7/7/05 - Hi, Romeo is excellent.
This is the greatest little boy ever! My husband can't stop telling
people how great a temperament this dog has. Romeo sits on our porch
with us everyday and just hangs out, he doesn't bark at other animals
when they pass, he's just fine where he is. Of course, he won't go out
without a toy in his mouth. :) We have one small problem, which really
isn't a problem. Romeo has an odor by his face, the vet says it's
because his tears are sitting in his wrinkles under his eyes, but
tomorrow we will take a trip to PetCo and get some eye cleaner. Romeo
has become my little partner, wherever I go that he can come I bring
him. I just can't stand leaving him home alone too much, he's such good
company. We haven't had any accidents, he's eating good, except that he
only eats when we sleep. I feed him and it sits until we go upstairs to
bed and in the morning his bowl is empty. He gets plenty of cookies for
being such a good boy and his new favorite treat is doggie ice cream.
I'll keep you posted of any new news, all good of course.
6/17/05 - Hi, Romeo went to the
vet last night. He's doing very well, he's a little overweight, but he's
healthy. The vet removed two stitches from where he was fixed, cleaned
his eyes, and gave me his flea/tick meds. He's doing excellent at our
house, his appetite isn't all that great, but the vet said it's probably
because of the change and that he'll come around. He's been such a good
boy, I'm really glad we adopted him. I'll keep you updated with any new
news.
6/10/05 - Romeo
has been adopted.
5/5/05 - Again, we are long past
due in updating our Romeo. Maybe it's because we are enjoying his stay
that much? This is really a super dog. He has become very playful
outside, and loves being out there. He runs around the deck, zigging and
zagging all over the place, and when he lets me catch him, he rolls
right over so I can give him a nice belly rub :o)) He loves that. When
we let the dogs out
to do their business, our Romeo will just make himself comfortable on
the deck, and is in no rush to come back in. He has stayed outside for
hours. Rain or shine, it doesn’t bother this guy. On rainy days, I
really appreciate this guy, as he just goes out like nothing is doing,
where as my other guys I have to DRAG out to do their business.
In the house, he has claimed one of my rooms downstairs as his own. He
has his bed and blanket in there, and he gets himself real comfortable
in there. He also collects a bunch of toys and brings them in his room.
I think they keep him company.
He also has this VERY cute habit of standing on his hind legs when he
wants to check something out. Like if he thinks I have a treat on my
work desk, he stands up to get a better view. It is really cute to see.
I have to admit; I am very surprised that Romeo is still here. I guess
there must not be a lot of people looking for a cute Peke, because this
guy is just super. He comes when you call him, is totally housetrained,
and doesn’t get into anything that he shouldn't. He also just loves to
keep you company. Pick him up and put him on your lap, and he will hang
out there for as long as you want him. He is soooo soft, it's almost
therapeutic. Like I said, just a great dog.
We love him to death, but know he deserves his own place and family
where he will just be loved and the center of attention. Does that sound
like something you can offer? If so, get your app in, and ask for him by
name :o))
3/29/05 - Wow, time has really
flown by and we need to tell you how this beauty is doing. He has really
made himself at home, and claimed ALL of the toys as his own :o)). It's
comical; he takes all the stuffed animals and brings them down the
hallway into "his" room. How many toys can dog play with at one time?
:o))
He has shown that he does not like to share his collection with the
other dogs, and has snapped occasionally if one of them wanders into his
room sniffing. He does not do this every time, just sometimes, and a
quick, “HEY, knock it off” is all that is needed to stop the behavior.
We will continue to work on this, and as he gets more comfortable in the
house, this may stop entirely.
He is a VERY happy boy, his tale is always wagging, and when I am on the
computer, he comes over and lifts his paws on my leg. He's letting me
know he wants me to pick him up and put him on my lap, where he quickly
gets comfortable. He will stay there hours if I let him.
He is eating very well now, always cleaning out his bowl. We are feeding
him twice daily. He really likes his no fat vanilla yogurt mixed in with
his dry food at nite. He is also housetrained, and except for a short
bout with diarrhea last week, he has had no accidents in the house. When
I let him out, he runs and does his business soooo fast, you would think
he was trying to break some Guinness book of records :o))
He is really a sweet boy, and has you can see from the pics, he is a
total beauty. So, if you have been thinking of adding a sweetie to your
family, I have your boy right here.
3/12/05 - We have a new visitor at
the Wings & Halo Haven, and he's a VERY cute little boy. His name is
Romeo...and of course, he got that name because he is a total love
machine :o))
His owners turned in poor Romeo to a high kill city shelter because they
said "We have too many dogs". Well, Romeo deserved a much better fate
then that, so out he came, and we will look for a very special home for
him.
When I 1st met Romeo in his cage, he did not seem like a very friendly
boy. I did see him while he was eating, so he was either "crate
aggressive", "food aggressive", both, or maybe he just wasn't a nice
boy, I wondered. So, I left him alone, and went to check out a few other
dogs. When I got back to see him, he had already been moved into the
adoption office, and he was a totally different
boy :o)). Nice, friendly and very easy to handle. So, we will watch him
closely to see if he repeats any of the action I observed, but we will
keep things separate...that is, we will see if he has food issues, or
crate issues. More to follow.
Romeo was neutered yesterday, and his neuter site is pretty bruised. He
is also liking it excessively, so we put a E collar on him so he will
have to leave the site alone until it properly heals.
Romeo has already been heartworm tested negative, and is all UTD with is
vaccinations.
Intro's with the resident 4 legged population went very well. He met 4
boxers, 4 pugs and a Shar Pei, and he was fine with ALL of them. And
since he was the new kid on the block, all of them were practically all
over him, and he had no issues with any of them. Some of the pugs tried
to get him to play, but he seemed a bit tentative, so we put him in an
area of "foster land" where he will not be crowded and have plenty of
room to move around.
His intake form from the shelter says he is housetrained, and he
certainly appears to be. He had one pee and poop accident when I 1st
brought him in the house., but that was my fault as I went upstairs for
a few minutes, and he probably had to go :o)) No other accidents for the
rest of the day, and he has not even attempted to lift his leg. When I
have let him out, he does his business quickly.
He had almost a cup of food tonight, mixed with some non-fat vanilla
yogurt, and some cold cuts and cheese on top, and seemed to enjoy the
meal. Sure beats shelter food, huh Romeo? :o))
He is sleeping comfortably now, and we will do more evaluations
tomorrow, so look for further updates on this boy, who is definitely TOO
CUTE for his own good :o))
