9/2/05 - Kaylah surprised me with a new game she likes to play. It's called "Get the kitty". We have a stuffed cat that actually belongs to my puppy, but Kay loves to play with it. I take her out in the back yard and I throw the cat. But she waits till I say "Get the kitty!" Then she goes after it and brings it back and kind of throws it back up to me. We have had her just shy of a year and she was never taught the boundaries of our yard, she seemed to just know. We've never had to train her with our invisible fence. I also have a 5 month old kitten named Alexa and they get along wonderfully. Alex and Kay sleep in my bed and Alex loves to use Kay as a pillow.
We are hoping to adopt Tanner this weekend if everything is ok with him. We decided that it would be better to bring Kaylah on the trip with us so that way he wont be as scared and will already have one meeting down. He'll still have to meet the kitten, my puppy and our 13 yr old spaniel when he gets home, but I don't think the 13 yr old will care much, maybe a couple sniffs and that's it.
Kaylah just had a complete blood work done and we found that she is in completely perfect health.  Absolutely nothing is wrong with her and she has a very strong heart. We had to have the blood work done because she had diarrhea for about a week and it just wouldn't go away. She was put on something like human Imodium and a UTI was found, so she had some antibiotics for that, but everything else is perfect. We are looking forward to many more years with her.   Thanks BAR!

5/18/05 - Today was Kay's first visit to the Lilac Festival! For everyone who is not a Rochesterian or has never heard of it, each year in May we have a festival in a beautiful park, in the city of Rochester, that is covered in all kinds of Lilac trees and bushes. It lasts for about 10 days. The community really gets together and no one goes just once...it's a wonderful tradition we have here. We decided that Kaylah probably never went to any kind of huge gathering before and we decided to see how she would do. Of course, she was a perfect, beautiful lady. People commented on her size (she is 75 pounds), bust mostly it was nothing but "she's so beautiful". That she most definitely is.
There were a few ignorant people who saw her white face and said how old she was, but really I don't think 9 is old. We have a 13 year old and I don't even think she's old. Age is a state of mind.
She had her first taste of kettle corn, which she just licked, she refused a piece of cotton candy, but she did like her piece of fried dough. She's allowed to be spoiled with people food once in a while. It was a sunny 60 degree day, so we kept her there for about 3 hours. She thoroughly enjoyed it. Then she came home and slept for another 3 hours! We only decided to bring her this year. Our 13 yr old just is not into leaving her spot on the couch, my Cocker/King Charles is unfriendly with people she doesn't know and my pit bull isn't very people friendly either yet, but he was a personal rescue and it'll take some time with him. Kaylah thoroughly enjoyed herself and I enjoyed having her there with me.

4/17/05 - Just wanted to let everyone know that Kay is still doing wonderful! We feel as if we have had her instead of the other way around. Yes, we took her into our home and saved her from the illness that almost took her life, but she has given us more than we could ever imagine. SHE trained our puppy to potty outside, she is the "mediator" between the other three dogs, she brings so many wonderful antics, memories, smiles and laughs to our family. We love to show her off to our neighbors when they comment us on how calm and EXTREMELY well behaved she is. She honestly is the light in my life and I know that when I'm lonely or upset about something, she KNOWS, and is always there to give me some lovin'. Just the way she gently places her paw on my shoulder or my lap, or just sits very close to me so I can lean on her shoulder is amazing. The bond we have with her is so strong that I don't think any amount of miles or time could change that. Her beauty (inside and out) just brings tears to my eyes. God had something in mind when he made her, she is just that special. He made us an angel.

3/8/05 -Just a quick line to brag about Kaylah's full recovery from her mastitis! She still has a few more days on her antibiotics, but her nipple is completely flat, just like it was before. That means NO cancer!! We are so thrilled. What a trooper I have. Thanks to all who offered support and advice during the week of immense anticipation.

3/2/05 - Well, Miss Kaylah gave us quite a scare Sunday. I came home from work early to find one of Kay's nipples swollen and hard. When I went to look at it, it pretty much exploded blood and puss. I called the vet, who I work for, and asked the doctor to come back and have a look. We tested a piece of skin that had come out of there under the microscope and found all the cells pointed to infection. So she is on 750 mg of Cephalexin 2x a day. The infection is called mastitis. If it doesn't go away, she'll have to go back in for some chest x-rays and if it shows her lungs are clear of any tumors, she'll have some surgery to remove the nipple and the adjacent ones. It has gone down
considerably though and I hot pack it 5-6 times a day. So we'll just sit back and hope for the best. After seeing what breeding has done to this innocent little angel, I will never ever breed any dog I have in the future. Spaying and neutering before maturity is so important in animal health. There are so many homeless animals in shelters and rescues that people should go to these places before
looking to a breeder. I just pray she will be fine. She is my angel and we love her more than anything. My 3 other dogs would miss her something terrible if anything happens to her.
She is also up to 71 pounds...biiiig girl!!!!

