9/5/05 - Well we are going on a year now with Max, all is well except for two issues.  Those are he doesn't like the Vet and seems to really dislike being boarded... That being said he is a excellent addition to the family and we love him so very much.

4/4/05 - Everything is still great with Max! He's only been with us for 6 months, but it feels like we've had him forever. He was the perfect addition to our family. He and Pebbles have so much fun together. They love to chase each other around outside and there are no issues between them. He is always waiting either at the gate or at the door when we pull into the driveway and is so happy to see us come home. He does the boxer wiggle dance and the "woo-woo-woo" noises. Max is just a great dog and we are so grateful for everyone's help in our adoption of him.

1/2/05 - Since we last wrote, Max's ear has healed. The infection is gone and he seems much happier. He did good throughout the holidays. He went to both grandparents' houses and got bones at both places, so he was a happy doggy. We used to have a bit of a problem with him coming to us when we called him, but now he is right by our side the first time we call him. Max loves to whine when he wants our attention or when he gets excited about something and Pebbles is a barker, so we have a very noisy house when our dogs get worked up! They are both such a delight though that we wouldn't have it any other way.

12/5/04 - Max had to go to the vet this weekend. We were concerned about his eyes being really runny recently, but it turned out that his eyes were fine and he has an ear infection instead. Poor Max! He did well with everyone at the vet's office...except the vet. He growled and didn't want the vet to go near him. Max was really good with the vet tech though, who absolutely adored him. The vet gave us some pills for Max and he has to have a cream rubbed in his ear for the next two weeks. Pebbles has been taking good care of him. She gives him lots of kisses and they still have tons of fun running around in the yard together.

11/1/04 - Max has been with us for a month now and we couldn't imagine life without him. The sleeping situation has gotten better. He is learning to sleep at our feet or stays out on the couch at night. Max has found a new favorite toy: a deflated basketball. He likes to put his whole face into it when he tries to pick it up. Today was a little muddy and our white dog very quickly obtained a black mask!

10/13/04 - Max went for his check up at the vet today. He did great! Everyone in the waiting room loved him. He was such a sweetie and gave everyone he met kisses. The vet said he looked really good and had no concerns. The only issue we've had with Max so far is taking up more than his share of the bed! Last night, he stole the covers and had mom sleeping diagonally, so he and Pebbles may be getting kicked off the bed very soon!

10/9/04 - Max continues to do well. He loves playing outside in the yard with Pebbles. She has taught him the fine art of begging...or rather, staring at Mom and Dad until they give in and FEED US!! He has been great so far. We'll be taking him to the vet soon, just so they can get acquainted. We'll let you know how that goes...

10/2/04 - As I write this, peebles and max are playing playing playing!!!  He has taken to the family instantly...it feels like he has always been here.  He slept in the bed with us...thank goodness we have a queen, for two people and two dogs make a cozy situation...lol... we are going to petsmart today...for treats and such...more later

10/1/04 - Well, Max was supposed to go home this morning, but there was a change of plans. The couple who adopted him decided that they couldn't wait and decided to come last night!
As soon as they walked in it was love at first sight on both sides. He stayed right by their side the whole time they were here, giving kisses, leaning on them and they loved it as much as he did. I miss him a lot, he was a great foster. I've said that the whole time I've had him it's been like taking a break from fostering because he was so good. Thanks for sharing him with me for a while. I know he's going to make his new family as happy as he made all of us.

9/28/04 - Max is pending adoption

9/20/04 - We love having Max here. He has been the best, we really were expecting a dog that was going to be more of a challenge, but he has done so well. He loves my children and my dog. He is so funny, we have hardwood floors and when he goes to lay down, if there's even a sock or a washcloth on the floor that's where he chooses to rest!
It's hilarious to watch him play with his toys in the yard, throwing then and growling and whining at them. You sure showed that stuffed frog, Max! Way to go, buddy!

9/12/04 - Well, we have an interesting development with Max. I think he's a fence jumper. We were in the driveway and he and my dog were in the back yard, then Max was right there with us. The gate was shut and it's totally fenced, no way he could have snuck out and he didn't dig under it, so that leaves only one option. He's still doing well otherwise, just waiting for his new family to find him. He's really comfortable here and everyone loves him, with the possible exception of the mailman. My dog has never been a fan of the mailman and Max has really picked up on that. They bark and seem awfully proud of themselves when he moves on to the next house. ;-) Also, we had him out and about today on the leash and found that he could really use some work on the leash. He's just so excited about this smell and that smell... He's such a cuddler and when he can't find a person to cuddle with he curls up with my dog. Max really is a great dog without any major issues... and have I mentioned how HANDSOME he is?

