5/20/06 - Just want you to know that Coby is doing great.  I'm sure you remember him - the little brown and white shih-tzu that you fostered 2-1/2 years ago.  I adopted him on April 25, 2004.  At first, he would bite my hands a lot, but now he is the sweetest, most affectionate, and wonderful little guy in the world.  He doesn't bite at all now (thank goodness)!  He's still blind and deaf, but what a feisty little boy he is!  I just love him so much and am so grateful to you both for bringing us together.
I hope all is well with you and that your neighbors have stopped complaining about all the dogs whose lives you save.

8/9/04 - Coby was fostered by Gary and Ann from December 4, 2003 until April 25, 2004 when they brought him to my home for a first visit.  He never left!  He is a little Shih Tzu found by Animal Control in Brooklyn, NY.  He had puncture wounds, his fur was pulled out, he is almost totally blind, and his hearing is very bad.  They think he's around 10 years old.  Gary and Ann gave him lots of loving care, so by the time I got him, he was looking pretty good!  It's been around 3 months now, and Coby and I are a match made in Heaven.  He needs special handling because he can't see or hear well, and before he got to know me, he would nip at my hands whenever I went near him.  Now he cuddles in my arms and wants to be with me all the time, which is wonderful.  I'm retired and home all day, so we are so very happy together.  His fur grew back, and he looks beautiful, especially when he comes home from the groomer with his little scarf around his neck (which I remove immediately because I don't want anything at all to bother him).  I love this little boy so much, and as I told Gary, Coby and I will be together til death do us part.

5/1/04 - Coby has been adopted.

4/27/04 - Well, it's official, Mr. Coby has a home, and what a home it is! It is true, good things happen to those that wait, and this is as good as it gets.
Coby has been in rescue for a VERY long time. Coming close to 5 months. It seems like another
lifetime that I found little Coby on one of my boxer runs to the shelter. He has become a fixture at
my home, but all along we hoped that he would find a home of his very own. Well, like I said, that
day has come.
We did Coby's home visit this past Saturday, with Coby of course. From the moment he set foot in
the home, he was in heaven. A nice spacious place, with just his new mom, all to himself. She is
retired, so he will be her constant companion. Everything all on one level. JUST PERFECT!! And his new mom took an instant loving to him. A perfect match. Mom had recently lost her Shih Tzu, Skippy, after 15 yrs, and was very lonely. Well, not anymore. A perfect match.
Coby went to his new vet today, and it seems he is being adopted just in time. All his blood work
came back fine, liver and kidney functions are just where they should be, but he weighs 18 1/2 lbs
and has high cholesterol. When i pulled Coby, he weighed 12 lbs. If he stayed in foster care much
longer, we might have killed him :o)))
Mom is putting him on a special diet to help him loose some of that weight we poured on him. Coby, I miss you already, but I could not be happier for you. I know you are having a great new life, and we wish you nothing but the bet. We all know you deserve it!! Have a great life together, my little Coby man :o))

4/26/04 - Coby is pending adoption.

1/19/04 - Coby went to the vet today for a thorough look over. The vet said that the "feel" of the lumps, and their location (on the surface and loose) was something he was not concerned about. Particularly since there really has been no change in the almost 7 weeks we have had him, his advice was to continue to monitor them for any changes, but there really was no reason to put Coby thru surgery to remove them. I have TOTAL confidence in my vet, so we will follow his advice.

Coby has really turned into a very cuddly little lap dog. Now, I have still not rec'd one little kiss from this cutie, but I don't care. When I am sitting at the computer chair, and I suddenly feel those cute little paws on my legs (his way of telling me that he wants to be picked up)...well, that is all the love I need. The fact that he trusts so much now that no one is going to hurt him, that he is only going to be loved, that is all I need. This is really a very nice boy.
The vet weighed him and he has gained 2 lbs since I got him, he looks GREAT, and he also prescribed some antibiotic drops for his eyes, which he felt might help his eyes a bit. There is no doubt this boy has sight, I just don't know how much he can see.
Coby has these spurts of playfulness too. A couple of days ago he picked up one of the rope toys that my boxers play with, and started shaking it wildly, and tossing it. Where is the camera when you need it ? ...this was so cute, as this rope toy is super sized next to Coby, in fact it is longer then him.
He fits in so nicely here, but he does deserve a home of his own. Please read all his updates, and if you feel that you are the place that can give Coby what he needs, (and that would mean LOVE), please fill out an app for him. He has come so far from when we 1st got him, why not make his life complete...and YOURS?

