3/12/11 - Video of Cisco and his foster family.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rCxKHUCN_8
11/17/10 -
Cisco is doing great, and looking GREAT!! He has all his fur back,
and he has put on plenty of happy weight. He gets along great with
his 2 fur brothers and his fur sister. He may be a little older,
but he is in no way ready for retirement. This guy has a great
energy. He loves to play with his foster brother’s & sister. Loves
to play ball. And LOVES to show off his tricks. Cisco is a great
dog, and he deserves a great home.
Are you ready for a
big teddy bear??
Christmas is
right around the corner and Cisco would love the gift of a forever
home. And this boy has been waiting a long time for his forever
home. He’s waited patiently and It’s time for this guy to have a
place to call his own. When we asked Cisco what kind of home he
wanted, he said he would really love a home with a fireplace because
he loves to lay by the fire. But he said its not mandatory, just a
preference. He said all he really needs is someone to give him a
chance, and a good belly rub. Now, that’s not asking for much.
If you’re looking for
a loyal, easy, big boy, this is the guy for you. And don’t let his
gray hair fool you, it is only to add to his “distinguished” look,
and by no means slows this guy down.
Sidenote: Cisco won’t
fit into a stocking in case you wanted to surprise someone with him,
but maybe a refrigerator box would be a better size. :)
8/15/10 - Here is a video of Cisco - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewiniHsXhPs&feature=channel 6/30/10 - Well Cisco has been here about a month now and is doing fine. He has to know where you are all the time. once he does and you stay put he will go find his own spot to curl up and nap. He has not had any accidents in the house and gets along with his 3 foster fur siblings. He is dominant when he wants to play with them but he dont mean no harm you tell him to be nice and he tries to be nice. He always looks to go for rides in the truck. He is in his crate while I am out usually 5 hrs in the am and 4 in the afternoon. He sleeps on the floor next to the bed @ night. He loves to get treats and to be petted and he'll roll over in a heart beat to get his belly rubbed. He does need a strong leader and introductions to human males must be slow but after he gets to know them he is fine.He likes to go for walks also. 6/3/10 - This will be my last update for Cisco. He will be moving to a new foster home on Saturday. He has been a very good guest but I am having surgery and can not foster for a while. Cisco is usually a very sweet, gentle boy but he can also be mouthy and sassy. He is still unsure when meeting new people - especially men - and he will growl and/or bark at them. It works well if visitors meet Cisco with " no touch, no talk, no eye contact" and let Cisco approach them. He is also sensitive to grabbing his collar, things coming at his face and someone touching his feet. In these situations he can be mouthy - always gentle and never aggressive - but still mouthy. He would do well in a home with an experienced and strong pack leader. He really wants to please his people and he wants to be with them. Cisco does well in a crate. He is a barker if he knows his people are home but he has been crated 8 to 10 hours without a problem. Often in the evening, he will go into his crate to rest while we are watching TV. Memorial weekend, Cisco went with us to our cottage and got to go to the beach and play in the water. I've included some pictures. He gets along well with other dogs but he does not play well with them. He is very dominant when he plays and doesn't seem to know how to play with toys. He'd rather go after the other dogs than fetch a stick/toy. That will need some more work. I know Cisco will do well in his new foster home and I will miss him. Good luck Cisco - I hope you find your forever home soon. 5/8/10 - Cisco reporting today, since foster mom hasn't been writing about me lately. Guess she's been busy with the garden and getting ready for surgery. I had a surprise last Saturday. Foster mom and dad were loading all kinds of things into the car so I jumped in - didn't want them to forget me. I love car rides. Finally mom and dad and Star got in and off we drove - and drove and drove and drove and ..... I didn't think they would ever stop and let me out of the car - not that I really cared because I just laid down and slept. Finally we stopped but we weren't home but in a strange little room. Then the next day we did it all again until we got to a place they called Florida. We got to stay there for a few days in a nice big house and I got to run around with Star in the yard. However it all seemed very strange to me. Now after another very, very long car ride, we are all back at mom and dad's house. I'm glad to be home. , Mom says I'm a good boy most of the time. She isn't always happy when I help myself to things on the table and counter. She did tell me that at least I was smart about what I ate. I ate the McDonald's apple slices and dipping sauce but I didn't eat the packaging. Mom says I need to work on counter-surfing but she will try to keep tempting items where I can't reach them., I'm still waiting for my forever home - although wish I could stay with my foster family. Mom says she hopes I'm adopted soon because she is not going to be able to take care of me. That worries me - I don't want to be without a home. I promise I'll be a really good dog for anyone giving me "rules, boundries, and limitations" -- oh, and don't forget lots of love, attention and exercise. I have lots of big kisses, nubby wiggles, and devotion to give in return. How can you pass up a bargain like that!!!!! 4/9/10 - Cisco got to visit the vet again last week. He had been doing a lot of scratching and head shaking, which the vet thinks may be caused by allergies.. He checked Cisco's ears but did not find any infection or ear mites so he started Cisco on some cortisone pills. Cisco has gained a few pounds and is now back to 83 lbs. , Cisco continues to be a very good boy. He is listening better and accepting me as pack leader. Now when he tries to get into the cat room all I need to do is tell him to "go" and "leave them" and he will move from in front of the door. Usually I only have to tell him this once. Of course, it's not all his fault - one of my cats likes to play "footsie" underneath the door just to tease Cisco. , Since the weather was really nice this last week, Cisco has been outside more. I gave him more time off leash and he stayed around quite well. Also he was good with "recall". So far his off leash time is limited and supervised but Cisco has done well. It helps that he really wants his treat when he comes back inside. He will sometimes bark until he gets the treat but he is the first one sitting to get it. Cisco can be very vocal when he wants something and he has quite a variety