12/29/05 - Our boy Diesel is is still doing great.  As I said previously, he trains very easily and picks up on things very fast.  He is housebroken and always lets us know when he has to go out, and with the amount of water he drinks, he makes alot of trips outside.  Diesel had a good time in the snow jumping up and down at the snowflakes, just like his brother.  He has become a bit of a chewer and has ripped up his doggy pillow once or twice.  But he seems to know its wrong and drops it when you tell him.  We tried to get a picture of Diesel with a huge piece of white pillow stuffing in his mouth, but he dropped it too quick.  It was a priceless shot.  Diesel also likes to use the pieces of our wooden nativity set for chew toys.  A few times we thought he was chewing on one of his nylabones, but guess what it really was. Oh well, only minor problems. He sleeps through the night now without getting up to play with Diamond and is in no hurry to go out in the morning.  There have been some days he slept until 8:00 - 9:00 or so.  No health problems at all and he is putting on weight nicely.  Both boys play very vocally together and will go on for what seems like hours.  Maybe that's why they both sleep so well. That's about all for now.  Thanks.

11/24/05 - Diesel is doing just fine.  He and Diamond play all day and Diamond still is the 1st to tire out and quit, which we never thought would be possible. They sleep on their pillows in our bedroom.  Most nights, he will sleep until either of us gets up in the morning.  Once in a while, he gets up and wants to play with Diamond in the middle of the night.  He likes to nip at Diamond's leg to get him to play.  Only one or two accidents so far, usually he will bark to go out.  We are starting
to work on his training which he does respond to quickly.  He will now sit before he comes in from outside rather than jump to try and open the door, which is what he did when he first arrived. He is learning very fast how to walk on the leash properly without any pulling and he is grudgingly learning to lay down and stay.  Diesel is such a big boy, we forget that he is less than a year old. He is also eating very well and slowly putting more weight on. All in all, Diesel is a very happy boy, his tail wags constantly and really fast, and he has become a big part of his new family here in New Jersey.

11/14/05 - Diesel has been adopted by his foster-to-adopt family.

10/31/05 - Diesel spent the first week of his rescued life with us, here at The Mama Lady's Boxer Retreat.  lol  I don't even know  his BAR tag # as Gary put it on him and had all the paper work that came with him.

Diesel was such an excellent guest, even tho' his first 2 days there were accidents in the house.  Diesel was/is one of the best  fosters that we had here. After the first 2 days, he felt the love and affection and attention that we were showering on him and it showed...BIG TIME! Totally different dog on the 3rd day. He started feeling good about himself, where he was and how his days & nights were going to be.......spent in love. His goofy personality started to shine thru and I am here to tell you...a LAUGH a minute with this sweet boy! As I wrote to someone (lawd help my mind for remembering who) Diesel was a side show all on his own. Saturday morning the boyz, Diesel & Porche wound up in my bed with me, just goofing around and everyone was belly laughing at Mr. Diesel's antics in play. We all agreed that Diesel was the most personable foster we had had so far. We all loved to just watch his goofiness, his sideways dances, his playing (like they knew each other for their whole lives) with Porche. Even Diesel thinking he might be able to entice my BIG boy Bogey to come box & play!  NOT! Bogey is an old man and he can't keep up with these Boxer youngins'! Diesel showing his playful side with toys, balls - too funny. Diesel has a super soul, a loving soul. He showed you that with his head butts into your belly and the LEAN into you, his way of hugging you. The goofy way he would only put his upper half on the bed and patiently wait for you to lift his lower end up. He sometimes would just stay like that, 1/2  on  1/2 off and snuggle up against you.
I am SO grateful that I said yes to Gary to take him in....we would have missed out on a very special boy! The week he was here, he fit in like he was part of our lives from birth. Just the lil' character he is. We were blessed to have the opportunity to show him for the very first time in his short life  what love really is......and it made him shine. What a beautiful boy! He has been blessed as well...heck, the first night he was featured under "For adoption" Tom came across his picture and description and immediately started to ask about him. Tom & I had a few phone conversations and he was smitten. Tom and his family have decided to Foster To Adopt.....just in case, as they have Diamond who they adopted from BAR Feb. 2004, so the match had to be good for Diamond as well. Diesel seemed a little nervous when it was time to go with Tom on Sunday, but.......he gave Tom SO many hugs & kisses when he first walked thru the door, I kinda knew it was meant to be. The house is very quiet without Mr. Diesel, but the memories will always be ours. God bless you Diesel, you certainly deserved...to be found by the Angels!
Thank you BAR  for giving us the opportunity to have this gorgeous boy with us for that week. I am very glad, again...that I said "Sure, o.k. Gary...we can take him in for a week."  :o}  It went by so quickly......too quickly really  but.......Tom and I spoke last night & Diesel is fitting in their family just as smoothly and nicely. All very good stuff!
Don't forget my pictures Tom!  Thanx!              Debby, Jesse, Scott, Bogey & Porche

10/30/05 - Diesel is now in the Foster -to-Adopt Program.  Wish him luck!
Hi everyone, I wanted to let you all know that Diesel had a perfect trip home to Long Valley, NJ.  He laid down in the front seat and put his head on my coat, which was on the center console.  He would look up every once in a while, but otherwise slept most of the trip of 2 hours.