9/7/04 - Max really did well this weekend. We were out of town for a few days and since I didn't think he was really ready for a kennel stay so soon after having his lump removed I decided to leave him at home with my dog and have a dog sitter come. Everything was great. Still no accidents, no destructive behavior, he's really good. As long as he has company he's great. His leg is healing nicely, he doesn't bother with it and is out of the E-collar for good. He has taken to sleeping with my daughter at night and she loves it. It's really been a pleasure having Max here, we'll miss him when he does go to his new adoptive home but we're all really glad to have him while we still do.

9/2/04 - Max had his surgery yesterday to remove the red lump on his leg. He is recovering nicely, I think his leg is the least of his worries compared to the E-collar he has to wear! He's a favorite at my vet's office, they always compliment his great temperament and striking good looks. So, he finally met my cat and the results are in.... drum roll please.... They love each other! Once my cat finally got up the nerve to let Max near him everything went well, not so much as a hiss from the Cosmo, who is a notorious nose swatter. Everyone who has met him loves him, including all of us here. We never see sings of separation anxiety anymore because he doesn't get crated, he's left loose in the house with my dog and Dutch is enough to keep Max company. He's NEVER had an accident in the house and never been destructive or anything like that, atypical of dogs with separation anxiety. Again, I think the perfect home for him will be one very similar to mine where someone is home most of the time and when they're not he needs a dog to keep him company. He doesn't mind if it's a male or a female... he's been great with both. So, here he is. A sweet, handsome, house trained, non-destructive young boy who gets along beautifully with adults, children, other dogs and cats who just wants to be with you. I think that just about says it all

8/25/04 - Max is still doing well here. He is really great with the kids and with my dog. He's still being left out of the crate when I have to run out. We have had no reason to crate him and he really doesn't like it. I think that the perfect forever home for Max is going to be one where someone is home most of the time and one that has another dog that can keep him company when the people are out. I can't say enough great things about him. We all love him and every time we go on a walk people always stop to check him out. He is really a gorgeous boy and no one can get over those eyes! It seems like the only down side to fostering Max is that he won't be here long! He's ready when you are, what are you waiting for?

8/24/04 - Another great day with Max! He was fantastic last night, he slept in our room and we never heard a peep out of him. I haven't been crating him because it really seems to be unnecessary. He's proven to be totally house trained and hasn't shown any interest in anything that doesn't belong to him. I have left him alone a few times, once he was crated and when we got back 30 minutes later he was soaked with saliva. I had heard that this wasn't unusual for him, so I have decided that until proven otherwise he's fine to be left out of the crate. I don't want him to be any more stressed than he has to be.
He went to the vet this a.m. and he looks great. They are checking into a red bump on the inside of his back leg, but otherwise he's in great shape and really turned heads while we were there. His eyes are so striking, one blue and one brown... I'm trying to get a great picture, but it's hard. Every time I get down to his level with the camera, he goes into kissey face mode! I'll do my best.
He has been the best behaved foster I've had yet. He is said to have seperation anxiety, and has shown some signs of it here, but only when crated. I think that Max would love to have another dog with him in his forever home, he may need that reassurance. We all really love having him here, even the grumpy old man (Dutch, my male boxer) is acting a few years younger. Max is just one of those dogs that you can't help but be happy and smile when you see him. He's going to make some family so happy, is it yours?

8/23/04 - WOW!!! Max is such a good house guest! When I got him I heard that he didn't really love being left alone and that he wasn't overly fond of the crate. Well, I crated him when we got home after some potty and play time in the back yard, he was nice and quiet for about and hour and then I let him out again. At dinner he was great, not circling like a shark under my toddlers high chair like some other boxer that lives here ;-), he was a perfect gentleman. He really responds well to the children, and they adore him. He met my male boxer and they were great together. He saw my cat for about 10 seconds before he hissed and ran into the basement, he's not as welcoming as my boxer is, so I won't know if Max is ok with cats for a while! Later he came in and watched nicely as I gave the kids their bath, only getting up to sneak a drink of water from the tub, which they all thought was hysterical! Then at bedtime I tried crating him, but he got really stressed really fast so I decided to chance it and see how he'd do out of the crate overnight. He was great, he laid down at first in his crate with the door open and when we got up at about 8:00 this morning he was sound asleep on the sleeping bag in my daughters room. Nothing was out of it's place, no accidents... Then I had to run out for about half an hour and decided to really go for it and leave him out of his crate while I was gone, and when I got home there was nothing out of place, and I had (accidentally) left out shoes... but everything was just as I had left it. There were a few splashes of saliva by the windows, but I feel comfortable enough to leave him out when I run to the drycleaners later. He's a really good boy. Tomorrow he goes to the vet for a quick once over, he seems to be in great health. I'll keep you posted!

8/22/04 - Hello!!  We just got back with Max and he is so sweet.  He's been a little down, looking for his family.  But I'm sure
he'll settle in nicely. He rode really nicely in the car, pranced around the yard and is resting quietly in his crate right now.  I'll have new pictures of Max coming soon.  Thanks so much to Bev for meeting me with him and everyone else who helped get him into foster care
