7/17/07 -
Just a quick update on Vinny.  We have had Vinny in our home for just over a year now and we are
so happy that he is here.  Vinny is happiest on the couch snuggled right up next to someone!  He
still loves to run and play with his brother Ozzie.  He loves to  ride in the car and is always the
first one at the door when someone gets near it!  Thank You so much to BAR for bringing Vinny to
us.  We love having him as part of our family.

12/9/06 - Thought it was time for an update on Vinny.
We want you to know how happy we are to have Vinny as part of our family.  He has settled in just fine, like he has always lived here.  He gets along just fine with our two other dogs.  He and Ozzie love to chase each other and "BOX" at least once every day.
He loves to go for a walk and ride in the car.  He is the first one at the door and ready to go.
I work in a nursing home and take Vinny for a visit occasionally.  He just loves the attention and is so good with the residents.  He will sit on someone's lap and let them just hug him. His itcy skin is controlled with a little Benadryl from the vet and you would never know he had a problem.
Thanks again for giving us the opportunity to have Vinny in our family.  Everyday we look at him
and think of where he was found and we are thankful to be able to spoil him.

6/30/06 - Vinny the Shih Tzu my little man did a home visit today for a family who wanted to adopt him so we did it all in one shot. My little man has found his forever home and I know they will just adore him. He has 2 new brothers who are smaller then he is.

The greatest part of the whole visit was watching Vinny play yes that's right play. He was up on his hind legs boxing with his new little brother. It's weird to say boxing but he was he must have been watching Marco the whole time.
I'm actually glad that Vinny was returned and then able to go to this home. I know he will be loved and that nothing will be expected from him but love and companionship in return.

6/29/06 - Vinny is pending adoption.

6/26/06 - Hey all we decided to take Vinny to the vet the other day just to make sure he was free and clear
of all the illnesses he had when he was brought into the shelter by animal control. As you all
have read Vinny was a mess when he got picked up. His fur was matted and he had a raging yeast
infection as well as a really bad ear infection. Well the shaved him down and he had lots of missing
hair but he is now looking more like Shih Tzu. The vet gave Vinny the A OK and said he was a healthy
little guy free and clear of all that nasty stuff. She did say however that Vinny will be a
maintenance dog. Like all Shih Tzu's he will need to be groomed. This is not a chore but rather a treat
Vinny loves bath time and he loves to be blow dried and brushed. I enjoy bath time with Vinny as it
gives us some special alone time. We lock the door so those big crazy boxers can't get in and
bother us. When he is finished with his tubby he lays out on the bath mat to get dried of course he
loves the blow dryer hot but on the slowest setting the fast one scares him and he certainly wants
to relish in the attention as long as he can. Vinny also has dry eye also not uncommon for his
breed eye drops take care of this and at 7 bucks a tube is not a costly investment. The vet also
recommended cleaning out his ears once a month.
Vinny is not asking for a lot just a home where he can take up a spot on the couch and a
home that isn't going to place to many demands on him. We went walking with the troops yesterday
on a 2 mile journey and in all honesty Vinny made it about 1/2 a mile. He then ended up on the lap
of my 4 year old who was riding in her stroller. They were both in their glory :) We love Vinny he
is so easy to have around and is just a guy to hang out with. When you have Vinny around you are
never lonely.
Of course Vinny still does great with the kids and the dogs and he doesn't bother with
the cat. He can co -exist peacefully and doesn't seem to prefer either way if he is the only dog or
one of the pack. He does wait for the big dogs to do everything first though as to stay out of the
way Marco has no courtesy for my little man and will trample him.
Vinny is looking for his forever home where he will be loved and cherished. He is really
hoping it may be someday soon especially with the new arrival of Allie the 19 month old. He is a
good little man. Who is physically and mentally ready to move on. Though his best buddy my daughter
may not be ready :)

6/20/06 - I am sure you all have noticed that my little Italian man is back in the running for a new family. He had one but it fell through. I want to add this because I want to make sure I am not misleading anyone when I am doing my updates. I am very honest in my updates with the good and the not so good. Vinny was brought back to my home after being in his new home for 24 hours when they returned him the reason was he is not active enough. So this is what I am going to repeat because I have said it in all my updates.
Vinny likes to hang out! Relax! Go for a good walk and yes ... Hang out some more. In no possible way is he going to be your jogging partner, your ball fetcher, your frisbee catcher.
Vinny is an 8 year old Shih Tzu aka couch potato, lounge lizard, constant companion. Vinny is not an active guy he is not going hiking anytime soon and certainly isn't going out for the next triathlon.
What Vinny is sweet, loving, cute, easy to have around. Vinny really just wants a place to hang out. Someone who is looking for a little dog to hang out. Someone who wants to come home at the end of the day to be greeted by a staple in their environment. He is excellent with everyone and has lots of quality time to spend. He does like to go for walks and especially likes rides in the car but really his favorite thing to do is sit with you and watch TV. He would be the perfect office companion for a stay at home business person. Or someone who is allowed to have a dog in the office. He doesn't bark at strangers or noises. He is quiet except when he wants his water bowl filled or wants in from outside.
Give Vinny a chance but only if your in the market for what I have described. At 8 you are not going to miraculously change him into something he is not. He was easily someone's pet and has been used to sitting on the furniture and sleeping on a humans bed. He does not want to be gated off so he can't be part of the family.
I really hope this time I have covered everything but then again I thought I had before. Vinny is a cool little guy he really is a good boy deserving of his own family with or with out other animals it doesn't matter to him. He does seem to enjoy being with the kids part of that is he is smart and knows if he is patient enough the will drop some food :)

