbing on top of her.
Another thing that I discover on accident is that she will come back after a short while if she gets loose. On a warmer day about 2 weeks ago, I tied her up in the back yard, went inside to get something and by the time I got back she had chewed her way through the leash and was running around the neighborhood. She stopped to say hi to a few people and eventually came back and just watched me clear the melting snow. She also slipped out of her collar a few days ago at the park. She looked like she was just going to keep on running, and my daughter got very upset that she would
never see Brandy again...but a few minutes later she came running right back to us and sat still for me while I put her collar back on (tightly).
It's been a great experience so far, and I'm sure that she'll get back on track after her slip ups last week. I'm learning too about how strong she is, how she thinks that she's a lap dog despite weighing 60lbs., and how, even though she's come back to me the two times she's gotten away, she's an extremely friendly dog who wouldn't put up too much of a fight if someone wanted her to go with them...

12/18/04 - Brandy left around noon today. She was in a hurry to start her new life, she was waiting for them at the door when they arrived and couldn't wait to go with them. Michaels daughter got her to sit for a treat. Brandy was very well behaved except the minute he put the brand new leash on her she chewed almost all the way through it.  Even Tony is walking around looking for her.  Another great match. Thank you.

12/17/04 - Brandy is pending adoption

12/12/04 - Brandy is doing well. She keeps getting in Tonys crate with him to take naps. She is soooo fickle. She actually lays her head on him. She is quite at home here. She likes to sleep touching me. She will circle the bed until she finds where my feet are and then she lays on them. She is going to make a great companion. She is a lover as well as liking to play. Her and Tony have taken to playing tug-o-war. She doesn't like to lose. She has cut way down on the growling thing. She is content to be in the house with everyone. She will go in her crate with no problem and she can stay out of it when she is home alone, but only if you make sure all food stuff is out of her reach. Being tall she has a pretty good reach. Definitely the counter surfer, table surfer, garbage surfer. If the cans lid is on tight she is fine, if she can see anything hanging out its fair game. She looks forward to her treats and is the first at the door to great anyone that comes through it. She is a kisser, but hey that's no surprise, she is a boxer. She is a luv.

12/6/04 - Brandy is doing well. She has her quick moments of bad behavior when she goes after Tony.  She can go days without any incidents and then, boom she goes after him for a total of 5 seconds and then its over. I find if my son is petting her and Tony wants in on it she will snap at him once, more of a warning. If left alone she will play with him of course if he gets the upper hand she doesn't like it. She is very playful and has more energy than my 3 year old boxer. My son plays with her now at once a night with the flashlight and she will run circles with it. Sometimes she will walk up to Tony and lick his face. She is pretty fickle. She seems to love all people and is wiggles and licks for attention.
She hasn't beaten Tony to be the first in line for treats yet. I have no problem taking anything away from her. She will give a sad look though. If you turn your attention away she may try to come steal it back. I am surprised to still have her. As an only dog she is perfect. She now runs out to do her business outside, if the other dogs are out she runs a lap or so and then heads right back to the door to come back in the house. We must be more fun. She has been playing with toys more now and will bring them to you for a good tug of war session. She is very good at that. So hurry and get your application in and she can be yours for Xmas. What a great gift for yourself and her.

12/2/04 - Brandy is doing well. She is adjusting to Tony. Very seldom she snaps at him. She really hasn't tried to hurt him. She will go for days without any problems towards him. They lay together on my bed or the couch. They actually played together this week. I find when she does give a snap its quick and then over with. Tonight it was over a bone she actually stole from him and didn't want to give it back. Other days she is licking his face. Right now she is hitting me with a stuffed jack because she wants me to play with her. She is another beauty and as people come to visit they tell me what a great dog she is. One of the guys actually wanted to adopt her but he is in an apartment but he just loves her. She has been great with a visiting 10 month old. She only goes near him if she wants to lick his face. She does good in the crate. Now she and Tony are playing with the toy. I think she can adjust to another dog, I just think she wants to be the boss. Most of her growls or snappish noise are just that, noise. I have tested her with it and she doesn't carry it any further. I always tell her no when she gets aggressive and she stops. She hasn't tried to escape any more at all. She runs out and goes to the bathroom and speeds back to the house. She really is going to make another home very happy.

