2/11/08 - I am happy to report that Luna is making great progress at the K9 training facility.   Her trainer remarks that Luna is active and full of life in exuberant Boxer style.    Luna is looking for an experienced Boxer home where she will be able to have a strong and dedicated leader.   Luna needs a home where exercise will be part of her daily routine.   She loves to go for walks and run.    Luna would do well in a home w/ teenage children.      Though Luna has made progress in socialization she would be happiest in a home where she is the only dog,  where she will not have to compete for affection.     Luna loves one on one human attention.  She enjoys her humans.  She likes to
run and play but also enjoys lounging around and laying with her head in your lap.     Luna is crate trained and house trained.   She is looking for a family who has the time and energy to continue working w/ her.  Luna will reward you with lots of love, dedication, boxer wiggles and kisses.   Luna promises to love you "to the moon and back".

9/19/07 - Luna has been moved to our trainer in NJ for some additional work.

7/20/07 - Every day becomes more frustrating and harder to think of parting with Luna.  We become more and more attached to her and her wonderful side.    Luna will thrive and be most happy to live in a home as an only dog..  Where she will have her human’s undivided attention and in turn be the fabulous Boxer girly that she can be.
.  Luna still has some separation anxiety, but is coping much better now than she was.  We have been letting her free in our family room and she has been good.  When she was in the crate, her bedding would be soaked  from drooling and licking.  When we leave her gated (triple gated, mind you, she is an Olympic jumper) in the family room, she is relaxed and just chills out during the day there is no drool or accidents.

5/07 - We have contacted a dog behaviorist to come work with all of our dogs, but Luna in particular.  We felt it was worth the investment to continue working with her to make her a more adoptable dog for the next family and to make her adjustment easier for her.  She is really a wonderful dog and will make a family very happy.  As I said in an earlier post her joie de vivre is comparable to none when she does her rabbit jumping as she sees you when you come home or the look on her face when she greets you.  Her commitment to her family is more than either of the other two dogs we have, which is why it is so heartbreaking to us to have to rehome her.   Luna actually does get along with other dogs in the neighborhood when we go for walks or at the training facility we go to in a controlled setting without aggression, so she MAY get along in a home with a submissive male.  We are working with the behaviorist and our submissive male to see if they can get along at some point in time, as that could open more doors for her adoptability.

4/07 - Luna continues to have disputes w/ the other dogs in our house.  She is a wonderful dog and we love her dearly, but she would do best in a home where she can be the only dog.  She is still learning and adjusting to living w/ dogs & humans.
We found out that she was whelped in November (probably for the second time) and abandoned to the shelter only 3 weeks after giving birth.  She was still lactating and very depressed when she was spade.  She had an awful case of kennel cough and was very sick also at the time.
Luna's original  “home” was only a kennel with virtually no human interaction with only her food thrown at her.  So she was very untrusting of humans, had no idea of what women or children were and was terrified of other dogs.  So she has come miles since we have had her in terms of socializing with humans and learning how to BE a dog and being in a house.   Luna's lack of socializing with other dogs,  has proven so far to be too much for her, at least with our pack.  So we feel it is in her best interests to try again where she will be the sole dog, as much as it breaks our hearts to do so.

3/07 - Luna is coming along wonderfully with her training with people, but is still having problems with the other two dogs.  She is still a Houdini when it comes to escaping.  She is SO fast.
She is most happy when she is alone with one or the other of us, cuddling or just lying on her bed, relaxing alone with one of us in the room.

1/5/07 - Well it’s been a week since Miss Luna has been a member of our family now.    We are still keeping her separate from our two dogs since she exhibits fear aggression due to her lack of socialization.
We are starting Luna next week with our Annie’s agility trainer for one-on-one classes in basic obedience/agility. She really doesn’t need obedience, she already knows the basics. We will slowly work in the agility stuff because we think she will enjoy the course work. She is still too “fragile” to introduce her to a group setting with other dogs yet, so we have made arrangements to do a ˝ hour training before Annie’s agility class with these trainers who are wonderful and who we like very much. We have been going there for over a year for both obedience and agility. They are thrilled about the rescue group (we have been telling them about BAR) and we will also be working with Luna and her other “issues” with fear aggression, etc.   We still have not seen any aggression towards humans.  Luna has accepted us and seems to trust us. She is fearful of outsiders, however, and it does take some time for her to adjust to newcomers, particularly women.

12/31/06 - We had many visitors today to meet Miss “Luna Noelle Snowflake”  Luna is cautious meeting women and we have to be watchful that she does not jump on children.   When Luna senses fear and will growl.  But it is something that is correctable with training.
We have not seen any aggressive tendencies in Luna toward us since we have had her in the house at all.  She absolutely loves my son.  I think she definitely prefers the lower, deeper voice to a higher pitched one; her foster mom also used a lower voice with her.  She knows her name, come, and "no" commands, we are working now on stay, heel, and down.  She is truly a love; so far we are thrilled to have her as an addition to our family.  I am posting her new pictures to our album on the BoxerAngelsChat:Photos
http://pets.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/BoxerAngelsChat/photos/browse/109c.
Thank you BAR for giving us the opportunity to volunteer with this great group and for allowing us
the privilege to open our home to Miss Luna Noelle Snowflake L.  We will keep you posted as
she progresses.  Happy New Year!  Eddie, Barb, Kevin, Beau, Annie, and Luna (a.k.a. Lulu, Luci)

12/30/06 - Well we decided to make the trip to NYC (570 miles round trip) to pick up Luna before the New Year.

9:45 AM.  We met Luna’s foster mom and got all the information exchanged and got back on the road at about 11:15.  Luna is a wonderful girl, vibrant, high energy, a little nervous, but very sweet.   She is exceptionally strong.  I sat in the back with her while Eddie drove and she did get “nippy” when she got anxious, which was when we got lost on the way back and we were anxious.  She must have sensed our tension and when I laid my arm on her back she snapped at me.  I corrected her immediately, she calmed down, and we switched drivers, as she seemed more comfortable with Eddie.    At a rest stop Luna showed us her strength and lack of manners on a leash, so we took turns visiting the restrooms, and Eddie went in to get some food while I walked her around the parking lot.    Luna can be vocal when she sees other dogs.   Luna was eager to sniff and get acquainted w/ her new surroundings.  Introductions to our dogs will wait until tomorrow.
