8/5/09 - I have renamed her Talula, and she is a true gift from God.  She just passed her Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Therapy Dog (TDI) test.  She has been such a love since the day I brought her home.  She is not always fond of other female dogs, but she loves everyone else.  I hope to bring her to visit the elderly or ill childen in her new capacity as a therapy dog.

10/11/08 - Katie has been adopted

10/10/08 - Katie is pending adoption

10/3/08 - So sorry we didn't write sooner . . . life "stuff" just took over and I didn't get a chance to sit down and write an entry.  Now that things have settled down a bit, I can tell you just how wonderful this girl is!  We picked Katie up last Saturday and right from the start she was full of boxer kisses and cuddles.  She is quite possibly the easiest "guest" I have had at my home.  She has not whined, cried, barked or complained once!  Actually, she did bark, when the doorbell rang . . . she is protective.  And to that attribute I'll add she does not like "fighting" of any kind.  My two dogs (Lucy and Travis), have a type of play that sometimes  looks aggressive - she did not like this, and tried to break them apart.  As stated by the previous foster mom, she probably is quite close to the "perfect" pooch.  There is one area where I think she needs a little work on, if the forever home has more than one dog, and that is sharing toys/bones.  She seems to be a bit possessive, but we will work on this.  Katie is such a love, she would be great for any family because she would meld to anyone's needs.  She loves to be outside and inside, play and cuddle, walk and lie around, best of all she listens!!!  She stays, sits, lies down - better than my own dogs!

9/22/08 - Katie could quite easily be considered the “perfect dog”!  We picked her up yesterday afternoon, and right from the beginning she was such a pleasure to have.  She greeted us with boxer wiggles and kisses, and had no issues with meeting us or getting into our car. She was very quiet and well-behaved the whole car ride and we even stopped at PetSmart to get her some food on the way home where she met another dog, several adults who wanted to pet her and a small child, and she just sat down and allowed them to approach her.  She is so very sweet to all she meets!
When we got home, we took her for a long walk- she walks very nicely on the leash, with very little reminders to stay at your side.  She is an extremely calm low energy dog, and very gentle.  She is very overweight, and could stand to lose several pounds, so she gets easily winded and probably should not do too much strenuous exercise until she drops some weight.  She also has a very short muzzle, which makes her overheat easily in combination with the extra weight.  She would be perfect for a family who wants a low key, very well-behaved dog.  Her tail is virtually non-existent, so when she gives her boxer wiggles, her whole butt wiggles with it. J  She makes lots of eye contact, and always looks for direction- a sign of an obedient, submissive and easy to handle dog.  She follows me around and comes when called, and even knows a few commands.  We introduced her to some neighborhood kids, ages ranging from 4-8, and she sat down while they approached and let them pet her.  She needed no corrections, and was very gentle with them.  She would be a perfect family dog with any age child.  She also likes other dogs very much.  We introduced her to one of my males, who tends to be dominant, and he loves her and she was even pretty curious about him.  Since it was the first day, I did not allow them to play, even though the body language was good, and with one small “shhtt” they both stopped and looked at me and gave me a look like “ok mom, we’ll be good for now”.  My other male, however, is not very polite with other dogs, and introductions did not go well.  Even after a long walk together, he tried to bite her, and she just looked at him like “hey, what gives?”  She lay down right next to him, and ignored him through all of his attempts to get at her.  We have them separate for now so they get can get used to each other’s scent, and will try again in a week or so.  Katie was very willing to be his friend, so it is not her fault at all.
Katie spent the night in our office, which is a large room with a futon and desk in it.  She was a very good girl, and there were no accidents or even an attempt to get on the futon.  She did not whine or make signs of displeasure.  I think she loves being in a home again, since she has been boarded at a vet office for the past several months.  She ate very well for us, and has a great appetite and a regular “schedule” of elimination.  She does has a lifelong recurrence of urinary tract infections, so she is on cranberry capsules with her food daily, which are inexpensive and easily found at any pharmacy supplement aisle.
Don’t hesitate to get your application in for this one- she is the sweetest dog we have ever met- one in a million!
