Jack has been adopted by his foster family.  Good luck to them all.

7/23/05 - Jack is pending adoption

5/22/05 - My buddy Jack is really doing great. We had a bunch of people over the house on Saturday for my daughter’s college graduation party, and Jack was just loving all the company. He is really a very personable boy.

Jack is getting more freedom in the home, as he has shown he has earned more trust.

Every day Jack needs to have special drops put in his eyes, and he is so used to the routine he actually seems to enjoy it. I put him up on our washing machine on a nice soft towel, and now Jack just sits down and looks up, waiting for the drops to be put in :o))

When Jack was at the vets a few weeks ago for his neuter, we also had his teeth all cleaned up, and 4 teeth were pulled because they were in BAD shape. Jacks breath is nice and fresh now. Even before the dental work, Jack's tongue slightly hangs out of the left side of the mouth. It seems his upper left canine points out a bit more then normal (instead of being straight down)so his tongue is able to "slip" past his jowls a bit. As you can see, it just adds to his immense cuteness :o))

Jack is all ready to go to his forever home, and boy will I miss this guy. We have really been thru as lot together, and each day when I do his drops 2 x's daily, I have a very nice soft conversation with him, telling him what a good boy he is, and how much I love him, and he gently kisses me during his drops being put in, so I guess you can say there is a nice bond between foster daddy and Jack. But I also know that there is someone out there waiting for him to love him FULL TIME, and that is exactly what this boy deserves!

5/11/05 - OMG, has time flown. I can believe it's been 3 weeks since we last updated Jack. We have lots to tell you.

Jack went back to the eye specialist 2 weeks ago. His injury is all healed, and the stitches were removed. He was pretty good about it, as it was not easy to remove as the nurse was cussing the Dr for using black stitches.... and if you look at Jack's face, that was not the best choice of colors. But like I said, Jack was very tolerant.

The Dr came in after that and thoroughly examined Jack's other eye. He said he still does not see his light going deep into the eye, which means that Jack's vision can’t be all that good, as light is not going deep into his eye. I commented that I was really surprised, as Jack really gets around great. The only thing he seems to bump into would be a wire crate door that’s left open, as he does not seem to distinguish that too well, or he's just clumsy, but other then that, this boy seems to be fine. Outside, he zips around, as he appears to see everything quite well. The Dr said he did not really see much improvement since the last visit, but made us an appointment for 6 weeks later to see. Jack is on 2 different eye drops and now we have added a lubricant to that. He feels that if this does not work, there are some other alternatives, which we can consider. Lets hope we don't have to think about that. He also told us that Jack could get neutered.

We have not observed any other seizures in 3 weeks, so lets just hope that there weren’t any.

Jack got neutered 10 days ago and did great. The vet did his usual neat, clean job, and Jack was back to himself in no time. He also weighed in at 19 lbs and looks terrific. He is no longer mounting any of the dogs, which everyone, including me really appreciates. So now he is allowed to go out with all the dogs, both big and small. We are also letting him out in the house for some closely
"supervised" time, and so far Jack has not lifted his leg anywhere, although we are watching him VERY carefully :o))

He crates great, no problem going in, and settles quickly. He has also started showing a slight interest in toys...mainly a stuffed animal.

So, Jackie boy has really made himself at home and is being a very good boy. We love him, but know that he deserves a home to call his own. He is welcome to stay as long as needed to find his forever home, which we are in the process of doing. If you want to be considered, and feel Jack belongs with you, all I can say is get those apps in now, and mention this boy by name. He's waiting for you!!

4/21/05 - It is time to introduce Jack, our latest visitor to the Wings & Halo Haven. Jack has had a somewhat tough start to his life as a stray. Several weeks ago, Jack was found wandering the streets of Queens. A good Samaritan went to pick him up, but right before they got to him, Jack had what looked like a seizure. His shelter intake papers states "he was standing up, started shaking and almost fell over. He was also hyper salivating and then vomited." Jack was brought to the Brooklyn shelter, which is where we picked him up after his hold period was up.

Jack was not neutered because of his possible seizure issue, and we have been watching him carefully. He did not appear to be housetrained so we crated him when we were not around. He did very well in his crate. He was eating beautifully, and was finishing 2 cups a day, which should help him put a bit of weight on his petite body.

Jack gets along with all of the dogs he has met, both big and small, but was humping some of the smaller, weaker dogs, so we do not let him out with those dogs. The other dogs have shown Jack they will not tolerate the humping, and he has heeded their warnings.

Jack is fairly high energy, and enjoys running around. Last week he had a terrible freak accident in the house. He was running around and rough housing with the other small dogs and they were playing tug-a-war with some stuffed animals and jawing and was having a great time and then it appeared one of the dogs mouth caught Jack up in his face, and we quickly saw Jack had a major accident. He was bleeding from his eye, and we rushed him to the emergency hospital where we sadly learned Jack's eye had been ruptured, his optic nerve severed, and he needed emergency surgery to remove his left eye. Because of the damage the surgeon told us that putting in a glass eye for cosmetics was not possible, and his eye was stitched closed. Naturally, everyone was shocked...the dogs all playing one minute, having a great time, and the next moment Jack lost his eye. Very rough on everyone, and naturally the guilt is enormous :o((

Jack came thru the surgery wonderfully and has been home for a week now. Oddly, the accident had a silver lining, as the specialist, upon close examination of Jack's other eye discovered a condition that was causing limited vision. He feels we caught it early enough and is on several different medications, which he feels, will improve the vision in his right eye. So yes, as odd as it sounds, the accident may have saved the sight in Jack's eye. Jack is adjusting as if nothing has happened. He is up to his old antics, and is showing no effects from the surgery. He gets around just like a dog with perfect sight.

This guy is quite a character. Jack "sings" on cue, if you make a howling sound, he will do the same. It is quite cute.

We have observed what we believe to be a slight seizure a couple of days ago on our deck. Jack started walking slightly stiff legged, and seemed a bit disoriented. It lasted for approx 4 minutes and was over. With Jack’s surgery all sorts of blood tests were done, and everything came back normal. The vet feels that since the seizures are minor and infrequent (not daily) medication will not be required at this time. As we said, we will keep our eyes on this.

Jack is due to go back for a follow up visit to the surgeon next week, and we expect a glowing report. Hopefully he will be able to be neutered soon, and we can find Jack a wonderful forever home.