1/4/04 - My little Coby is doing very nicely in my house. When he goes out to do his business, he is out there with all the other dogs, and he is fine. He has learned to walk up and down the stairs leading outside.
He does not care for the larger dogs getting all over him, and he lets them know it. My new foster boy Diamond had to learn that Coby doesn't want him on top of him. He is much more comfortable with the little dogs close to him. He does not mind them at all.
He has found some stuffed toys and has begun playing with them. He will shake and shake them in his mouth. I have to say, from where this boy was 1 month ago, he has come a long way.
He will do best in a pretty settled home, with older children. Children who are old enough to respect a dog and also who would understand that you have to start off slower with Coby, because he can not see perfectly, and can get startled if he is not ready for you. He knows us here now, and knows no one will hurt him. He is nice and settled, and just loves to be put on your lap and cuddled with. In fact, I think that is his favorite thing in the world. Why not give this boy a special new years present, that being a forever home with you.

12/17/03 - Our little cutie, Coby, is doing very well. He is learning his way around our down stairs, and we have found him almost jogging down here. He has a wonderful appetite, and as his fur is growing in, he is really looking very good.
He is quiet most of the time, but has a cute little growly bark when he wants attention. He has definitely gotten more comfortable with his surroundings, and does not startle as often or as easily.
He does fine around our dogs, but if a large dog takes to much interest in him, he gets a bit defensive and lets them know to give him his space.
We could not get to the vet this week, as they are all booked, so the lumps will be looked at after the holidays. In the mean time, I am going to take advantage of my time with this cute boy, getting him all ready for his forever home. Will that home be lucky enough to be yours? If you have patience to let a new dog settle in, and want to provide a loving home for a dog in need, this is just the boy for you.

12/8/03 - My Coby boy is really settling down and feeling comfortable. He is definitely housetrained, although he has had 2 peeing accidents on the tile floor. I know he is trained, because as soon as you take him out, wham, he does his business. He hangs out very comfortably with all my guys. He also “prances" around when he walks. He is healing nicely, and is taking his antibiotics with a piece of cheese. The shelter was nice enough to give us some for his wounds when we got him. This poor little guy looks like he got bit or was in a fight before getting picked up in Brooklyn by animal control. So sad, this boy is not a fighter, and would really have a hard time defending himself, both because of his size, and limited vision. It saddens me to think he had it that tough out there, but his better days are ahead of him now. He gets large doses of LOVE every day now, good food and lots of company.
We are going to take him to the vet this week for a good once over, and have 2 lumps that I have felt looked at and accessed. So, keep your eyes on this boy, and get you app in if you want a good dose of Coby for the holidays.

12/5/03 - Coby is doing nicely. He slept thru the nite in his crate, was pretty quiet. He met all of the dogs, 3 boxers, 1 shar pei and 2 pugs (not all at the same time:o)), and he was fine with them. When he met our foster boxer girl Ocean, she was a bit too rough with him. She scared him a bit as she was pounding her paws right in front of him, so we crated her for a bit.
He is eating beautifully, 1/2 cup 2x's daily, Nutro small bites mixed with yogurt and cold cuts. He eats every drop. His teeth seem to be in very nice shape, if they have his age correct. When you take him out, he does his business in no time flat.
He does have limited vision, but he is quickly getting used to his surroundings. I gave him a very simple "sight test", whereI took my hand and put it about 2 feet in front of his face, and moved it site to side, then up and down, and he definitely followed it.
He had a VERY cute habit when you pick him up and support him with one hand (very easy to do since he is all of 12 lbs) and take you other hand and put it under his neck to pet him, he wraps both paws around your wrist and holds on tight. VERY CUTE!!.
Coby is just a very sweet and cute boy, who is looking for someone who just wants a dog to love. He does not strike me as a dog that will play fetch, or romp around the house like a nut job. He is a very settle boy who loves to cuddle and be loved. Does that sound like a home you can provide? If so, fill out an application for this boy. He is waiting for you.

12/4/03  - Tonight we rescued a very sweet, initially shy boy who we named Coby.  He came into the shelter as a stray, and because of his age, (listed between 8-10 yrs), his general condition, (he had some cuts, puncture wounds, and 2 lumps) he was on the euthanasia list. His right eye is glazed over, most likely a cataract, and he seems to have limited vision in his left eye, and he was shaking in the crate. He seemed like a sweet boy, and definitely deserved another chance for a wonderful home, so out he came.
He drove nicely in the car, and settled down in his crate quickly. We gave him a quick meal before he settled down for the night, and he ate it all. It was almost 1/2 cup and it was "dry", so he must have been pretty hungry. It was pretty late, so we let him get a good night sleep. More tomorrow on this cute little guy.
