6/12/07 - Baby is pending adoption

6/11/07 - JUST A LITTLE UPDATE ON BABY .BABY IS DOING WELL AND I CAN FINALLY SAY ALL HER SORES ARE FULLY HEALED.  HER COAT IS GROWING BACK , NICE & HEALTHY.  I HAVE HAD PEOPLE SAY,  "IS THAT THE SAME DOG ?"  THEY REMEMBER SEEING HER WHEN I FIRST GOT HER.  THEY CAN'T BELIEVE HOW GOOD SHE LOOKS.  SHE HAD FINALLY MADE FRIENDS WITH BELLA AND  SHE LOVES TO CHASE BELLA IN THE YARD.  SHE IS VERY QUICK AND TO SAY THE LEAST, FOR THIS LITTLE GIRL , SHE HAS QUITE THE STRENGTH BEHIND HER.  SHE JUST LOVES TO PLAY BALL AND CAN ALSO ENTERTAIN HERSELF.  SHE WILL CATCH THE BALL IN MID-AIR.  SHE IS VERY OBEDIENT AND  I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THIS DOG DOESN'T REQUIRE  OBEDIENCE TRAINING POST ADOPTION.  I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THIS DOG WAS FOUND ASTRAY  AS SHE IS AS SWEET AS THEY CAN COME.  I HAD THE TWO DOGS OUT WALKING
DOWN BY THE RIVER OVER THE WEEKEND AND AGAIN SHE WAS WELL BEHAVED ON THE LEAD.  SHE DID A LITTLE PULLING, BUT I THINK SHE WAS JUST EXCITED.  AFTER BEING INTO THE WALK FOR AWHILE SHE STOPPING PULLING AND COULDN'T WAIT TO GET BACK TO THE TRUCK.  I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS WATER THAT SHE WANTED, NOPE , SHE WANTED TO GO HOME.   SHE LOVES TO  RIDE AND IS  WELL BEHAVED IN TRUCK .

6/4/07 - Baby had her recheck on Friday.  Dr.  Fay was very impressed with baby's skin condition  and she has ruled out any form of mange or yeast infection on the skin.  Baby still continues to scratch herself  and now we are not sure if this is nerves or some type of allergy.   Dr. Fay has placed baby on prednisone & cephalexin.   It has only been since Friday and I am seeing less & less scratching  and she seems to be more comfortably & coming around more.  Friday evening I had the dogs outside playing Frisbee and  I can actually say  they played together.  Baby was chasing Bella around the yard to get the frisbee from her.  She is so quick and a few times was able to snatch the frisbee from Bella. It's a joy watching her coming around.  Baby especially loves to play ball.   She will fetch & bring it back to you.  She knows the commands of sit, stay, come, down & beg.  This is so cute to watch.  She is an excellent watch dog and is very gentle on lead.  She will walk right by your side and there doesn't seem to be any issues with being distracted  by animals nor people on the outside.  She is house trained but has had a few accidents in the house which I think is due to the medication she is on, as she is also drinking more water.  Baby isn't an outdoor dog.  She is always so eager to come back in, where it's more comfortable.  I think she has spent a lot of time outdoors wherever she came from.  She has quite a bit of callus build up & there where are few times she pooped & peed on the pavement instead of  the grass area which was right there in the yard.  So this leads me to believe she was use to hard ground.  Baby filling out nicely & her coat is looking so much  healthier ,no more sores.  I can truly say that baby does well with other dogs and there are no issues with feeding time.  Baby & Bella eat side by side just perfectly.  Last but not least
...........keep up the good work, BAR ....Keep sending those good fosters my way.......  ;)

6/1/07 - Baby's sores are healing , well some .It seems to be a slow process, along with this she still carries an odor to this skin condition.  She also is receiving two baths a week, this seems to help with some of the itching.  She had finished her baytril.  When I asked Dr. Fay about the baytril ,she stated, when finished, she would recheck her.  Baby goes in this coming Fri. for a recheck, in the mean time she is taking a Benadryl for now.  The sores are mainly on her underside, legs, chest and face area.  I have a cone around her for the times I can't be available to watch her but this cone is way to heavy, it's a heavy duty type plastic ,it's so heavy , it weighs it's self down.  It's all the vet  had in
stock, it's not working too well for her. I am going to stop at pet smart after work as they have the thinner cones, this is more suitable for her.  Monday I had attend a picnic at my former foster, Daisy's home, and I forgot when I left to place the cone around baby ,when I arrived home Baby had chewed her tail all up, I noticed the blood all on carpet and that's when I discovered her tail.  She had never did this before.  The tail didn't seems to be affected by this skin condition and the other thing I noticed, she has a little sore around her nose as well.  I get a feeling this is more than a  bacterial infection.  I wish I knew more.  I will keep you informed after baby's visit to vet this coming Friday.  Baby & Bella are doing well together, they do get along but baby only plays a little with her, most of the time baby is very laid back . My Bella is very playful for 3 yrs & very high energy dog.  I'm not sure if this comes from baby not feeling good.  Today she & Bella get there second  treatment for the worms and again in 3 months.

