4/7/07 - Humphrey has been adopted 4/2/07 - Humphrey is pending adoption 12/25/06 -
Humphrey is a very large, and very lovable 6 ˝- year old, 75 pound
English Bulldog. He was pulled from a high-kill shelter and the people
that took him were not really ready for another dog, especially one of
his caliber! We rescued him from this family who was going to return
him to the shelter. He absolutely loves being outside and is quite
happy running around and then hanging out in a backyard or taking a nice
long walk. However, as is typical bulldog, he can get very stubborn at
times and will decide he is done walking and will sit and not move- then
we have to move him! He gets along fine with other dogs, both large and small, although some of the more active small dogs can irritate him if they keep getting on top of him. He loves his food (an cookies) more than anything and has been trained to sit and he waits for his food to be put down. He also tends to get a bit drooly after a long drink, so always keep an old towel handy to wipe his face. He is great on the leash, although if you are not strong, he can pull you. He will sit when people come over to him. He just loves attention. When he is in the house and wants attention, he can sometimes go about it in a not so appropriate manner. He can also get jumpy and can head-butt you. He can challenge people that he views as “weak” and he absolutely requires a VERY strong (personality wise, not necessarily size wise- I am a small person!) to get him to respect you. What we are saying is he requires a strong and confident “pack leader” Because of this, we will not place Humphrey in a home with young children, and ideally, we would like to see him in an adult, very dog savvy, bulldog experienced home. He does bark a lot, but will quiet down if ignored. He would definitely benefit from formal training, but almost every dog would! The time has come for Humphrey to find his forever home!
