12/9/07 - Well...Jack has it all figured out.  He's never lived anywhere else, hit the big one, his ship came in, #1 in the lottery. Shasha turned out to be the alpha dog, so sweet, energenic & affectionate.  Sometimes we call Shasha "B" for jumping bean.  Happy Holidays!!

12/15/06 - I spoke with Chiniqua yesterday.  She called to give me an update regarding Sasha.
She is fitting in well with their family--everything they wanted when they decided to add another boxer .  Even with her high energy level, she is doing well with Brutus.  The yard is now fenced in and the pups are in Boxer Heaven.  As with every addition of a new dog, there are can be some issues but she is loved and wanted!!
Have a Happy Holiday,  Joann M

11/22/06 - Sasha left about 1 ½ hour ago with her forever family.  We are missing her but we are sure she is in a loving home.  She had no problem meeting her new fur-brother.  They were doing a lot of boxer play in the driveway.  When it was time to go she just jumped up into her crate in the back of the SUV, wagging her nub--real happy to be going for a ride!!!

11/17/06 - Sasha is pending adfoption

11/15/06 - Sasha has recuperated from her spay just fine!!!   She is back to her rambunctious self!!!  PLAY, PLAY, PLAY.  Is what she is all about.    At this moment she and Zeus are quietly chewing, nuzzling each other’s faces---Now they are upright wrestling each other’s face. (What will Zeus do when Sasha goes to her forever home??? ) When he stops playing she will bark at him till he gives in and resumes playing.  They are quite entertaining to watch.
We were giving her increased time out of the crate when we were not at home.  At this point we feel she can be trusted up to 4 hours.  She picked on and destroyed an innocent silk floral arrangement.  Even though our 2 were present, she had guilt all over her face and body language.  Yesterday, I was in and out all day never crating her and had no problems with getting into things or destroying things.  I think it is just the over 4 hour stretch that is the problem.  We will continue to work on this.
The leash tugging has gotten some what better.  I now can see the gleam in her eye that says it is time to tug!!!  I keep walking not giving her any extra leash to grab onto. I also try not to make eye contact with her, just look and walk straight ahead and it seems to work.
By the way—Sasha and Zeus are still wrestling quietly in the family room—it has been at least 20 minutes continual play!!

11/10/06 - Just to let you all know, Sasha was spayed yesterday and is now resting comfortably with her foster Dad in the recliner.
She is taking it easy, being very mellow.  I am sure she will be back to her active self in short time.

11/9/06 - Not much going on with the very busy Miss Sasha.  I had forgotten just how busy a 1yr pup can be!!!  She actually has just 1 goal and that is to get our very cranky GSP to play with her.  She  has been here almost 3 weeks and hasn’t realized that Lucy does not play with boxers!!!  Sasha barks and barks at her to get her attention to no avail.  Lucy just gives a growl and walks away—with Sasha following.  Today Lucy has been given a reprieve.  Sasha is being spayed today and will be at the vet’s until tomorrow.
It is amazing how quiet it is---we are all missing that ball of fire!!  I think Zeus is depressed—“where did my playmate go—finally a dog to play with me!!!”
After to day, she’ll be ready for her forever home!!!  Get those apps in for a very loving, playful, and smart little girl boxer!!

11/3/06 - Sasha has really settled in---but every now and then the Wild Child returns!!! but she settles down much quicker.  She has discovered her bark which is loud and deep.  She basically uses it only to get Lucy or Zeus to play with her.  Zeus and Sasha play so well together---so much fun to watch.  She really enjoys the companionship of another dog that will play with her.
We rarely crate her during  the day--only on the day I  work 6 hours.  She still uses the crate at night--really to give our guys a break. Sasha goes into the crate with no problem--just a bone filled with p-nut butter will do it!!  No longer any whining or moaning. She is very housebroken, doesn't counter surf or beg at the table.  She is just about perfect.
Our only complaint---very forceful tugging on her leash when returning from a walk--(she is so smart-she knows when we are going home). She is very strong. I have gotten input from several BAR folks and am trying to elevate the problem.
She is doing better at some commands and does respond to her name now.
We are enjoying fostering her and getting her ready for her forever home.  Sasha is a good girl and a fun pup!!!  Her antics really make us laugh out loud!!

