1/15/06 - Hi all Mugsy here, just wanted to say hi to everyone and let you all know that I had a great Christmas with my new family. My sister Maya and I got a lot of great new toys to play with, and let me tell you we play all the time... My mom is taking me to doggie school. I'm learning so much. She is always telling me that I’m such a good boy. I'm trying really hard to do well at this school... After class we come home and try to teach my sister Maya the stuff I’m learning. Mom says she needs it more than I do, but I guess we both have a lot to learn to do. I just want everyone to know that I love my family so much and they love me too. They really must love us they let both my sister and me sleep in their bed. And sometimes mom wakes up with me on her pillow and I have all the covers. (he he he) I don’t think she likes it when I steel the covers but she understands that it takes me a while to find the best spot on the bed and I like to be warm at night too. We all end up laughing about it in the end. Anyway just wanted to say hi and show you some new pictures of me and my sister. Bye for now. -Mugsy-

12/5/05 - Well Lucky is doing great at our house. He is getting along great with our other boxer Maya. They play all the time. Oh I should also say that we have changed his name to Mugsy. He seems to like the new name. His food change over went well at his foster home, and now that he is at our house he is doing great with food. He is such a love bug. if he could he would sit and sleep on the couch with me for hours.. But Maya will not hear of that, she wants to play all the time. So Mugsy only gets to rest a little bit of the time, then it’s off the play. And they love going on walks together. We took them to this park near by the house on sat and they just loved it... it was a little cold so we didn't stay out to long. But they both slept great that night. I just want to say thank you to everyone who helped us get this great dog. He has brought such joy to our house.

11/27/05 - Well we picked Lucky up yesterday, and he is doing great. Oh we changed his name to Mugsy. He and
our other dog are getting along great. They play all the time. We just want to thank everyone who helped us get Mugsy. He is a great dog, and I’m sure I’ll have more to say about him as the months go by... Thanks again...

11/26/05 - Lucky has been adopted

11/9/05 - Lucky is pending adoption.

11/7/05 - It's been 9 days since Lucky's arrival. I'm goin to give you the good, bad and the ugly!!! Juuust kidding. What a great little velvet moosh face! His pictures don't do him justice...he looks so serious and much older than his young 9 months. But in real life, he still has that adorable puppy look about him, right down to the pouty lower lip...just to die for! We took the weekend off with the long downs, but he was once again very obedient. We've moved the downs into the living room so there is added distraction.
He was perfect 25 minutes into it, until Spanky decided he was jealous...nosing and nudging for ten minutes and picked a fight with JD behind me. Then and only then did he break his down. Very proud of him...went right back down to finish up the exercise. He is learning stay, and off. His problem areas are countersurfing, table begging and a very  strong desire to bolt when going from inside out or visa-versa. He's fine if the other dogs are with him. I feel he needs a very secure yard, and, or, a companion to play himself silly with!!
Never had a Boxer that wants to snuggle as much as this boy!! He loves to worm his way onto your lap, or squeeze his way between whatever is preventing him from touching you. He loves human contact. Seeing that he had never been crated before, he is wonderful. Will go in for his quiet time. We've also brought him upstairs at night, and does not attempt to get on the bed unless invited for a cuddle. He's eating very well and have no issues with his allergies. I was able to give him his injection with no problems. He has maybe 3 left to go. What a wonderful boy he is!! He's picking up very quickly on his training and learning not to mess with top dog Harley, or  to wake up JD (my deaf boy) when he's sound asleep...grrr! Other than waiting for his paper work for his neuter, he's good to go, Don't miss out on this special guy. Outside of his expected puppy nonsense (he's getting a good foundation for obedience here)
Lucky's all about love, love, love!!!

11/1/05 - Lucky has really made himself comfortable here, so much so, that I started obedience training yesterday. He's got no clue about pack leader or pack order. Thinks he'll just get by on his "cuteness"!! He has a great disposition and seems very sound. No aggression, but definitely feeling his oats, as a 9 month old Boxer boy! He's flexing his muscles big time.
He'll be neutered soon, which should help. But I feel it's all about teaching him some manners and who is the pack leader combined with the hormones emerging. Not to worry...we had our first real "challenge" Monday. I look back now and laugh, but it wasn't funny at the time. For some reason, he doesn't like to be led into the house by his collar. Maybe my fault...should have had the lead, but he had bucked like a bronco previous with the lead anyway. Well, we both ended up on the ground and I was covered with mud and poop smeared all over. Thankfully, I work at home and was able to shower and change. He came out smelling like a daisy...not a hunk of mud or poop on HIM!!!   Sooooo, to make a long story, longer, I started AKC Obedience from page one. I knew it would be a challenge for him to start, but I also knew that he is very smart, stubborn, but very smart, we would be okay! Our first long down was very difficult. He did it!! I was so proud of him! We just finished our long down tonight, and what a difference! He let me do physical placement with no mouthing, and stayed next to me for the full 30 minutes, totally relaxed. Just with the 2 long downs
has totally changed his behavior. No more jumping, charging the door, counter surfing and mouthing. As long as I've been involved with AKC obedience, it never ceases to amaze me what "long downs" can do to settle a dog down, being relieved, and the channels for trust, love, safety and learning can begin. Lucky is just a great boy, and so reminds me of my first boy Jaeger. The "Boxerness" has not been bred out of him, which is a testament to him. Once again, I say...if I already didn't have three...........check him out...he's a love, snuggle bug, very responsive and eager to please, full of Boxer hugs and kisses. Forgot to mention that he is totally integrated with my 3 boys now, not as curious about the cat, and doesn't pull on the leash. Happy in his crate for the night and lets me know when he has to go out. Very High praise for a 9 month old!!!

10/30/05 - Meet Lucky, BAR's newest baby boy! I want to thank Stephanie for her help and the owners that had to surrender him. We could not have asked for a more generous surrender. What lovely people. They spared no expense on this boy. He got very sick right after they got him as a pup.  From what I can understand he was very near death. Originally his name was Spot, but they changed it to Lucky, as he was very lucky to pull through. He had a very rough road. You'd never know it now, thanks to all their loving care. He's a beautiful bouncing Boxer Boy. What a sweet face. He's a typical 9 month old...full of play and funny antics. He's been very well behaved. One tiny accident at first. He rode very well in the car. Explored the back yard, sniffing everything. Over the course of the afternoon yesterday, he met each of my 3 boys individually, without incident. He and JD played most of the day. Needless to say, it was a very quiet night! Lucky is getting used to the crate. It's all fluffed up with the bed the owners brought. He arrived fully supplied with 2 beds, toys and food galore, flea and heartworm meds, and even his toothbrush!!! We've moved his crate into the living room to provide a more positive environment for him and where my guys can get used to having him around.
Last night was a good night for a fire, so we all camped out in the living room. The dogs love it when we do that and I think Lucky enjoyed it too. He slept thru the night without a peep and the crate was dry.
Lucky does have some allergies. He seems to be stable on his present diet and will be completing his injections this month for certain weeds and grass. He takes his pills like a champ. He's a great guy. Any family will very "lucky" to get this boy...don't let his allergies deter you...most things are manageable. As you Boxer lovers know, we generally have to deal with one issue or another with this special breed, but it is ALWAYS way more worth it than the effort!! Check out more on Lucky soon. I'll get some pics of him today.
