10/18/08 - Where does the time go? I can hardly believe we have had Mya for a whole year already. It has been amazing the bond that her & Buster have created, & even more amazing was how quickly it happened. Now if you have to take one somewhere w/out the other one they go nuts when you put them back together, like they haven't seen each other for years! It is incredible to watch them together & see how happy they make each other, not to mention how happy we are to have both of them. I've said it before, but adopting is by far the best decision we have ever made! Thanks again to BAR

4/11/06 - It truly is amazing to me that it has only been just over 6 months since we picked Mya up. I feel like she has always been a part of our family and I can't imagine what life would be like with out her. She just fits in so perfectly. Mya and our other boxer Buster are the BEST of buddies...they box & chase each other all over the yard and after they have worn each other out they fall asleep on top of each other. They are so loving and playful not only w/each other but w/everyone in general. The experience of adopting a rescue (that I can't imagine how anyone was able to give her up because she is so sweet) is something that I will always cherish. Thanks again to BAR.

11/7/05 - It's hard to believe it's only been 1 month since we picked Mya up. She feels like she has always been part of our family, she just fits in perfectly. I have to say she is starting to not like the crate though. I think she knows Buster our other boxer has free roam of the house & she's jealous. So we are working on that. The other day she went to work w/me which was nice, everyone loved her.
As far as sleeping she has settled in comfortably on our king size bed. It's funny how everyone has their own spot. I was worried about getting a second dog & how she would fit in, now I can't even remember what it was like w/out her.

10/12/05 - Mya was even sweeter than we could have imagined. The pictures on-line really didn't do her justice. She was quite lucky to have the foster family that she did...they were obviously sad to see her go, but at the same time made us feel like we were Mya's perfect match. Deb's daughter even made a picture for Mya to take w/her.  She was glued to us as soon as we met her. The car ride home was long, but un-eventful. She slept w/her head on my lap most of the way. When we got home she had a brief introduction to our boxer, Buster & got a chance to check out the house. But what she really couldn't wait for was to run around the back yard. She slept soundly all night on Buster's bed & the next morning introductions between the 2 dogs started again. By that afternoon the 2 of them were running around the backyard & playing like they had known each other forever. Since then it has been nothing but crazy boxer play, followed by lots of naps, and of course tons of wiggles & kisses. This is definitely one of the best decisions we have ever made, and I am so glad we chose to
adopt.

10/6/05 - As we go through life....there are days that change our lives forever.  For MYA today is that very special day.   MYA met her forever family.  It was love at first sight.  I'm not sure who was more excited MYA or her new parents. Mya was full of wiggles & kisses for her new Mom & Dad. I do know that this family was meant to be.

Once Mya met her new parents she never left their side.  She was wonderful w/ them vise versa.  Her family was so well prepared for her... She went home w/ a new collar, harness, they even brought her already engraved name tag!!!  As she hopped into the car her new Mom fastened her securely into a doggie seat belt and Mom hopped in the back seat w/ MYA for the ride home.

As we said our good-byes to Mya she was very sweet and took time to give us each a last hug and thank you kisses.  Miss Mya has left her mark on our hearts.  We are so happy to have had the opportunity to love her and take care of her until this day .....when she starts living her "happily ever after".  You can look forward to reading future updates on this precious girl from her new family.

10/4/05 - We've had another wonderful week w/ Miss Mya and we're treasuring every moment.  Mya will be going to her forever home in a couple of days.  She is such a "sweetie-girl" as my 5 year old daughter calls her.  Mya is such a joy to have around.

Mya decided to play nurse-maid to my son yesterday.  He was home from school w/ a knee injury. As he lay on the couch w/ his knee elevated & crutches aside...Mya decided that it was her job to watch over him.  She would not leave him.....even when she would get tired and normally lay down for a nap I would find her standing near him....resting her head on the coffee table or near him on the couch. She pulled double duty.  She must have been exhausted because she went into her crate about an hour & 1/2 before her normal bed time and was still sleeping when we went to get her this morning. It really makes me wonder HOW they really know the difference between a child that's hurt and a child just watching TV.????

Mya knows that her family is coming for her.  I tell her everyday!!!  She's going to a wonderful home w/ a big brother.  She is going to love having a big brother!!! It is quite comical to watch Mya and our male boxer play in the yard.  They play until he is tired...she always tries to get him to play more.  Sometimes he just stands still and she continues to run.....many times she leaps over him like he's a hurdle. This girl runs very fast and she can leap like a deer.   I had mentioned early on in foster care that she leaped a single baby gate w/ ease and figured out how to get over 2 of them stacked on top of each other.   She makes us laugh every day.

