2/24/07 - "Tyson" has adjusted unbelievably well. He and our older boxer, "Jake" (11 yrs.) get along so well you'd swear they were raised together...never had any kind of problem AT ALL!
Our grandchildren love Tyson and smother him with attention and affection...Tyson just loves it.
We have some pet chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese that have free range of our property during the day...Tyson has accepted them from day one...never chased, barked etc. Seems the "critters" accept him...Tyson goes up to them...they just walk away, don't run or fly...one of the turkey's perched on his back once for a few seconds... Tyson moved...the bird jumped off and that was it.
Tyson (& Jake) are with me always...we walk everyday... Tyson loves to ride...must not have ridden in a car much before...he's just beginning to learn how to "anticipate" a coming curve or turn and prepare for it by "leaning" into it...he's funny to watch...trying to master this little technique.
Our house has "hard-wood" floors throughout...we have lots of oriental carpets and rugs...it's hilarious to watch Tyson sit on a rug...front paws on the wood...the rug slowly begins to slide backwards (along with Tyson's "butt") and Tyson comes to a soft "landing" on his belly. He's still trying to figure out what happened.
Tyson is the first dog we have ever adopted...what a great experience..."kudo's" and thank yous go out to BAR and all your wonderful volunteers...what a great organization.
We learned about BAR from our daughter-in-law (her family adopted "Buddy" last year) and she got us hooked. We have some friends who we have just got "hooked" and they are going to adopt from BAR...I just downloaded the app. for them to complete.
Thanks again BAR for making it possible for Tyson to come join our home...he's a "perfect" fit and really is one of the family!
Cheers,  Peter & Marie

11/13/06 - I’m in my home office (2nd floor) typing this message and Tyson is laying not more than a foot away…we’ve “bonded” rather quickly.
We’re very appreciative of the “car-hopping” legs to get Tyson to us. We met Tyson & his courier at a shopping center parking lot…we had our grandchildren with us (3 of them) and it was love at first site for all concerned. I took Tyson for a short walk by myself…established the basic understanding of our “pecking order” without even a minor attempt on Tyson’s part to object…he was just so…so…so happy!
He truly is a remarkable dog…all who have related experiences; observations etc. were right on the mark. He’s calm, well behaved, listens, always wants to please and do what is expected of him…you can watch and see just how hard he tries to do what he thinks you want.
He and our other boxer, Jake hit it off immediately. Absolutely no problems…Tyson continually licks Jake’s face as if to say: “Thank you, thank you for sharing your home with me. Jake is 10 and needless to say doesn’t care to play as much as Tyson and looks for peace and some solitude on his pillow.
Tyson slept in bed with us last night…very considerate though…he slept in the middle, length-wise; we have a king-size bed so it wasn’t so bad…but he does snore.
Tyson travels well in the car and like Jake is always ready to go as soon as they hear the jingle of the car keys.
First exposure to our little menagerie (pet turkeys, chickens, ducks & geese) went very well. He attempted to charge them…I followed SOP for handling and said NO! Made him sit…waited a short while…reintroduced him on a loose lead…corrected him again. After the third time…bingo…he new what was expected and behaved accordingly. Hours later I again brought him within a foot of the birds and absolutely no problem.
I’ll take a few pics in a few days and send them to you all.
Thanks again to all for expediting the process…Tyson deserves a good home and you can rest assured that is exactly what he has…it’s a perfect fit.
Cheers, Peter & Marie
P.S. In a “prior” life I was a teacher for a while…I wished kids listened half as well as Tyson does.

11/12/06 - Tyson has been adopted

11/10/06 - Tyson is pending adoption

11/7/06 - Tyson is really a gem!  He wants so badly to play with my two, but Lucy is afraid of his size (she is a bit wimpy), and Travis is "king of his castle".  So we have been taking it very slowly.  We are up to having Tyson on a leash, inside and outside, while my two, run freely.  This seems to be working well.  Tyson does seem to have a little separation anxiety.  He likes to be where the action is.  As long as someone is near, he's just fine.  When I left for work this morning, he was in his crate, Lucy was in hers, and Travis had the run of the house.  Tyson cried for sometime, but when I had come home, a few hours later, everyone was sleeping quietly.  One other thing . . . he does this kind of unusual head dip/face wipe while he's eating.  He takes a few bites, dips his head and wipes his face, then goes back to eating.  It's kind of like he's trying to wipe his face - he's trying to be so neat!   He hasn't eaten a whole heck of a lot yet.  He seems to be a grazer rather than a "woofer".  Also, I think he must have been eating soft mushy food.  He won't eat any doggie cookies or bones.  I have to let the water soak the food until it's soft, otherwise he won't eat it.

11/5/06 - Tyson is one amazing dog.  We all know how special boxers are, but he definitely is a stand out for his own breed.  Gary met me at the shelter yesterday and tested him there.  He walked on a leash beautifully, followed some simple commands, gave a boxer bath to everyone, and wiggled to everyone.
On the way home, my daughter and I decided that he desperately needed a bath.  I wouldn't normally suggest this, but he looked like he hadn't a had one in quite awhile.  We went right to a groomer,  and Tyson separated without a whimper.  When I picked him up, the groomer said that he was incredible!  He was the best dog she had all week.  He never moved a muscle .  .  . he listened to her perfectly.  She said that to make sure whoever gets this special boy will be quite lucky.
Gary instructed us on how to introduce Tyson to our canine family members.  Yesterday we started the routine.  So far we're up to having them all see each other through a baby gate.  They give each other kisses and cry for each other.  Later today, Tyson will get to see each of our dogs separately, outside.
Tyson slept wonderfully through the night in his crate.  He is rooming with one of my daughters.  She said that he cried for a minute, and the next thing she knew, he was snoring away.
I took him out this morning to do his business.  He went quickly and then wanted to come right back into the house.  He seems to make himself right at home very quickly.  And, I must say, he is one great big gentleman and terrific guest.
After he ate breakfast, my daughter took Tyson for a walk.  He walked as well for her as he did for me.  He love to go for walks, as well as he likes to investigate in the backyard.
I'll give another update soon, and I predict it will all be praises and raves for this wonderful boy.
