6/209 - Hi! I hope that all is well. I just wanted to let you know that Hudson is still doing great. He loves that it's baseball season. We live near a ball field in the city and he loves to walk the perimeter and steal forgotten baseballs. He averages 4 balls a week. His health is great. My husband and I love him a ton and can't thank y'all enough!

4/5/09 - Hi! I just wanted to let y'all know that Hudson is doing really well. He had a cancer scare in November and went through the surgery with flying colors. He turned 10 in January, but he definitely does not act like an elderly boxer. He demands a walk every other hour on the weekends b/c he loves to run and play and enjoy the sunshine. Everyone that we meet loves him and he kidney beans and licks in return. He still doesn't like German Shepherds, but most other dogs he loves and dogs love him. In fact, he has a Greyhound girlfriend and a young boxer girlfriend. When we travel he stays with my in-laws in Long Island with their dogs (bulldog, pug, and hound) and he easily adjusts to the routine there and is an affectionate member of the family. Adopting Hudson (formerly known as Katso) has been an absolute pleasure. I hope that he continues to stay healthy and energetic so we can enjoy him for many more years. Thanks again to everyone at BAR who made this adoption possible.

11/5/08 - Hudson is having a blast. He has doggie play time every day and he and a 13mth boxer "box" every night. All of our security, concierge, and doormen love him. Even the dry cleaners give him a treat every day. When my husband was out playing ball with him in the field, a lady said, "oh so this is the handsome boxer that lives in 180," apparently the word has spread about BAR and Hudson. Nobody can believe that he is 9 1/2. Anyways , thank you again so much and I will be in touch with Gail about volunteering. Best, Kelly

10/08 - Katso now named Hudson has been adopted

9/11/08 - Katso is pending adoption with his foster family.
Katso still has parasites and is super picky about his food. The vet thinks that this is due to the parasites, but my husband and I are trying to get him to eat dog food (he loves human food). Katso does well being alone in the apartment even though he has diarreah every time he goes to the bathroom, he has never had an accident in the house. :o) Katso loves playing with squeak toys and still enjoys his hour long walks along the water front. I can't wait for his stitches to heal so he can play in the park some more. He is such a sweet heart and if you see him, you will quickly get attached.

9/6/08 - Katso was neutered on Thursday and during the surgery, it was found that his top teeth were making holes into his gums. The vet corrected it and said that the holes were making it way too painful for Katso to eat dry food. The two days since the surgery he has been resting nicely. He hates his e-collar, (but really who wouldn't, that thing is huge), but he only has to wear it when we are not home. I think the medicine that Katso is on (2 for pain, 2 for parasites) is making him sleepy but his appetite has increased and he likes eating wet food. Other than what was stated above, the vet said that Katso is about as healthy as a 9 1/2 year old boxer can be. Today Katso and my husband met me at the finish line during a race in Central Park. Katso did well with the kids, dogs, and people who came up to him.  This is a super sweet dog who just wants to be loved.

8/31/08 - Today my husband I took Katso to Central Park. On the way there we stopped at a pet store and bought him a ball. He loved it! It was as if the ball took 5 years off his life b/c he was jumping and acting like a young dog. He insisted on carrying his ball all the way to the park. While at the park, we sat in the shade and watched the horses and people. He was great when some moms with their toddlers' came up to see him. He licked their faces. When a siren went by he got up and barked. He also barked at 2 huskies that were walking towards him. He does tend to bark at huskies, but we are not sure if it was the fact that they were a certain breed or if they were too close to his ball. We will figure it out.
He is starting to eat a little more. He loves burgers, roast beef, and cheese.  He is a complete sweet heart and everyone that he meets loves him. My husband and I love him a ton and look forward to many more Central Park experiences with him.

8/28/08 - Katso has been doing really well since arriving on Monday. He heels on walks and does not pull as much as he did on the first day when he sees dogs. People come up to us and make comments on him all of the time. I even had 2 guys on jet skis come up to the railing and state how good looking he is. They were shocked when I told him that I have only had him for 3 days because he is really comfortable with me. He is eating a little now. He loves hamburgers and anything related to beef. He enjoys taking long walks and licking people.

