12/22/05 - William has been adopted
Fostering these little babies has got to be one of the most gratifying things that I have ever done. William just left with his forever Mom & Dad - they drove over 8 hours (all night long) to come get him! Now they have to turn around and go home…..that's 16 hours behind the wheel! Not only do they already love him - but they are truly committed to him - and that is what will make the difference for him for the rest of his life. By tonight William will be sleeping in a warm bed with his wonderful forever family in Canada…a long way from the streets and garbage cans of Brooklyn where he was just a short 6 weeks ago! I am so happy to have had the chance to be a part of his journey...

Anyone out there who hasn't yet had the opportunity to foster one of these little babies - I encourage you to consider it strongly as we enter into the New Year. It not only will make a huge difference in the life of one of these little doggies - but I promise you it will make a huge difference in your own life. It is such a gratifying experience …. Watching them blossom as they are in your home and finally begin to trust again… then seeing them matched up with a perfect family that wants them enough to drive all night long to come get them… it gives you goose bumps it is so cool! Just consider it as a possibility if you can - the more homes we have to provide foster care the more babies rescue can save.

12/21/05 - William is pending adoption

12/4/05 - It's Sunday afternoon and winter is truly upon us - ughhhhhh!! Let the snowplows begin! At least I have one of the cutest sights in the world to watch.....two young boxers and a bulldog romping in the snow. It's almost too cute for words.

I noticed that my little Willie managed to sneak onto the computer on his own yesterday - I told you he was a smart one! He is also wonderful in his crate at night and walks on his leash like a gentleman.....still a bit headstrong when it comes to obeying the "come" command - he does it REALLY well when he wants to (smile) but when he doesn't feel like it I may as well stand on my head (this usually happens when we are in the backyard playing and he doesn't want to come in yet).  Typical boxer youngin'.

As I have mentioned before, William is wonderful with other dogs and with children of all ages. He will really avoid confrontation at all costs - doesn't like an argument and will simply squat and/or lay down and shiver if my little bully gives him a hard time. On the other hand, William and Mac (the older boxer) have a fabulous time playing and romping around.  They do that “boxing” thing that is just hilarious to watch….

When I tried to introduce William to the household kitty he just sat there and wiggled and bowed. The kitty got disgusted and left before I could really get a feel for what Willie would do next. I think that once he gets over his initial excitement he will be fine with cats.

I have continued to crate Willie during the night and when I am out of the house - also when he and Mac get to playing to rough in the house and I need some peace and quiet (smile). After all, even though he has an incredible temperament....he is still an adolescent. During the first week that he was here with me I tried to have him sleep with me at night because he seemed so skinny and sad...but unfortunately he was afraid of the spiral staircase leading up to my room. Now that his confidence is building and he has gained weight I don't feel so terrible putting him in his crate at night. He hasn't even tried to chew anything since he has been here - he isn't even that rough with his toys!

When William and Mac aren’t playing you will typically find the little guy either at my feet or on my lap.....yes, he’s a “mamma’s boy”. No one has told him yet that boxers aren’t really supposed to be “lap dogs” (LOL). I work out of the house and am on the computer or on the phone 90% of the time…….William, Mac and Nigel (the bully) all pick spots to sleep on the floor in my office…….the Scottish terrier can usually be found in her bed in the living room…..she can’t be bothered with the boys!

As far as housebreaking is concerned, Willie has had one accident since he got here - I let him out of the crate to meet a friend of mine that had come over and he pee'd on the floor in excitement. I took the blame for that accident since I typically take the dogs directly outside to do their business when I let them out of the crate and that particular time I didn't.

Well, it's about time I round up the gang from outside before they start throwing snowballs at each other! They will all sleep well tonight, that's for sure!

12/3/05 - Hi everyone…..my humans are outside right now so I snuck into her office and got on her computer to tell everyone how happy I am to be off of the streets! My name is William – my close friends call me Willie – and I’m originally from the city…..Brooklyn to be exact. I was wandering the streets one afternoon looking for food and this truck with two men in it stopped and picked me up – they put me in a crate in the back with other dogs (they looked hungry too) and took us to a place that was really scary called a “shelter”…..but at least they fed me there.  The bulldog in the pen next to me at the shelter told me that if no one came and took me that I would be put to sleep…I didn’t think that sleeping was such a bad thing – but after that I was even more scared. I just ate my food and sat in the corner praying for someone to come get me.