10/30/06 - Sasha had her visit with the vet today---he pronounced her beautiful and healthy.
She has been brought UTD with her vaccines and is scheduled to be spayed next week.  Then she'll be good to go!!
Sasha rides beautifully in the car---just sits and watches out the window--when tired of that just curls up and takes a nap.  If someone is in the front passenger seat, she will try to join you.  If you let her drape her front legs and upper body over your legs, she will just go to sleep, after giving you a big sloppy kiss.  She does not annoy the driver at all.

10/28/06 - WOW!!! Sasha has been here 1 week--time does fly!!!  She continues to be a real sweetie!!  She has the softest fur and wrinkly face--just love to smoosh it.  This morning I watched her playing chase with her tail--her nub is just long enough that she can do the boxer bend around and catch it!!!  She is so funny to watch.
When we feed the dogs, they eat in their own area of the kitchen as all--including Sasha--are  possessive of their food.  You can move Sasha's dish and put your hand in her food while she is eating with no problems.
Sasha will be visiting the Vet on Monday morning.  She will be brought UTD with her shots and we will be scheduling her spaying.  Soon she will be good to go---get those apps in soon!!

10/26/06 - Sasha is doing very well, continuing to settle into the comings and goings around our home.  She is a feisty girl that is holding her own with a cranky GSP and a boxer who thinks he is King of the World!!  When on her own turf, I don't believe she will be considered submissive--she is fitting in with our little pack but does give a bit of sass.
She walks well on the leash going down the road or driveway-- no pulling and tugging-- but I cannot says she heels and does a lot of sniffing around.  When we walk thru the yard, it seems to be her signal to play tug with her leash---it feels like you are being tugged by a 360lb force not 60.  We do discourage this---if I walk her with a spray bottle, no tugging occurs--perhaps her original home had the same problem and took care of it with a healthy squirt of water.
She is earning our trust---we are leaving her out of her crate for shorts periods of time-10-15 minutes--while we are gone from the house.  We have had no problems-her original home noted she could be destructive.   Perhaps because one of our pups is always with her, the companionship calms her .  When we are home she is always uncrated (except nite) and has basically free run of the house.  She is not allowed on the furniture/beds, a simple no and she jumps off and doesn't return.
Sasha is a joy to play ball with in the house---delights in running and jumping after it. She will hold the ball in her mouth ssoooooo gently and gives you no grief when you take it from her.  Oh yes, your reward for playing ball???  The biggest, sloppiest boxer kisses!!!!   Till next time!!

10/24/06 - Sasha has been with us since Saturday.  At 1st she was known as Wild Child but has calmed down quite a bit.  She is a real beauty with a very sweet disposition.  Always wanting to please you.  The first several days we weren't sure if she knew her name even though she is  an owner surrender .  We now see her responding to it more frequently.

Sasha will need  obedience training--especially in greeting folks and other dogs---she really gets in your face!!  It is annoying to humans and REAL annoying to our pups!!   She does sit on command but very briefly.  Down doesn't exist neither does come.  She walks on the leash fairly well--as a puppy, she does get distracted by the blowing leaves and the passing squirrels and birds.
Since she is so exuberant a home with very small children or frail older adults should think twice about adopting her.  Perhaps with more settling down as she gets used to us she will mellow a bit but I don't think so---she is a puppy still!!
She came to us with her crate.  She was originally crated 8+ hours at home during the day and had free run at night.  We are attempting to reverse this and reduce the day time crate hours to only when needed.  She bulks at going in--not a fight, just  puts the brakes on.  Then whines, cries for a bit--15 minutes or so.  During the day if she sees you from the crate she is ok, and at night  not a peep from her until she hears the house stirring in the morning.  We  need to crate her at night only for her safety--Zeus, our dominant guy, doesn't appreciate her "in the face" actions.   They are getting along rather well but there are limits.
Sasha is housebroken--don't miss the "I need to go out whine".  We only missed it once!!  Actually, she does her business as soon as she goes out.
That's all for now--more to come as we get to know Sasha better.  Get your apps in soon, she will make a great addition to any home-- we would think about it ourselves but don't want to be greedy---she is really a sweet, sweet girl!!!