He went to the vet for the first time today. I was nervous in the waiting room because there were loose dogs and cats milling about. He got a little excited around cats and was good with the dogs. During his exam he jumped up and licked the Dr. but did not like it when he had to have stuff done to him. However, after the exam, he was back to his old licky self.
Yesterday I left Katso alone again in the bedroom and he was fine. So, the next test was to see how he would do with the run of the apt. I left him alone to go down to the grocery store. I was gone for 15 min and when I came back up he was whining at the door. I tend to think that he likes the safety of the bedroom b/c that is where his bed is and he is confined. I will try leaving him alone with the run of the apt. another time in the future. Until then, I just want him to feel safe and happy and will keep him in the bedroom.
Again, this is a GREAT dog and will be a perfect addition for any family.

8/26/08 - Katso is still adjusting to his foster home. He slept well last night and only woke up a couple of times to walk to the bed and kiss us and then he went back to sleep. He got up for the day at 7AM. I took him on several walks and he LOVES being outside! Whoever adopts this adorable boy must have access to either a park or a yard b/c Katso is in heaven outside. He was great with the people he encountered but sometimes he gets too excited and jumps up to kiss them. A little boy was excited to see him and Katso was very gentle, but wanted to "hug" him which made the boy laugh. I pulled him down and kept him close and he refrained from "hugs" after that. The dogs that we encountered I came to realize that Katso's manners are a little off. Though he just wants to play and rarely barks, he also goes under the other dog's chest which flips them and makes them upset versus going around back to sniff. When he becomes neutered and spends more time with other dogs, he should be able to develop better manners. :o)
I left Katso alone for 4 hours today. I tried the crate and he whined a lot, so then I put him in our bedroom and shut the door. When I came back he was fine. His dog bed is in there and he often likes to just hang out in the bedroom, so after 4 hours he was happy to see me and the room was untouched. :o)
The only worry that I have is that he is still not eating. I got him to eat chicken soft treats yesterday and hand-fed him so wet Beneiful. Today he refuses all food (wet food and white rice) and treats and has only eaten grass. :o( I will try everything in my power to fatten him up b/c his ribs are sticking out way too much.
Once again, people that I meet on our walks LOVE him and I LOVE him as well. This is a super sweet boy who will enrich a family's life if given the chance.

8/25/08 - Katso arrived today with plenty of kisses for all who came in contact with him. He is a very skinny boy who still seems to be too distraught over his owner's passing to eat. I will be working on fattening him up ASAP. After letting him explore my building (my husband and I live in a one bedroom apt.) Katso and I went for a walk in the park across the way. He was very excited to see other dogs and was a little too "friendly" with some and knocked them over as he sniffed them. Other dogs barked at him and he just looked at them. He did pull every time he saw a dog, but I was able to control him. He loves people and kisses everyone and anyone. After our walk we went upstairs and we played with his squeak toy. He was very gentle playing and kept dropping the toy in my lap. Katso does not jump on furniture amazingly enough. He will put his front paws on the couch to lick you, but that's it. Oh, when I say he licks, he will lick you for 10 min straight. Sleeping wise, he napped on the rug in front of me and if I get up, he wakes up and follows me around. So I am trying not to move b/c his eyes are so bloodshot and he needs his rest.  I wish that I could get some food in him, but that will come with time. People that have seen him, love him and comment on his beauty. :o) I will send updates again soon and let y'all know how he does at night and left alone. I am a teacher, so luckily I have time to work with him before school starts. Whoever adopts him will have a wonderful boxer.
My husband just came home and Katso LOVES him. He listens to every command etc. with me, Katso would ignore my commands, but with him, he can whisper the command and he will do it.
This sweet boy won't last long, I know it, so please get those apps in for him!

8/24/08 - Katso was picked up by one of our NJ volunteers and had a sleepover at her home.  Here are her comments on him:
"He is very sweet and handsome.  He is very laid back, friendly and way toooooo skinny.  He wouldn't eat the dry food alone so I put some beneful wet food with it and he gobbled it up.  He walks very nice on the leash and goes to the door when he wants to go out.  He knows the basic commands and is proving to be the perfect house guest.  I am sure his foster home wont have any problems with this great guy.  OH, did I mention how HANDSOME he is??????????  I will drop him off to his foster mom tomorrow afternoon."