He and Diamond became acquainted very quickly and the two of them played on and off most of the afternoon.  Diamond may have met his match, he tired before Diesel.  Speaking of Diesel, my kids and neighbors think we should change his name to "Mugs", but I'm not so sure.  Any opinions?
They both ate separately, Diesel is a much slower eater than Diamond and we have had no problems so far. Diesel actually pushed Diamond out of the way while they were both drinking from the water bowl and Diamond stood back and waited. He has made several trips outside to do his business and no accidents since we arrived.
Thank you all for your help and we will keep you posted on how he is doing.

10/24/05 - His name is Diesel....yes, the boyz named him.  I had him answering to Marker.....as his "stripes" are so pronounced he looked like he had a run in with a Magic Marker but um...the boyz won out. My Jesse says his face his SOOO smooshed in that he looks like the bulldog on the Mack truck. hence,  Diesel

He definitely needs IMMEDIATE nutrition attention. Every single bone imaginable sticks out of him. Skin & bones, very sad that he could have possibly lived with humans and be in this shape.
I am giving him as much food as he wants, when he wants it. Gary gave me some food that has Maximum Calories, so in no time, he will put on the much needed weight. He has a VERY good appetite so that will help tremendously.
Diesel gets along with EVERYONE here..he is a love bug. He just needs to be shown that his love is wanted and looked forward to.   Sweet, sweet lil' kisses.   He & Porche are already buddies but I have to keep him quiet as he did manage to pop a stitch in his neuter site but it is all fine now.   I realized how he did it too, when he first got to the house, I let him outside to walk with him & goofy him fell off the side of the porch, back legs first, so he basically slammed his "parts" against the stoop. He is just fine now.
Diesel does have serious potty issues in the house. Even when I have just brought him out and he has gone outside and I praised him & gave him good lovin'...he came in & went on my floor. He has actually done both in the house several times since last night, so I am working on this very diligently.  He is going to need training. I am thinking he will need to "unlearn" the negative reactions that he has gotten in the past & learn that discipline can be given with love. He seems to freeze up when he knows he has done wrong and I am not so sure he is really grasping the lesson then.
BUT......*big smile........he REALLY is a beautiful, sweet, loving, energetic, fine specimen of a Boxer  boy. He will shine once he knows he will not be hurt. He is going to make a lot of smiles on the faces of those that choose him for their Forever boy!
I am going to try my best to get a fecal sample to my Vet tomorrow, as that is all he needs. Also, he will be given his heartworm treatment tomorrow night.
He's a beauty....don't let the pictures fool you, you have to "meet" the personality that goes with that smooshed up face!
More later..

10/23/05 - Here is BAR's newest foster guy.  His permanent foster home will be naming him very soon.  Poor boy, he has had some beginning to his short life. His foster home is now his 3rd home, and that is not counting the stay at the shelter. This poor boy was owned for about 5 months, and the owner couldn't keep him, so they gave him away to someone else. Those people kept him for a whole month before they decided he had housetraining issues, and dumped him in a kill shelter. Nice commitment to this boy, huh? Luckily for him, this shelter works with Boxer Angels Rescue often, and immediately called us to come and get him. He was neutered and brought up to date, and out he came.
He stayed at the Wings & Halo Haven for a nights stay till his foster mommy could take him in. This boy is an absolute beauty, with a personality to match. Shocking sad how skinny he is, considering he was an owner surrender. He looks like a dog that we often see that has been on the streets for weeks, having to fend for themselves. Very sad, but it also tells me even more about what must have been a pretty miserable month with his "new" mom and dad. There is no reason for him to look like this except for GROSS neglect.

Anyway, he rod in the care ride home beautifully, not a peep, and we took him for a walk around the neighborhood. He was terrific on the leash, no pulling, and we did not even have a choker on him. No correction necessary. He was sharing a room with an American bulldog rescue that was pulled on the same day, and I decided to feed them about 5 feet apart as part of my temperament test (leashes on, of course :o)). The American bulldog was not quite as hungry as he was so she stopped eating and wandered over to his bowl, to which he gave a small growl. Well, she was having nothing of that, and let him know under no uncertain terms she did not care for it. She lunged at him and barked aggressively (I was now holding her leash). Well, she sure scared the pants off of this boy, cause it took me 5 minutes to coax him back to his bowl (and he was starving), after I put her into her crate to calm down. He woofed down the rest of his food, (3 cups worth), so I gave him a bit more, (also testing his tolerances as I lifted his rear legs while he was eating and petting him, and he totally ignored me) and off for another walk. He did his business and I put him back in his crate and he settled down for the night.

Next morning, his crate was dry, we went in the yard this time to do his business, and then back in for 3 cups of kibble, which he devoured in no time flat.

Nice boy, we let him play with his American bulldog friend, and they were fine together. He has a very cute under bite, and a pretty "smushy" face. He loves the attention he got here for his short stay, and off to foster mom he went. She will bring you up to speed on how he did there.

All I can say is welcome to BAR, pretty boy, your best days lie ahead of you :o))
