12/25/06 - Here is Bianca, a very, very cute approx 10 yr old female Pekingese. She might be mixed with something, because at 8 lbs, that is a bit small for a Peke, I would think. She was in a NYC shelter, with her brother Sergio. Why they went unclaimed, or no one at the shelter wanted to adopt them is beyond me. Bianca is clearly a very cute tiny little girl, who has a wonderful temperament. They were in the sick ward for almost 2 weeks, and the shelter called us to see if we could help. When you see this pair, what answer can you give but “of course”. They both came home and were welcomed to the pack. Bianca got along with all the dogs almost immediately. She doesn’t seek out the other dogs, but she doesn’t mind them either. She is a very mellow girl. We took her to the vet when we brought her home, as she was congested and somewhat lethargic. She has been put on Baytril for the last few weeks and we are monitoring her. Her appetite has improved, and she is a bit more active, but still seems to be congested. She did a bit better on her eye exam then her brother; her tear test came in at 10 in both eyes, (15 is normal) so the vet recommended pura lube, and over the counter eye lubricant. She lets us put it in her eyes 2-3 times daily with no problem. We are still evaluating her and her brother, to see if they will be ok to split up, in case they are both not wanted together. As you can see, Bianca is a lovely white color. She is very fluffy, which does hide a body that right now is pretty skinny. When you hold her, you can feel just how underweight she is. We are working on this slowly. She is totally housetrained, and actually has not made a sound since she has arrived. She is alert, and goes out when you ask the pack if they want to go out, and when it is meal time, she is one of the 1st to line up patiently while it is being prepared. We have enjoyed Bianca’s visit, but we know she deserves a home of her own. If you are looking for a tiny little lap dog, who can be an only dog, or blend in with others, we have your tea cup right here. Her brother, who you can read up on on his page, will make a wonderful compliment to her. Go check him out.