We've grown very fond of Miss Mya.  She has added a lot of fun & laughs to our home.  Her new family is going to be so blessed.  She is a very special girl w/ a sweet & fun loving personality. We are certainly going to miss her. I'll update again on adoption day!!!

9/26/05 - Mya continues to enjoy life here in her Foster home.  Her days are filled with walks through the neighborhood, play time, fun romps in the yard w/ our Boxer and the kids.  She enjoys several naps during the day, nice warm meals and yummy treats and of course tons of hugs & kisses........going both ways!!!

Mya is a very sweet and easy girl to have around.  She's happy to follow us around even when I'm vacuuming!!  She likes to know where we are if she can't find me she will give a little whine as if to ask where am. She's happy as soon as I answer her.

We were able to give Mya some great news this week as she has been matched w/ a family and will soon be going to her forever home.  Mya is going to be very happy because she is going to have a Boxer "big brother" and a big yard where they can play together.  I could not wish for more for her.  I'll continue to update until adoption day..and have the pleasure of taking care of this sweet baby-girl for a little longer.

9/22/05 - Mya is pending adoption

9/19/05 - Another week has passed and Mya has made herself right at home. She has settled in nicely and we have had a rather uneventful week. She's got our routine down...she knows when it's time to walk, eat, nap & play. (and go pick up the kids.....she loves riding in the car!)

Mya is such a sweet girl and so easy to have around.  Our children have gone to school so Mya has become my constant shadow.  I sense that she is really beginning to get attached to "Mom".  This is the hard part about fostering.  Because once they love and trust you they just look at you different and of course we start to get attached to them. It is so easy to do w/ this adorable face. She is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.

Mya is such a happy little girl.  She is so much fun to watch as she runs and plays in the yard. She is still a puppy at heart, she runs and leaps trying to catch anything that moves.

Mya continues to meet new people in the neighborhood.  Every body loves her!!!!  Mya loves every one that she meets.  She is eager to meet new people.  She very quick to give kisses to our company.

Mya is very well behaved.  She has not chewed anything.  My daughter has left toys & crayons out and found them exactly as she left them.  She comes every time we call her even when she's playing outside.  Taking the cat out of the picture we have had absolutely no problems w/ her at all.  She is a joy to have around.  She loves to romp and play w/ our Boxer.  They share each others toys, water bowls etc.  They almost always nap together.

The only thing that would make Mya's life better would be to find her forever family and home.  She's a very special girl who will add a lot of love and laughter to your heart & home.

9/15/05 - Time for an update on Mya.  Mya has settled into our daily routine very nicely.  She greets us every morning w/ lots of wiggles....boy does she wiggle!!!!

We have our morning romp in the yard followed by a  walk.  We use "the gentle trainer" collar on Mya when we walk to make sure to keep the neighborhood cats safe.  Mya is great on our walks except when she sees a CAT...we have to remind her to be nice to kitties...and persuade her to keep walking.  She walks with our boxer and is very good and friendly w/ everyone that she meets.  After the walk she has breakfast and goes back into the yard to run & potty. By then she is usually ready for a nap.  Mya spends her days following me around the house and taking off every few minutes to find the cat...(which is living in one room during the day and has free run of the house while Mya is crated @ night) Mya comes back each time I call her.

Now that Mya feels settled she no longer growls outside or is distracted by the neighborly noises.  Most of her time outside is spent playing...she also likes water play! She knows the yard and no longer scopes the fence top.  Inside..she still enjoys looking out her favorite window and watching the people go by...especially the kids after school.  I take Mya in the car to pick up the kids after school.....she looks at each child passing and gets very excited when she sees our children.

Mya has many great qualities...she is very obedient, she even obeys the children.  Before meals they have her sit and shake.  You don't even have to ask her shake...she automatically "gives her paw" when she sits.  She goes in her crate w/ little prompting. She does not jump up unless you encourage her to do so.  She does not get on the furniture unless prompted.

Mya comes to me for love many times during the day.  She so cute...you can't help but stop every thing and give her some love.  She's really a good girl and such a sweet heart. Once you look into Mya's big, warm eyes.....you're going to be taken in.....you can't help but fall in love w/ this adorable little girl.