11/22/04 -Brandy got a clean bill of health at the vet yesterday. We found out that you can't check her eyes very well because she is like a cat and chases the light. Both of us cracked up. So far she has jumped the fence only once because she wanted to be with Mike out front. He called her and she ran back to the gate to go back in the yard. I have been letting her run a little at night in the yard and she has been good. When not on the leash her and Tony have not problems outside. Of course if the Shepard's are out Brandy won't come to me until she gets tires of running the fence line with them. I found she likes soda, I left my glass of Root Beer on the night stand while getting ready for bed and heard lapping and sure enough she was helping herself. She is one of the kissiest boxers so far that I have met. I love the way she rests her head in the crook of your arm when she wants attention. I believe she is used to people food, she hangs around the table if we are eating and we are working on getting her to lay down. She is a sniffer/surfer of table etc. but has not removed anything yet. She has no problems getting into her crate or sharing the bed with Tony. I let Tony up first. She is a good girl and is going to make a family complete. I would say she needs training. She knows sit but can be stubborn when it comes to come when she is interested in other things. She also likes her treats.

11/19/04 - Well Brandy is here in her new foster home in Rome, NY. She is very friendly. She seems to be good with everyone. I have kept her on her leash for the past 6 days. She has not had any accidents in the house. She is hot and cold with Tony the resident boxer. Sometimes they lay together fine and other times if he walks by her she goes after him. The were running outside yesterday for a little while. They were pretty comical jumping over each other. Sometimes I think she goes after him when she is startled or surprised by him. He is real laid back. I have to say when she goes out and has to pee she starts out squatting and then starts moving along until she is done. Its funny to watch, I have never seen a dog do that before. Other than she would be better being the only dog in a home I can't find any other problem. She is full of kisses and she sits when asked. She will bark if someone comes in the door and then she is fine and in line for being pet. She adores my son. She likes to follow him around the
house. She is a talker too. If you are giving her attention and then quit she will give a small growl like she is saying keep petting me. Its startled us first but now we know that its harmless. She has been eating pretty well. She prefers Tony's food to hers and they are eating the same thing. I haven't been able to play outside with her for fear if I let her off the leash she may jump the fence. She did get away from me twice so far, the first time she finagled herself out of her collar and I only caught her when she stopped to go to potty. Tonight I was adjusting her collar and she got away and ran like heck along the fence line with the Shepard's on the other side. We had to be pretty funny looking, she was running past me and me trying to catch her leash. We had a good workout. So far she hasn't tried to jump the fence. She does like the furniture and is right at home. I truely feel she is going to be a great only pet for someone. She walks well on the leash too.

11/10/04 - Brandy has been doing well here, and has decided she loves my husband, Steve. She gets so happy
whenever he is around, and wiggles up a storm. They have formed a real bond. He is home this week, and whenever he goes outside to rake leaves, he brings her along. She clearly adores him. But she is also great with all of my family and friends. She loves attention! We have been using a tie-out cable outside with her if she is not being walked on the leash. This is because she can easily jump our fence, and there is too much temptation (such as birds, squirrels, etc.) for her to do so. We live on a very busy road, so I am not taking any chances. She has taken to playing with one of our slightly-deflated footballs, and enjoys carrying it in her mouth. Her appetite is much improved, and she is eating about 3 cups of dry food per day mixed with some canned, split into two feedings. She sheds a lot, so I have begun brushing her, which she does not seem to mind. This is one sweet girl. She would love to be part of a family to call her own. Are you that family?

11/8/04 - I have been learning a lot about Brandy in these past couple of days. She has many wonderful qualities, such as she is fully housebroken, great in the crate, and very sweet and loveable with her people. As far as humans are concerned, she seems to love everyone she meets, young and old. Her nub wags and she does a cute wiggle when she sees you or you come into the room. Other dogs, however, are another story. She cannot seem to make up her mind about my Sophie. There have been times where Brandy has tolerated her presence, but other times she has gone after her. For both of their sakes, I have been keeping them apart. She also has made it known in no uncertain terms that she does not like my neighbors' dog either. She will defintely need a home with no other pets. Brandy is also very athletic and can easily jump a four foot fence. She likes to run and likes to play with stuffed toys and play tug-of-war. But I think her favorite thing to do is cuddle up with her family. Do you think you could be that special family? If so, get your applications in soon. She'll be waiting for you...

11/7/04 - Brandy arrived at my home today and is proving herself to be a very sweet girl. She was understandably nervous and confused about where she was, but had nothing but wiggles and kisses for us. She and Sophie seem to be getting along well so far, but Brandy much prefers the company of my pot-bellied pigs! She keeps jumping into their pen and trying to get them to play. They however, are not amused. LOL Brandy really likes to cuddle and be petted. She did not eat very much today, but I am hoping once she is more settled in, her appetite will return. Right now, she is resting comfortably in the living room with Sophie and my husband. Oh, and I forgot to mention, she is just beautiful! With her super sweet personality, she will not be here long. Get your applications in quickly!
