SPECIAL CONCERNS - Separation Anxiety

2/22/07 - Zeus has been PERFECT. He is such a great dog. He gets along so well with Brittney (I think she has a crush) and he is such a momma's boy already. She is probably also thankful that Roxy isn't dominating her like she was. We have seen a big change in Brit since Zeus has come along.

I have seen no separation anxiety in him at all. We crate all 3 when we go out. So far he has been perfect. No going to the bathroom, no chewing, scratching, nothing. He only had one accident on the first day and that's it. He also does what we call the "helicopter" it is hilarious. Outside in the yard Roxy and Brittney will be around him trying to play and he will be in the middle and just spin completely around like 5 times in a row. Its so funny. He has also started to defend the house. Barking at noises and people he sees outside. I can't see anyway we won't adopt him.

2/19/07 - Yesterday we met Zeus for the first time. We picked him up to take him to his new FTA home. We were surprised at how well he took to us. He greeted us with cautious kisses. He really is a big mush. He loves to be next to you and wants nothing more then to know he his loved. His first meeting with our girls Roxy and Brittney (both 2 and a half as well) went great for the first time. We brought Zeus into our TV room and put up a baby gate, letting the girls sniff and smell. After a little while we decided to take them all on a walk. Zeus is very comfortable with his leash. He walked great with our girls. No major issues or problems.
We tried to limit their playing as best we good in the house. Roxy and Brittney were a little annoying as they wanted to constantly play. Roxy and Zeus got into a few growling matches but it seemed harmless. It is still very early and we need to take it slow. It was nothing more then two boxers trying to play. Each trying to set boundaries. We immediately stopped it and let them know that type of behavior is not tolerated. When they were being nice together we constantly praised all three.
Zeus had one accident in the house so far. If anything, it was our fault, for not taking him out in time. Since then he has gone outside every time. We are starting to train him on our commands "go outside" "go pee pee's"  He seems to be a smart boy and definitely knows he needs to go do his business outside.
The goal now is to get him used to our living schedule. He really is a sweet boy and we have every intention of adopting him to our forever home. A few rough spots on the first day but overall it was great. More to come..

2/15/07 - Zeus will be moving to a foster-to-adopt home this weekend.

2/13/07 - Zeus continues to be a wonderful dog.  I hate to see him go, but I can not see him getting injured because of Rudy.  I want this boy to be very happy and not have to worry about stepping near a dog that might hurt him.  I can not explain why he does this to Zeus.  We thought at first they would play then get too rough, but it was really too much roughness.  We began to get help with training for how to handle Rudy, but nothing worked.  Separation is the only thing, however Zeus has a big problem with separation anxiety.  He truly needs someone to be there with him.  He also needs playmates.  He continues to do well with Mack and Angel, but we keep Zeus as far from Rudy as possible.  This is very difficult.  I feel as though I am punishing him.  I am very sad to know he will be leaving, but knowing he will find a safe home because of BAR makes my broken heart worth it.

Zeus will have a bit of skittishness at first in a new home.  It takes him a little while and he should be given time.  He should not be approached quickly as this frightens him.  He loves to give kisses, though in the beginning he may be a bit to shy...after a short time watch out here comes the smooches.  He loves kids and if around them he likes to assure they are safe in bed at night.  I can not say enough wonderful things about him.  Oh, in the beginning he may have an accident, he needs to adjust to your lifestyle.  He is wonderful.  We are going to miss him, but again, his safety is our number one concern.

2/10/07 - Zeus is a wonderful loving boy who deserves the best.  My boy Rudy has been starting fights with him, just about since he arrived.  We thought it was something that could be worked through as Zeus gets along so well with our other dogs Mack and Angel.  Well, after a series of trainings with my husbands sister (who has trained champions), the fighting continues and even gets worse at times.  I really do not want Zeus terrorized any further, and to keep him separated causes his anxiety to increase.  It is really unfair to him.  We love him oh so very much.  He gives the most wonderful boxer kisses, and plays so wonderfully.  He is great with children and does play with other dogs well...like I said, he gets along wonderfully with my two other dogs.  I hate to give him up, but he must be somewhere that he does not have a fight daily or where he can be with family.  He does have separation anxiety, if separated he does chew and dig.  If separated he also has accidents.  These are all part of the anxiety.  He needs to know he is safe and loved.  And he deserves to be safe and loved.  He points to the door when he needs to go out, occasionally he will bark, but mostly just point.  He is a very active dog and needs an active family.  He is nothing more than a puppy.  He is microchipped and I have the paperwork for that.  He is up to date, and a very healthy boy.  I want the best for this boy.  If you are willing to give him the best, including your time and attention, and most of all your total heart, he is the right boy for you.  He loves stuffed animals, so have plenty in stock.  He has his very own raised dog dishes that also come with him and several of his toys.

1/29/07 - Zeus is so wonderful.  Always full of wiggles.  We have had a few incidents, but they seemed to be
overcome when we discovered it was due to anxiety.  We are very happy to have this boy with us.  He has been a wonderful addition to the family.  He gets along really well with our other babies.  He is great with our kids.  He has been very good with his manners, and pleasant to have around.  I can't say enough how happy we are that we were able to bring him into our lives.  Thank you BAR
for bringing the third boy into our lives.

12/21/06 - Zeus became an official member of our family on 12/6/06.  We are very happy to have him as an
official member.  He is doing so well here.  He loves playing with the Rudy, Mack and Angel.  We will
have a very Merry Christmas.  I can't wait to give him his presents, after all he likes to open
presents.  He got under the tree and and opened a one.  It was hilarious.  I can't wait, its going
to be great!  Christmas will be wonderful.  Merry Christmas to all!!!!