9/11/05 - Mya has been Here for one week today.  In the week we've learned much about this sweet baby-girl.  Mya has personality plus!!!  You could not ask for a more wonderful boxer girl.  She loves attention and she really likes to look right into your eyes and take in every word.  She likes to lay her head on your lap and look up w/ her warm and adoring eyes. You just want to hug her and kiss her!! She likes to be loved and cuddled.  She will do the boxer lean w/ all of her weight, she is so completely trusting. She will give kisses, lots of tail wags and wiggles!

(With our cat shut in one room.) Mya has free run of the house.  She loves people and will follow you from room to room.  She's very obedient.  Now that she's been here the week we do not hear as much of the growling out the window.  I think that she's comfortable here and knows that no one is going to hurt her so she's taken her guard down.

Mya has mixed feelings about her crate.  Most likely because of past Crate experiences.  She sleeps every night in her crate w/ out a word and will go in on her own when she's tired.  So the sleeping in it is not a problem.  But to spare the cat..I crate her every time I leave the house. The first time I did so...she greeted me at the kitchen door when I came home!!!  She got out of her crate!!  The next time I left her, I lightly reinforced the crate and put up double baby gates
"just in case".  20 minutes later when I pulled in the driveway...  Mya was out again looking at us through my living room window. Not only had she managed to get out of the lightly reinforced crate, she jumped up on my son's desk and over the 2 baby gates. I teasingly call her "Hudini".  She is very clever to figure that out!  I'm not sure if she tries so hard to get out of the crate because of separation anxiety or her desperate search for the cat!!!  I tend to think the latter!!!!

I tried a few different ways to lightly reinforce her crate each time she managed to get out...finally I reinforced all sides of it with oval metal clips.  Even though "Hudini" figured out all previous ways of escape she could not chew through the metal.  Now when we leave I find her as I left her!!!

If you are thinking about making Mya part of your family,  you will have to take extra steps to keep her safe.  She's very smart and has figured out several ways to get out of her crate and room.  When she is in our fenced yard I have seen her checking out the top of the fence...our fence is 8 feet high.  I just know that her wheels are turning as she's trying to see if there might be a way to get up and over it!!

Mya is completely house trained but has had a couple of potty accidents in the house.  But that does happen w/ fosters some times because we're all getting used to each other's schedules.  It was NOT Mya's fault...but she knew right away that it was wrong and looked very guilty.  She went into her crate and laid down.  Probably to feel safe or the crate was used as a form of punishment before.  You see...she likes the crate @ night.....goes into it on her own when she felt she had done some thing wrong.  Yet she tried so desperately to get out of it when I was gone......that's
why I say she has mixed feelings about it.

When she did manage to get out...she was a very good girl......no destruction....no messes.  Once Mya is settled into her new home she would probably prefer to be w/ her family @ night.  You can see from the previous owners photos that she had the option of sleeping in the family bedrooms.

Mya will get on the children's bed if prompted.  She has not jumped on any of the other household furniture w/ the exception of one old chair in my office that I allow the boxers on so they can be near me while I'm working.

Mya will make a loyal, fun, and loving addition to a very lucky family.    A family that won't mind taking the extra steps to make sure that she has a secure environment. If you're that lucky family...she's got a lot of love to give you and lots of kisses from the cutest little face
ever!!!!

9/8/05 - It has been a very busy few days for Mya and our family as we've been getting to know this sweet little girl.  There is much to tell!!!