of sounds. Sometimes he sounds like Chewbacca from Star Wars. I just have to laugh at him when he starts his "talking". Cisco is a very smart, sweet, easy going boy. He has a moderate energy level so he would do well in an active home. He needs a strong pack leader - to set the rules, boundaries and limitations - because he can be pushy. I don't let him get away with much. In return. he will reward his people with lot of wiggles and devotion and love. Please consider making Cisco part of your family. Also check out his picture slide show at www.onetruemedia.com 3/29/10 - Cisco continues to be a very good member of my pack. His thyroid test results are in: the T4 was just a little low and the free T4 was normal. The vet didn't recommend any treatment at this time. Cisco still is scratching himself in spots but the hair on his flanks has started to grow back so he is looking a lot better. His right side is almost covered but his left side is still bald in spots. , Cisco is very well behaved except for being obsessive about my cats. He knows sit, stay, off, go, come, down, give a paw, other paw, leave it, OK - and probably a lot more. When he is told "down" - he lays down and rolls over onto his back with his feet in the air and will stay like that until released. I've included a picture of him "playing dead" because he will stay like that for a long time and he's soooo cute when he does this. Cisco has almost learned to sit and stay before he is fed. I usually only have to remind him once that he is to sit and stay out of the room until I fix the food, put it down and tell him "OK". , Cisco walks very very nicely on a leash. I walked him and Star down my road - Star pulled all the way, Cisco hardly at all. I just wish I were physically able to walk him more often. He has a lot of energy and I'm not giving him enough exercise. He has walked on the treadmill a couple times and - now that the weather is nicer - he has run outside a few times. I don't quite trust him off leash yet so he is usually on a long rope. He might be OK off leash but so far I've only tried it under close supervision and for very short distances. Since he likes to chase small, furry, moving things, I think he would be safer in a home with a fenced yard., Cisco has been really good with my 3 year old granddaughter - so he should be fine with children of any age. His size might be a little intimidating to some small children but he is very gentle and mostly ignores my granddaughter. He does bark at many noises and when new people come into the house but he is not a jumper. Because of his size and his barking, I usually have him on a leash until he gets used to the new people. , Cisco is ready and waiting for his forever home. Are you looking for a very sweet, gentle, well trained, handsome, BIG boxer boy? Are you ready to be firm and consistent with him - Cisco still likes to push the limits? Then Cisco is your boxer. 3/13/10 - Cisco has been here a week and has made himself at home. He and Star get along most of the time. If there is a problem it is usually Star guarding a bone or toy. At first Cisco would back down but lately he has been standing up for himself. While they make a lot of noise, that is all it is. Cisco visited the vet on Friday and weighed in at 80 lbs. His fecal and heartworm tests were negative. He had blood drawn for a repeat thyroid test but I will not have the results until next week. Cisco was a little afraid of the vet - but he tends to be very cautious around men until he knows them. The first couple days, he would growl at my husband when he came home from work . Now he is fine with my husband and he had accepted the vet by the end of our appointment. Cisco knows most commands and is good in his crate except for barking for a little while if we are home while he is in it. Most of the time he sleeps in the bedroom on a pillow on the floor - however he keeps trying to get on the bed. He doesn't like to be told "off", so we are working on that. He is good about sitting and staying before going outside - sitting and staying while waiting for his food however is still a work in progress. He's getting better but sometimes he just can't wait. Cisco will counter and garbage surf if the opportunity is there but as long as I keep things secure it has not been a problem. However he is a BIG boy - anything on the back of the dryer or stove is not safe from a guy who can easily rest his chin on the kitchen table. So far the only casualty was the cat food bowl on the back of the dryer. Cisco has found the toy box and has managed to take most of the bones out of it. He has also started playing with a few of the toys. Cisco will get along with most any dog. He met a couple lab puppies at the vets and just wanted to sniff them - no barking, pulling or aggression at all. He is dominant dog and he needs a strong pack leader. He likes to test the rules and see what he can get away with. I just try to be firm and consistent. He is a sweet boy and he deserves a forever family who will give him a loving and safe home. Get your application in for this BIG boy. 2/4/10 - Cisco has settled into his foster home, and with that he isn't as much of a fan of the crate as he was earlier. He will now bark in the crate if he sees you or knows you are home. He is so good though, he doesn't really need to be crated! He also has taken interest in his foster mom's cat, has chased the cat and pinned her down. A home without cats would be best for Cisco. He hasn't played with any toys yet, but he loves his dog bed and lounging around. Cisco also got his nails cut, which was much needed as it looked as if they were never cut before. ,,Cisco will be moving to a new foster home soon. He is going to be missed, as he has been such a good boy. Have fun in your new foster home Cisco! 3/1/10 - Cisco is doing really well. He was a good boy for his much needed bath. He didn't love the bath, but was well behaved and stood still. He walks good on a leash, he doesn't pull. Cisco is a really smart boy too! When asked to lay down, Cisco slowly rolled on his back and put all 4 paws in the air - and he held it until she told him 'OK'. He also knows sit, and takes treats very, very gently. Cisco is sweet, gentle, and an all around great pup that needs a forever family who will give him all the love he deserves.
2/26/10 - Cisco was very happy to leave the shelter today where he was
turned in as a stray. It is obvious
Cisco had a rough life until now. He has lots of scrapes and
abrasions... but he is a very sweet and gentle boy. Cisco met his
foster pups and he couldn't have cared less about them. He just wanted
to sleep on the big, fluffy, dog bed! Cisco seems to be house trained,
no accidents as of yet. He is currently taking meds for
kennel cough and
hair loss, and he will be going to the vet again shortly to
follow up on ear
infections he has. I will update more as I get to know this
sweet boy. |
