11/24/06 - We found Dodger a forever home - my mom fell in love with him this week and is going to adopt him.

11/15/06 - Background: Dodger is a smart, fun, gorgeous puppy that ended up in our home after being shuffled around a whole lot in his first 3 1/2 months of life. His first family left him at a vet in Mississippi at 2mo old because they couldn’t afford the vet bill for his vaccinations. The kind vet just adored this guy and brought him to a Mississippi rescue called CARA, where he was transported up to Vermont and adopted out to a family whose 11th grader wanted him. A week later the 11th grader had proven unfit to care for the dog so they wanted to give him back. He is now living with us until we can find him a wonderful forever home.

Personality/Progress:  He seems unaffected by all his shuffling. His behavior is that of any normal, healthy, well-socialized puppy. He is fully crate trained and loves being in his crate. He is 99% of the way housetrained as well. He occasionally goes #1 in the house, but only if we forget that his little puppy bladder isn’t as large as our full-grown dogs’ bladders.
Dodger loves chewing on things he has to work at: marrow bones, kong toys with peanut butter inside, etc. He is very responsive to a stern ‘no’ when I find him chewing on things he shouldn’t. I don’t think I’ve ever had a puppy this good about chewing.
He is getting along nicely with our boxers. He is a shadow of our 2yr old male. They love rough-housing together and play together very well despite being two young males. Our 6yr old female would rather not deal with the puppy antics, so Dodger is very good about giving her the space she wants. Dodger is very sweet and affectionate toward all humans and shows no fear or aggression whatsoever.

His needs:  I would like to see Dodger in a family that has experience with strong breeds. Dodger is a VERY intelligent dog and learns incredibly fast. He learned sit and shake perfectly in 5 minutes. He will be a great dog for someone who can set up boundaries and structure for him.
He may be able to go to a family without a fenced yard, as he seems to stick around pretty well right now. He will need to be an indoor dog though, and not left outside without supervision.
Dodger will need continued socialization, a professional training class, lots of regular exercise and strong leadership from his humans. He is a wonderful puppy and will be a great dog for the right people.