I must first tell you that the pictures you see do not do her justice.  Mya is absolutely beautiful and the beauty of her coat can't really been seen in the photos.  The photos do show how wonderful she is with children.  Mya is an energetic and very fun girl.
Mya has been playing in the yard w/ our children.  She races our Boxer w/ lightning speed.  She knows how to play fetch.  She will bring a toy to you, hold it in her mouth until you tell her to drop it.  She then plops it on the ground as is ready to go again.  Mya would love to have a home w/ children or a young family who has energy to play...she loves being outside.  I was attempting to fill the bird bath & her outside water dish w/ the hose she ran up to the hose and started drinking from the stream of water.  She is really to cute!!!
Mya is very protective of her yard and family.  Every time she goes outside she sniffs the perimeter of the fence before she begins to play or go potty.  If she hears a noise she stops and listens intently.  If she feels comfortable w/ the sound she continues to play.  If not then she runs in the direction of the "threat" and growls.  She stops immediately when you call her or tell her it's okay.  Mya also "patrols" the street from her favorite window and sometimes growls at strangers going by.  Nothing bad...just the "protected by boxer" growl.  If people see her and speak to her she starts wagging her tail and sniffing the window.  If someone knocks she lets you know..she runs to the door and barks.  Again she stops when you go to the door and tell her it's okay.  She is a great watch dog.
Mya has made friends w/ our 5 year old male boxer.  We were told that she has a dominant personality.  So we did a slow introduction over a period of 4 days.  They originally sniffed each other through a baby gate...make that 2 gates one stacked on top of the other.  She can scale a baby gate w/ ease...more on that later.  After a couple of days we allowed Mya and our boy to visit and exchange sniffs in the same room or outside several times a day as their paths crossed when taking them out to potty. On the third day they were allowed in the same room for longer periods of time. We had no issues at all...they sniffed, kissed and acted like they did not care if the other was there or not.  Today is the second day of Mya having free run of the house. We did not see any of the dominance here but she may show it w/ other females.  The introduction of dogs is so important.  If they are going to be together for life there is no reason to rush it.
That brings up our next subject.....our cat.  Who will remain in hiding until Mya finds her forever home.  Mya needs to have a home without cats.  Mya actually searches the house for her and doesn't give up until she finds her and has the cat trapped under a bed.  Mya loves to play chase and cannot understand why kitty doesn't.  Since Mya loves chase so much she should not live w/ other small animals like ferrets or bunnies.
Mya went to the vet yesterday and of course the girls were coming out from behind the counter to kiss her "squishy" wrinkled face.  Everyone thought that she was beautiful.  Mya loves to ride in the car. She lays peacefully or sits and looks out the window.  We did not hear a sound from her the entire trip. She was a bit nervous waiting as the only patient @ the Vet.  But then she saw other 4 legged friends and had something else to think about. Mya heartworm test was negative.  The Vet gave her a 3 day RX for Hookworm which was present in her stool.  The Vet commented on her overall great looks and good health.  Mya fooled all of us w/ her weight.  The vet asked if I knew what she weighed..I had thought about 50lbs he agreed.  We were both surprised to see the scale light up at 60lbs.  She is petite but very solid.  Mya is up to date on all shots and she is spayed.  This little baby-girl is just waiting for a family!!!
We fell in love w/ Mya and wanted to go into the foster to adopt program.  But we feel that it would not be fair to our cat who is a lounge princess.  She told us that she did not want to give that up and spend all day running just to make Mya happy. Mya is all of the things we love about "boxer".  She is very obedient, smart, walks great on a leash.  She is a great companion..follows me from room to room.  Greets you w/ happy tail wags and big wiggles.  She is wonderful with the children.  Mya has so much love to give, she'll protect your children and home.  She has an endless supply of hugs & kisses.  Not to mention.........she is oh so adorable!!!!!

9/5/05 - Mya arrived at our foster home yesterday.  We were first taken by her beautiful coat.  She is red-fawn in color and has a gorgeous, soft, shiny coat.  She has a black mask and warm brown eyes and the cutest little under-bite. (on her bottom jaw.)  She is petite in stature, but solid w/ great muscle tone. Mya is a real looker. She has a lot of personality.   She came to us quickly  full of wiggles and happy tail wags. Mya was eager to run and play in the yard she is as fast as lightning when playing chase. She chases anything that moves...squirrels, birds, butterflies.  She stops in a second and comes to you if you call her.
Mya is great on a leash, knows all of the basic commands and is very gentle when taking a treat.  She is quick to give kisses and roll on her back to get a belly rub. Mya has a lot of love to give.  She likes to be up close & personal.....she would love it if you could talk nose to nose or cheek to cheek at the very least.  If you sit and allow her to ...she will put her front paws on your lap or chest and try to get as close as she can to get love.  She will put her head on my chest and look up w/ adoration tail wagging 100mph while I'm talking to her. She likes to put her head on your lap or have you hold her face while she listens carefully to every word spoken.
She just came to me while I'm typing..... paws up and laid her head on my chest/shoulder. She really enjoys hugs and soaks up all the love you can give.  She is to cute!!! Mya slept quietly in her crate....she went in on her own when she was tired. Right now we're going outside to play...so I'll update soon and give you more info on this sweet and "lovey" little girl.
We thought that we might like to consider the foster to adopt program....but.....she may not be best for our house w/ her acquired taste for Kitty...and the dominance issue that may effect our ability to foster.  So keep looking at Mya and her progress.
