10/11/08 - Suge has been adopted

10/5/08 - In the beginning of every relationship those involved are on their best behavior. After you get use to each other then you relax and become your true self.
My mom calls this “exhaling”.  I believe this is true for dogs as well as for people. Well Suge has exhaled. He is still an awesome boy but he is now started to show me his little quirks.
The first one is hilarious.  He makes this noise between a howl and a bark in order to get my attention.  I know I should tell him NO but it is so cute, I find myself saying “say momma” because he mimics your tone with the howl.
The second quirk is attacking the lawn mower.  Most boxers seem to do this so I guess it isn’t too much of a quirk.
The  next one is that he has become very stubborn on walks.  He LOVES them and if he isn’t done when you are he will Stop. No matter how much I pull him he won’t move.  At one point his harness starts to come over his head.  I don’t want.  To teach him that this is acceptable so I drop the leash and continue walking to the house.  He does follow in a minute or two.
Anyway,  he still an awesome dog.  The neighbors kids came over to play with him a couple of days ago.  He soaked up the attention and was such a sweet boy.

10/3/08 - Suge is pending adoption.

9/28/08 - This weekend I took Suge to my parents house for a visit.  He was EXCELLENT!  He met their two boxers and had no issues socializing with them.  He was a complete gentleman in their house.   We took a few walks around their neighborhood and he was easy to walk (I walk him using a harness).  I ran out front to my car and I didn't realize that the door didn't latch full so Suge followed me out off leash and stayed by my side while a family with a dog walked by.  I am so impressed with him.   He is an absolute gem.

9/27/08 - Suge spend the weekend at grandma's house and here is what she had to say about him:  I had Suge overnight from Friday to Saturday.  I can’t imagine why his owners, for his whole life, would give him away. He is so laid back, a good walker, great with other dogs, great with people and kids. He is so good!!!  He listens, is a very relaxed boxer boy.  My female Sugar was bugging him and he was ok with that.  My boxer Moe (male) was also bugging Suge and he was fine with that too.  If I didn’t already have 2 boxers I would adopt him in a minute.  The family said he excessively drools so they felt they could no longer keep him.  My boxer, Moe, excessively drools and Suge can’t hold a candle to Moe.  Suge did not drool at my house at all.  Even if Suge does drool it’s easy to just wipe up.  Whoever adopts this boy will be very fortunate.

9/24/08 - I can't say enough great things about Suge.  He is one of the most wonderful boxers.  He loves people especial kids.  He loves walks, car rides playing and cuddling.  He only goes on furniture if invited.  He can be left in the house by himself without doing anything bad.  He has learned the command "leave it" and "be nice".  He is great around my cats inside that house and doing better each day with the outdoor cats.  He will no longer chase the outdoor cats but will follow them constantly until they turn and swat him.  He is great with my male boxer now and they play.  I still keep the feeding separate because he eats quickly and my boxer is a very slow eater.  I am now able to take him to a large field to have free run time and he comes back immediately when called.  He also has increase his stamina to a three mile walk. The drooling that I saw the first week has stopped.  The only time he drools now is when we are eating dinner (which is normal for all my dogs).  He has found his voice and will bark occasionally for play or attention but as soon as I say "enough" he stops.  Get your application in for this wonderful boy, they don't get better than this!

9/15/08  - Suge was surrender by his owners on Saturday.  They are moving into a new home and didn't want to bring him with them since he drools excessively (see below for my explanation).  They purchased him from a pet store at 4 months old.  His birthday is 8/14/01.  He has been living with children all his life and is excellent around them.  He is fully housebroken and well mannered in a home so he doesn't need a crate. He loves toys and loves to play.  He is excellent in the car and enjoys the ride.  He doesn't go on furniture except for sneaking up on the bed at night.
Suge has been with me since Saturday. He is such a sweet boy and behaves nicely.  He absolutely loves people.  We took a walk last night and he wanted to great everyone we met with boxer wiggles.  He is very unsure of other dogs so he will dominant them upon meeting them.  If you say a firm NO, he stops immediately.  On Saturday he did not get along with my male boxer but today they are doing fine together.  He is fine around my female dog.
I introduced him to my cats and he was very curious.  If they come up to him, he gets scared and moves away.  But if they run, he will chase them.   Again, he listens well so a firm NO so far has stopped him from bothering them.  Above I put down unknown for cats because I think he could live with a cat eventually if someone takes the time to teach him not to chase them.  I am working on that now.
Also, Suge loves water.  The problem is he can't swim.  Yesterday, he jumped in the pool with us and sunk.  I thought that would teach him not to jump in again but it didn't he tried several more times to get in the pool to be with us.  I have been trying to teach him how to swim but his back end just keeps sinking.  So, who ever adopts him must keep this in mind for his safety.
So, about the excessive drooling.  I don't consider it excessive but it is more than a typical boxer.  When he gets nervous, excited or too hot he drools (more like foaming at the mouth).  The drool is very slow so you have plenty of time to grab a paper towel and wipe it before it hits the floor.  The previous owner said they took him to the vet but their vet could find anything wrong.
This boxer boy is wonderful and would make a great addition to any home.  Please consider giving this wonderful boy a forever home to call his own.