5/24/07 - Latest news on baby ................
I finally put her to the test & she passed with flying colors. This was the first time since she arrived here, that I went out was gone for 2 1/2 hours , I let her have the run of the house along with my other fur baby (Bella) & when I arrived back ,everything was fine, not a thing wrong. She had always been crated while I was away previously.  I did this not trusting the two dogs together but Baby is starting to play with Bella now so this is good news & Baby is coming around more each day .

5/23/07 - Baby had another bath last night.  She was so good about it too, what a sweet girl she is. This seems to reduce the itching and her wounds are healing nicely and her coat is coming in looking so healthy.  I am seeing a big difference & she is eating good.  I wonder if she is eating too much but I'm not really that concerned as she needs to put weight on.  She was only 44 lbs. when she came to me and she is already starting to fill out nicely and I'll get her to a good weight again. One last thing I wanted to mention was that I can't seems to find anything wrong with this BABY GIRL .......... Another good foster!

5/22/07 - Just a little update on how baby is doing.  She was briefly looked at today by Dr.Fay and she sees a big improvement in baby's skin condition.  She had advised me to continue the medication till it's gone & will check her in week or two.  She is hoping this is a bacterial infection instead of some sort of skin allergy.  I will update this once I know more.  Baby is getting a bath once a week but I think I will make it two baths a week.  I went out over the weekend and picked up some natural care shampoo & a spray for hot spots.  This shampoo  uses the power of tea tree oil to remove dandruff flakes, and provide fast relief from itching caused by flea allergy dermatitis, allergies or other skin problems and moisturizes and rejuvenates the skin and coat.  I haven't used it yet but Dr.Fay did say that I was doing a good job w/ baby, she was impressed with her skin coat.  This was a brief look over only.  After last week of treating her for worms, Baby & Bella came down with a cough & sneezing/  I was wondering if it had something to do with the worm medication.  I truly believe that baby had kennel cough but just took a while to come out.  She is eating & playing & going potty and no fever.  The vet said to just let it run it's course unless she becomes  lethargic.  She is also on baytril and taking  Benadryl.  My Bella had a bordetella given but wasn't due till Sept.  Once baby is feeling fine
I'm going to get her a bordetella, at my expense.  She will than be updated with her distemper shot as that wasn't given at the shelter where she came from and will also need to be spayed.
I also wanted to mention that I think baby was an only pet.  I will say this, she does want to play with my fur baby and vise versa, a few times they did  but it was very short. They do get along , they don't fight.  There was just really one time they did get into it but it was short lived as I stopped it with a command.  This accident happened as I was opening can dog food behind my back.  I think baby thought she had to fight for food.  I am now feeding them side by side and they are okay with it.  I think baby knows now she doesn't have to fight for food as she isn't on the streets any more so I don't think there is any issues with her an another dog in the home.  I will keep you posted
on this matter,as baby has only been here a couple of weeks and is now starting feeling like herself .

5/17/07 - Baby had her wellness exam on Monday.  It appears after several skin scrapings that Baby has a bad bacterial infection going on.  She was given a medicated bath, along with an  antihistamine to relieve the itching.  She
is also taking baytril twice a day & an over the counter Benadryl.  She also was loaded with a couple different type worms, she is being treated for that too. This poor girl, being kicked to the curb and no one to love & care for her, it's no wonder why her system was depleted, not too mention this girl had just recently had pups, god only knows what
happened to those poor babies.  You can see, she also had been in some fights while out on the street.  This girl is so sweet she will melt your heart, all she wants is Love.  I can't leave this girl's sight , she comes looking for me if I walk into another room, she has instantly bonded with me.  Last night was the first night since she arrived that she
hopped in bed with me, most of the time she would sleep on the dog bed's or couch.  She is feeling better as the days past and it's nice to see her feeling good & happy and her skin is looking so much better.  Soon
she will have a good looking healthy coat again, soon to be FUR BABY  !

5/13/07 - Baby has finally arrived and she seems to be happy to being back in home. A as we go out to potty, she is very eager to come back in.  It appears to me that she, at one point in her life, had a decent home life.  She performed well on the first command of "sit " for a cookie bone and had no issues & even gave her paw.  She also comes when I call her name & is very gentle about taking food from my hand.  As far as the other basic commands, I am not sure as she just arrived yesterday.
She is house trained, though she did have an accident this morning as I was getting ready to take her out.  I did have to step out today & she had no issues with going in the crate.  When I arrived home she was sleeping, so no problems with a crate.  I have noticed her drinking a lot of water but this might be due to the medicine she is on. She has a very bad case of some sort of skin condition going on. She is at the point of digging herself so bad that her skin now bleeds. I gave her a bath last night in what is called EPI- SOOTHE, which helps relieve dry, itchy, sensitive skin. This seems to help make her more comfortable ..a little.  She sure did lose a lot of hair in that bath so we are not going to called her a FUR BABY right now.  She goes in tomorrow for her wellness exam and I will update her skin condition as I know more. She right now is on  Baytril, she gets 1 tablet every 12 hours for 10 days, this also seems to help a little
Baby hasn't  taking an interest in my fur baby, she is okay with her but has not yet even played with her.  She will play ball with people though.  A couple of times both dogs got into it and I think my Bella got up in her face & she didn't like that.  I know baby isn't feeling well as she is very bothered by this nasty skin condition so I would say this is totally understandable at this point.  Once I know more I will update .Oh ..........don't I have the cutest little baby face .