11/24/06 - Zeus had a wonderful Thanksgiving. He loved having turkey dinner. He has been wonderful. He did have an accident in the house, but otherwise he has been doing great. We can not wait for Christmas. I have gotten them all new toys and goodies. We are very happy to have him here. He is such a bed hog. A couple times a week he sprawls out enough that I have to sleep on the couch. He does continue to give wonderful boxer kisses. More to come as the holidays progress.  Zeus is pending adoption

10/26/06 - Zeus continues to do wonderfully. No accidents in thou house and he continues to ask to go out. He continues to be just as loveable as day one. He makes sure my kids are in bed and asleep, then he will come into our room to sleep with us. His separation anxiety is about gone. He has been a treat to have in our home. His toe wound is healing well, you wouldn't really know he had an injury if you didn't notice his nail missing. He dances great. If you tell him he is a beautiful boy and tell him how special he is, he will do an awesome dance. I can't tell everyone how much we love this boy. He is a very smart and loving boy who has found a permanent place in our lives.

10/23/06 - Zeus came into our home two days ago and has been a wonderful addition.  He has been introduced the crew.  Angel, the Queen, well she looked at me like I was nuts.  Rudy the prince has set limits...and Mack the Joker is like cool, another brother.  Zeus is very attached to my kids.  In fact, when they went up stairs to bed last night, he wined until we said ok you can go to (I guess he doesn't like sleeping alone...even on a big queen size pull out bed).  This morning, he threw a fit when they left for school.  He has a good deal of separation anxiety.  He is slowly coming around though.  Once he gets used to the patterns..or the "always on the go" atmosphere, he will be without a care...just like the rest of the crew.  And he loves to ride in the car.  He did great on the journey here.
He is great on a leash.  He has been going outside and has went to the bathroom without hesitation.  He asks to go out and  he is very loved by all.  My mother stopped in and loves him to pieces.
His toe is doing great.  It seems to be healing well.  The are is clean and no longer has a dressing on it.  He does not limp t all, and takes his medication well.  He is a wonderful boy!

10/16/06 - I am happy to say that Zeus is doing excellent with his potty manners.  He is going outdoors as he should and has even picked up the pace. We learned that it was a good idea to take him out with our other dog so that 'going out' became much more familiar for him.  We are impressed.
Zeus is an affectionate boy that loves to sit and cuddle at your feet.  He takes his treats well and is very patient at feeding time. He is very good at sitting and waiting while you prepare his food and even waits for you to let him know if OK to start eating.
Zeus continues to enjoy his walks. He is good about following your lead and he does not give you a problem with frequent walks.

9/25/06 - Zeus has been with us for a little over 2 weeks. We are impressed with the progress he has been making. He has been going in his crate with just a simple command. He is working really hard at sitting and going down on command. Zeus is very obedient with a treats so we are mixing it up so he will eventually obey without food.
He and the resident boxer are playing together and sharing toys well. They enjoy tug-of-war but take turns winning and losing. Zeus enjoys walking like it's a new experience for him.  Even at the field, it takes him a minute to realize he is free to run and let go of some energy.
The in home accidents are happening less frequently so we are going to continue to crate him until it's no longer necessary.
Zeus really likes to give his special kisses and we laugh all the time when he comes near because you know you are in for it. I have learned that asking him to sit and giving him the palm of my hand is a good way to teach the command. Zeus likes to get his belly rubbed so we use that time to brush him and show him lots of affection.

9/12/06 - Zeus is a two year old male boxer that was surrendered from a home with three other boxers. After a long transport, Zeus was welcomed in our home on Sunday night. After a brief walk (Zeus was great on the leash), we took Zeus and the resident boxer to the park for a meet-and-greet. All went well although the resident boxer was filled with 'puppy energy' and wanted to play all night. For the past two days, Zeus has been very good considering all the attention he has been getting from the puppy.

So far, we have not observed any aggressive behavior during play, toys, or with food. He does not appear to know many commands; he does sit with some coaxing. We have had three accidents in the house so far even though he has been taken out quite frequently. We are really hoping he is just adjusting to his new environment. Since we are still learning his schedule, he has not been left out unsupervised for the past 24 hours. It does not appear that Zeus was crated in his prior home.

Overall, Zeus has a very cautious and pleasant demeanor. Once he gets to know you, he gives lots of 'Zeus like' boxer kisses. More to come!

9/9/06 - Zeus has arrived at my home after a teary eyed goodbye from his mother.  She was very distraught.  Zeus is a little skittish, as I would believe anyone would be after being separated from the one who has raised you.  He is here for an overnight stay and will be going on tomorrow to meet his new mom.
Zeus is a 62 pound white male boxer.  He is micro chipped, and is UTD with Rabies being due again in 10/08.  He is also neutered.  He was vaccinated against Lyme disease on 10/17/05.
He is a beautiful white boy with a brown patch around his left eye.  He is very sweet, but timid.  It tends to take some time for him to get used to people, and he tries to back away if approached.  Once he has spent time with you (only a few minutes) he will begin the kisses, and I do mean kisses!!!!
We will be finishing the transport tomorrow, and with that in mind, he should be with his new mom by 1 pm and on his way to Massachusetts.  Keep him in your prayers, and his mother who was so very sad for having to give him up.  That is the hardest decision anyone would ever have to make.   Andrea
