12/15/07 - Julie has been adopted.

9/19/07 - Julie has been moved to our trainer in NJ for some additional work.

8/5/07 - Julie does NOT do well with cats. But is fine with other dogs after proper introduction, she knows all the commands. (sit, stay, down, laydown, heel, etc) Julie continues to thrive in our home, she is just waiting for her forever family to come along.

7/23/07 - Time for a Julie update....she's doing great! We have been letting her spend most of the day with my other two boxers. Sometimes things get crazy but so far that's about it. No aggression or food issues. Julie is very good about waiting for her turn when its "cookie" time. We have even been letting her off leash when she is out in the yard with my other two boxer kids. You must be aware of her surroundings, but she minds very well. She went to case a bird today when playing fetch with the others but with a stern reprimand she came back to me and didn't run out of the yard. If you remain on top of things you've won half the battle. Julie is not a dog you can let outside without being outside with her. A good home for Julie would be one where someone is home most of the time, she is very high strung (like mentioned before in earlier updates). If she was crated for most of the day she would have tons of pent up energy and frustration...not a good combo where Julie is concerned. She needs lots of stimulation, older kids would be great for her (my boys are 11 & 14, she LOVES them). I think she may be a bit much for toddlers. I have a daycare in my home so she is either gated in the kitchen or in her crate depending on what is going on in the house. She  has been good with kids of all ages but when worked up she doesn't pay attention to whom or what she is running over. IF you are home most of the day, have lots of patience and understanding and most of all love then Julie is the girl for you. She is a total mush!! I must admit we are all totally in love with her. She has won our hearts as I'm sure she will yours!

7/15/07 - Just a bit of an update for Ms. Julie. She is gaining weight and is still her spazzy self. I'm still not letting her have full run of the house with the other dogs, although they see each other through the gate and and sniff at one another. We will work on that aspect very slowly. In my opinion Julie would do the best in a home with no cats and possibly be the only dog. She still acts up when another dog walks by, I make her sit if we are in the yard and someone is walking their dog past us. She remains in a sit stay with a few reminders but I also block her line of vision with my body and they after the other dog is out of site I distract her by playing ball. She'll still go and look in the direction of where she last saw the "intruder" but does not try and go after them. Julie is a high maintenance kind of girl but full of love. She makes us laugh every day! She it a total nut when it comes to playing in the hose, she loves water!! She bite at the water then put her head down so she gets sprayed right in the face and then will turn her body so she's totally soaked! Someone took the time to train her, she will sit, stay, (with some reminders) lay down,  come, drop the ball, and heel. Her only downfall is if she sees a cat (or something small) or another dog. Her small prey drive is quite large. However, she does now leave the bird that's in our living room in the cage alone. She used to try and get in with the bird, the bird did NOT find this fun at all! Julie still doesn't relax much when inside, she paces from room to room or window to window, I can get her to lay down and rub her belly but the first sound she hears and its "up and at 'em".
One thing about Julie, is that she NEVER runs out of kisses!

6/17/07 - I'm please to introduce my new foster to you, her name is Julie and she is an owner surrender. Julie has been here a week now and according to the paperwork her owner did not have enough time for her, and I also believe they said they were moving.  She is very high strung and is extremely nervous. Her small prey drive is huge, she will go after anything smaller than she is. This includes squirrels, rabbits, birds and especially cats! When she sees something small she will rear up on her hind legs and kind of scream and try to get at whatever it is that has her attention. I have been working on this as much as I can with her considering right now she has kennel cough so I haven't been able to walk her without her having coughing fits so I've limited her exercise until she is feeling better then we will be back to walking 2 miles a day. This long walk helps her to release some of her pent up energy as well as give me the needed time to work on her prey drive. I have also put her on an herb that hopefully will help calm her down some.

She has met my other two boxers but I'm keeping them separated until the kennel cough is better. When she first came he would go crazy at the site of my dogs, no that she's been here a week she can walk by the kitchen gate with my two on one side and she just walks by like it's no big deal. Anything that I try with this girl I'm taking my time with. She is such a nervous wreck that I don't want to overwhelm her. So each new thing takes three times as long but in the long run I believe this will benefit Julie.

Julie loves people, especially my husband, when we gave her a bath she gave him kisses the entire time. She loves my boys and gets all wiggly when they come home from school and go into the room where her crate is. She doesn't have food aggression with people. She is fine getting "cookies" with the other two but needs to learn patience . She gets hers last and she just needs to relax and realize she'll get hers too. She'll lay down in the crate so that they can pet her and tell her how sweet she is. She's great in the crate, like most dogs she'd prefer to be out but she goes in with a stern "IN" and doesn't give me much trouble after she's inside. She'll sometimes whine but if I get her another stern "NO" she quiets right down. She won't come out of the crate until you tell her "OK" and then she walks out. She is calmest in the crate but hopefully I will be able to get her to calm down. After her kennel cough is gone we will SLOWLY work on letting her out in the other rooms of the house.

I think Julie will be a great dog for someone who knows the boxer breed and has time to work with her. She needs a steady hand since she does have a dominate personality. If you give this girl and inch I think she'll take about 5 miles. She wants to please but only when she's in the mood. If you think you have what it takes to give this girl  the home she deserves, please fill out an application.
