Pertinent Information 4/19/04 - Well what can I say about Cali that I havent said one thousand times before??? Not too much. Cali is the most wonderful dog in the world. I just built a loft kind of thing for her in the bed of my truck (it has a cap on it). It is really cool. I can store stuff underneath but on the top of it there is a futon mattress for her for when she is riding in the back and she loves it. She met a little terrier on a hike on the "rail trail" yesterday. They instantly made good friends and it was very sweet and nice to see. Cali is usually very shy around new dogs. I think this is strange because she has a lot of friends. She regularly goes over to my buddies house where her best friend malikie, and another grumpy old dog live. My sister whom I live with acquired a 6 week old siberian husky about 3 months ago, and my brother got a 6 week old boxer boy about a month ago whom Cali gets to see often. Also my sister brings "little bear" down every couple of weeks. But still, Cali is very uncomfortable for the first hour or so with a new dog, but not this little guy she met yesterday. He wanted to be her friend so badly that she couldn't help but give in. I'm sure that it didn't hurt that he was cute as hell and about 1/4 of her size. So anyway, all is really good. We are glad that spring is finally here and as soon as I finish finals in a few weeks we can go on some camping trips. Cant wait. 8/3/03 - Hey! Sorry for being late. Cali is doing very well. She is incredibly healthy and beautiful. She is socializing very well. A few days ago I had her at a big party and she was weaving through people on a packed dance floor along with 2 other dogs. it was very cool. everyone who sees her falls in love with her instantly. she is also the smartest and most well behaved dog i have ever seen. What else can I say! She is truly perfect. Thank you BAR! I cannot find her BAR tag #. Hope that is not too important. MC and Cali 6/8/03 - Hello everyone! Thanks for sending me the reminder to update y'all. So, Lila's name has been changed to California, Cali or Cal for short. She took to her new name instantly, but like my mother said, I could change her name every day and she would adhere. I Honestly do not think that I have ever seen a happier and healthier dog than Cali. She came in great shape and I want to let everyone know that she is better and better all the time. She has gained about 10 lbs, all muscle. She has about 5 acres available to her and gets the run of it for an average of at least an hour or so a day. She has quite a few buddies that she likes to visit and play with and does so regularly. We built her a pen in the front yard. The front wall of the pen runs along the tree line so the fenced in area itself is mostly in the shade. It is chain link attached to trees as well as poles and so is irregular in shape but is 100' in circumference. There are trees inside and we will be putting in a kiddie pool as soon as it gets hot. She spends time in her pen, but only really when I am at work. Still, and since the first day I got her she gets very antsy whenever I am not around so, weather permitting, when I leave for work I put her in and she spends a couple hours running in circles tiring herself out, then someone lets her inside until I get home. She is exercise spoiled. In fact, she is spoiled with love, food, doggy friends, overnight and day trips, etc... In other words, This little girl is very well taken care of. As for her innate qualities, your description was right on the nose, and I greatly appreciate that. Only thing that was not accurate was the comment about her being a bit of a garbage picker. Maybe she was framed by another pup?? This dog is so good about food. I can throw chicken bones in the garbage in front of her and she will not even think about it. She is great with the cats, just got chickens (hope that works out ok!!), great with the kids and with all people (except for one guy and I am not sure why??), great with all other dogs. She is extremely intelligent. She responds to training almost instantaneously. She is very affectionate (the face licking in the morning can be a bit much at times, but also cute as hell and I really can't complain), and the most loyal dog I have ever seen. Fortunately with all the other people around she has chosen me as her master and literally since the first day barely leaves my side. When I am in the shower she is waiting outside the door. When I get home from work she is staring out the window, and then runs to greet me at the door. In fact (and I must admit that this is even a little strange), the only times she is more than 5 or 10 feet away from me by her own choice are when we are in our yard at home and she is running through the woods doing her thing, and when she is playing with her buddies. What I want to know is, who the hell gave up this dog????!!!! She is virtually perfect and my family, and mostly myself, are very grateful to have her in our lives. Thank you! I do have one request from you... I never received her medical records. I requested them once a couple days after she arrived and was told that they would be sent to me right away. I never received them. I also would like to know the exact date that she arrived and, if it is not on her medical records, her birthday. Can someone help me out please? Oh hey, is there any way to post a pic?? Ok, hope this wasn't too long but I can't say enough about Cali. Thank you very much. I will update again soon. Cali says woof. Michael Christie & California 2/27/03 - Lila is a 14 month old spayed up to date female in need of a loving home as soon as possible. She has the sweetest temperament. SO loving and affectionate and quite obedient. She listens well, and gets along with other dogs as well as cats. Her previous owner had 3 very young children (ages 1, 3, and 4), so to the best of my knowledge she is good with children. She is house broken and crate trained (she loves her crate!), but has had an accident or two if i don't remember to let her out after she drinks her water. She is a bit of a garbage picker in the bathroom pail, but one with a cover should be a good deterrent for her. She is a wonderful girl and will make a bright addition to a loving home with people and possibly other dogs to play with! |
