2/19/05 - Well, it's been three months since we officially brought Kaiser into our lives. It seems like he has been a part of our family forever. To quote John Wagner, from the American Kennel Club site "The Boxer has a faculty of worming his way into the good graces and the hearts of an entire household. He seems to offer something special to each person he meets." That's exactly what Kaiser has meant to all of us. He's a "fur brother" to our boys, ages 18 and 20; a playmate to our other fur babies; a son to my husband; and a baby to me. My husband and I both take him to his Canine Good Citizenship classes, where he will graduate into his Certified Therapy Dog classes next week. We celebrated his second birthday with Frosty Paws. His former mom had told me that he loved them, so I bought some for him and as soon as he saw the package, he started whining and running around. He recognized the box! He is a very happy boy and we still can't believe that he's ours! I'll send photos of his birthday and with him playing with his friends.

12/7/04 -It's been 1 1/2 weeks since Kaiser is officially ours. We've had five fosters in our home and have loved all of them, but I knew the minute Kaiser jumped in my car that I wanted him to be ours. He is just the sweetest, energetic boy who has made such a difference in our lab, Penny's life. They just love each other. We were getting worried about Penny, who is 6 and has arthritis. She really didn't want to do much, except eat and lay around. Well, all that's changed. In the past three weeks that Kaiser has been in our home, Penny is now playing tag like a puppy. If she's tired, Kaiser will stand on top of her with a rope toy and just keeps dropping it on her head until she plays with him. He loves rides in the car, going for walks and especially LOVES running around the yard. Oh, and he loves sweet potatoes. He helps himself from the basket in the kitchen and chews on them like a bone. We tried to trick him and put a couple of white potatoes in the basket, but he will only pick out the sweet potatoes. Just having him here puts a smile on all of our faces. We all love him so much!

11/28/04 - Kaiser has been adopted

11/27/04 - Kaiser is pending adoption

11/21/04 - I know it's been too long since my last update on our sweetie, Kaiser. We've been having such a good time with him that he's taken up all of my free time being with him. He's giving me a break today because it's a rainy day and he's taken a real liking to the fireplace...So much has happened in the short time he's been here.
An example of "a day in the life of Kaiser" is that he gets up early with us, goes for a walk, has breakfast with his fur brothers and sisters, engages his fur foster sister in a free-for-all wrestling match, then heads upstairs with me for a day in the office. He has a basket that he loves and just curls up like a cat in there and snoozes the day away, except for when someone comes in and he give everyone his cute little wiggle and nuzzle and then back to his basket. Then off for a long walk and then maybe a ride to do errands to the bank, P.O., etc. Then dinner and more playtime with either Penny, or his new boxer friend, Sienna, who has been here for a play date twice this week. The evening usually consists of sleeping in front of the fireplace with everyone, just hanging out, or more playtime with Penny or us. Sounds kind of nice doesn't it? Well, just when you think he's absolutely perfect, I need to say that there are two areas when this little guy needs a little direction...one is that he is a very picky eater and it takes some imagination to get him to eat his entire bowl without walking around and being distracted. He's rather thin so we need to constantly work on his food thing. He also some food/environment allergies which affect his stomach and skin. He's on a special diet and he seems to be doing fine with it. The other thing is that being a baby, he doesn't like to be left alone. We've been crating him when we're not home, but he's not happy about it. He's still too young to be left on his own in the house when we're away, so we've been working on distractions when he's in there...We'll keep you updated on his progress with that.
For a 1 1/2 yr. old bouncing boxer baby boy, we think he's pretty awesome. I promise to update again soon.

11/13/04 - Kaiser has just arrived! His family made the very difficult decision to give him up because originally his Mom was home most of the time with him and now, because of health issues and changes in her schedule, is away from home for several hours a day. Kaiser has not been happy being left alone and has exhibited some separation issues. He is one very sweet boy. He's currently running all over the house, catching up on all of the different smells of our house...I'm sure he'll be so happy to learn that there are all kinds of full kids here to play with, but we won't be introducing them until tomorrow. We want him to be settled and comfortable here first. We'll post photos and more updates in a couple of days. Stay tuned.