Then one day it happened – a lady human came and got me and took me to another really nice lady’s house out in a place called Long Island……..she was so nice to me – she scratched my hinney and gave me all the food I wanted and let me play with her other fur babies all the time……she told me that there were angels watching after me and that I would be getting a wonderful forever home soon! Then, a week later the nice lady took me to go see another nice lady that also feeds me all the food that I want and scratches my hinney…..that’s where I’m at now. This lady wanted to pick me up directly from that shelter place but couldn’t because she was away for something called Thanksgiving…..I really like it here because I have two other fur babies to play with and, like I said, the nice lady treats me really good. But…..I can’t help but wonder when I will be getting that forever home these humans keep talking about. I’m technically still a kid – but I think I’ve got an old soul…..that’s what happens when you are on the streets for awhile I guess. Other then getting my hinney scratched and playing with the other fur babies, my favorite thing in the world to do is to cuddle up next to my human lady while she watches TV…..I just love to cuddle.

Well, I think I hear my humans coming back into the house, so I better get off of this computer. If they find out that I know how to use it they might make me start working or something! If I get a chance I’ll write again in a few days. Until then, keep an eye out for those angels and if you see my forever home tell them where to find me!

11/28/05 - I picked our wonderful little William up from Deb Saturday afternoon and have been having so much fun with this sweet little man ever since! As has become typical for the crew at my house, Penny (the Scotty) hardly even notices that William is here) Max (the boxer) wants to play and Nigel (the bully - in more ways then one) is giving everyone a hard time (smile). Willie is such a sweet guy though - he doesn't want to have any part of an argument with the rest of the gang. I think that after having spent a week filled with wiggles and kisses with Deb and now getting the same here he is finally starting to believe that maybe he won't have to sleep outside in the cold
anymore.....It breaks my heart to think that just 3 short weeks ago this wonderful guy was sleeping outside in the cold and eating out of garbage cans!
We went to the vet this afternoon and even though he is still a bit swollen from being neutered he received a completely clean bill of health. Our vet concurred that he is probably right around one year old (she called him a “young adult” – soon he’ll be going on dates!). His weight has increased to 51 lbs (up from 48 when Deb got him just out of the shelter – all of that good home cooking)!  The vet also commented on what great muscle tone and good teeth William has! He’s got the cutest face and eyes – and his ears are utterly hilarious – they kind of look like wings (Gary called them “flying nun” ears). Although he is still young and may change a bit as he fills out more – I don’t think he will ever be one of those “tough” looking boxers……all that you have to do is look at him and you want to go hug him.
And now for the WIGGLES WIGGLES WIGGLES…….it is just too funny to watch him dance around when he gets all excited. He wiggles and does the little bean curl thing – then he bows down on his front legs and looks up at you…..too much to resist! Surprisingly though, in general William is an incredibly calm baby for a one year old boxer…..maybe he is just so relieved to be in a home and off of the streets. He does love to romp and play, but seems happiest when he is curled up next to his human. We saw children at the vet’s office this afternoon and William just started to wiggle and bow as soon as he got in the door….I think it is safe to say that he will be great with children of any age.
The only thing that I don’t know about yet with this wonderful guy is how he is around cats and/or other critters…..but since he has such an incredibly calm demeanor I will “test the waters” in the next few days and see how he is with my kitty……at least until my kitty tells me he has had enough (smile)!
William is going to make the perfect addition to someone’s family. If I had more time and more space he would be calling Garrison his forever home. I’ll update again in a few days.

11/24/06 - William is doing real well with us. He is a good, good boy. He does all his business outside. He has not climbed up on one piece of furniture. He knows commands (basic) for a youngin' but does them well. He walks very nicely on the leash. He is a bowl of mush! Can't get enough hinny scratches. He is still a bit shy, but coming out. We have gotten him to play with us. He kinda plays with Porche, it is like he doesn't know what playing is yet. But WHAT a honey! Goes in the crate well, a bit of whimpering, but quickly settles down. William will be here with us until Saturday  and then he is going to meet with his Foster To Adopt family. They are already excited as well! With Turkey
Day tomorrow it brought to mind while I was looking down over William as he lay at my feet...he is soooo awfully skinny that there will actually be turkey's on the table that have more meat then this lil' fella, made me sad but I also know, Mama Lady knows how to fatten em' up! :o)  Thanx for taking a peek at William and send him your best wishes for his future.   Debby B.

11/19/05 - Hiya everyone! Wanted to let you know that Tyson (William) has arrived. Sue V. is the Boxer Express today! This woman took Tyson & Rocky out of a NYC Shelter today. Brought Tyson all the way out here to me in LI and then was on her way to Conn. to drop Rocky!! Thank you SO much Sue...you are awesome.

Tyson (William) looks good. A sweetie. Very, very ! skinny, but that won't be for long. He is very goofy, still scared but doing good. Good so far going outside for his business. I am keeping him crated as he was neutered yesterday so he needs some rest and quite. William will be staying here with us until next week when his Foster Mom is home from vacation. And his Foster Mom to be is the one that came up with William! She sounds very excited to be able to get him. Lucky boy here...he believed in "The Angels"  and he was right. Thanx!   Debby B.