2/6/05 - Kaylah has learned a new trick! She can now open the refrigerator! She won't do it in front of any of us, but you can leave the room for 2 seconds and when you come back, the door is wide open and she is standing in front of it. It's so hilarious. She doesn't steal any food, she just looks. So, now when we leave, we have to put the garbage can on the stove and put a rolled up newspaper
through the handles on the fridge. She also taught my pit bull an irrestible tactic for getting a cookie. When Kaylah wants something, most likely a cookie, she will stand in front of you and whine louder and louder with each breath. She'll take her paw and rub at your leg. And now her and Polo will stand together doing it until you get up and give them their cookies. What dolls.
Because of Kaylah's excessive breeding by her former owner, she had lost most of her teeth (due to insufficient calcium for the developing pups, her body took it from her teeth) but was able to do fine with hard food, cookies and the occasional bone. Last week she lost another tooth. I brought her to work with me and had the doctor look at her. He suggested that we only feed her highly moist food with canned food mixed with a tiny bit of hard food. Boy, I think she enjoys this diet much better than her hard food only.
This dog is just wonderfully amazing. She is such a joy.

1/14/05 - Christmas was great for Kaylah!! She got so many presents from Santa, she didn't know what to do with them all!! A week or so before Christmas, I inherited my fourth dog. A 2 yr old silver pit bull named Polo. These 2 are the best of friends. Kaylah finally has someone her own size to box around! Kaylah loooooooves to go to work with me, which also happens to be her vet!! Everyone loves to have her visit. She's a very popular little girl.  She is laying next to me, just snoring away. I just love her!!

12/15/04 - Kaylah is doing amazing! When we first got our new baby, she was very very sick. After several visits to the vet and a surgery, she is as good as new.
It took Kaylah no time at all to adjust to our home. She plays with our ten month old King Charles/Springer spaniel as if it were her own puppy. She sleeps all day with our 12 year old Springer/Brittany spaniel. Kaylah is the most loveable dog. When we come home she gets so excited she folds herself in half and just shakes her tail like crazy, she even looks as if shes smiling. Recently it has begun to snow in our hometown of Chili, New York and she loves to go out on our deck and play with the puppy in the snow.
I am looking forward to Kaylah's first Christmas with us. She will have lots of presents under the tree. We believe Kaylah knows she is home now. I love her with all my heart and I am so glad we found her and gave her another chance at life.

10/29/04 - Kala has been adopted.

10/24/04 - Kala is pending adoption

10/20/04 - Kala is a nice friendly girl, and she gets along great with our Bruno.  She acts much younger than her age.  She likes to play tug of war with Bruno.  Kale also loves to go on long walks in the part.  She is going to make someone a great pet.

9/6/04 - We took Kala and Bruno to see their cousins, Moca and Java in Conn.  They are both standard poodles and when Kala met her new cousins, they got along great. Now here we are going to a state park in a van with 4 dogs, 3 kids, and 4 adults.   Kala used Java as a pillow, Java used Bruno  - what a sight!  And Moca threw up.  It was some trip. Kala is doing fine and I would guess she can get along well with all breeds.

8/16/04 - Kala is a brindle female with silver white markings and is a small lady about 45 lbs or so.  She has cropped ears and is spayed and up-to-date on her vaccinations.  Personality wise she is a real sweetheart.  She likes absolutely everyone she meets. She has met our 13 and 10 yr old grandchildren and is just fine with them.  She has also met a 4 yr. old neighbor's child and was fine with the younger child also.  She and our male Boxer are getting along very well.  The only things she does not like to well are cats, so we would suggest a home with no kitties.  Kala is completely house trained and whines to go out.  When she first arrived she didn't walk too well on a leash, but now we are using a harness on her and she is much better.  We can walk both dogs together with no problem now.  Without the harness she was hard to control especially if she saw a squirrel!  But she is getting better every day.  If you are looking for a little older, calmer girl who is a delight and just loves everyone, Kale is the girl for you.

8/7/04 - Kala has arrived in BAR rescue.  She was temporarily being housed at a training facility as we waited for a foster home to become available.  Now we have a foster home who has just returned from vacation and have taken Kala into their home.