5/22/06 - Vinny has been with us for a month now. He continues to do very well. Vinny has been allowed to run free in our home. He has always been great with my kids and he is fine with the dogs. He really could care less about them he does not need their company. He is perfectly fine with them but if your looking for a companion for your dog he is not your man. if your looking for a little guy to hang out with and is always sitting where you left him this is your guy. He is little guy but not under your feet I tend to trip more on our boxers then him.
He let's you know when he needs to go out and when he wants to come back in. He sleeps on the bed with me but always curls up at the end so he is of no bother.
He is a really good little guy easy to have around but he is still looking for his forever home. Don't pass him by he has a lot of life and love in him.

5/12/06 - Hi everyone Vinny the Shih Tzu continues to lead a pretty uneventful life here. I say uneventful because he is just the most content little guy. He is extremely easy to have around just give him a spot on the couch and he is in heaven. I even allow him to sleep in my bed which I have never done but he just curls up at the very end so he is no bother.
As you can see though Vinny is a versatile little guy. Being carried to the top of our enormous swing set was of no bother to him. He is even laying down in the other room when we are eating. He has to be reminded usually twice. It is apparent to me that Vinny must have eaten table scraps because he still looks for you to put them in his bowl when dinner is over.
He has had absolutely no issues with the dogs in the house or the cat. He walks well on the leash and likes to walk but he is not like the other dogs when the leash box opens he doesn't come running.
Vinny did his first home visit and enjoyed himself very much. He rides in the car very well too.
Maybe it's the name but Vinny reminds me of the little old Italian guy who lives on every block. Always happy to see you and give a hearty hello. Always ready to sit down with you on the front stoop with a cup of coffee and the paper. Always ready to lend an ear and of course always ready to holler back if he wants something. Vinny is a trip he lets you know what he wants when he wants it. He has a tell tale bark that sounds like he smokes a pack a day and he uses it.
Vinny is a dog that is like something faithful and permanent you know it is going to be there when you walk in the door and it makes you feel good all through out your day knowing your coming home to it. He gives you peace just by being there and he doesn't even have to do anything. If you have a special place on your couch for my little old Italian man. OK don't get me wrong I know the Shih Tzu are of Asian decent but with a name like Vinny and a mobster bark to boot please consider making him a member of your home.

4/29/06- Just wanted to give everyone an update on Vinny the Shih Tzu. He is doing very well here and really coming into his own. When he first arrived he kind of just sat around now he is up and about getting into the thick of things with Maddie and Marco. He is so funny he waits for them to go first at everything. He has gotten to the point were he is fed up with Marco pounding him in the head with his big boxer paws so now he is barking at him and chasing him much to Marco's amusement because this is what he wanted all along. He is determined to make everyone who walks through the door his new playmate. People who are not even fans of little dogs can't help but love Vinny everyone is drawn to him and he really is a good boy. He has a very cute face and I can't wait to see what he will look like when his hair grows back in which it is doing very nicely. If you know of someone looking for a cool little dog who loves hanging out but also loves to play, is good with dogs, cats and kids please ask them to visit our site and fill out an application today.

- Hey everyone please welcome Vinny as the newest member of friends of BAR. Vinny is a super little guy and if ever you wanted a great partner for hanging out Vinny is your man. Vinny still has lots of pep in his step he loves squeaky toys and although Marco beats him every time he will run after them. Vinny has been great with my kids ages 4 and 8. My daughter adores him and he is very receptive of all her love and affection. Vinny has a yeast infection which he is being treated for and once that clears up he will look as handsome as ever although I find him adorable already. Vinny is perfectly house broken and has been allowed free rn of our house since he came to us 2 days ago.
He spent some time at another foster home in which he was crated which apparently he hated he barked for the entire time he was in there. I don't feel the need to crate him so we haven't. He gets along with Maddie and Marco by pretty much ignoring them. he would probably be happiest with another dog who would not pester him. He has taken Marco's big paw pounding him in the head in stride and hasn't complained at all it didn't take Marco long to realize that Vinny is not here for his amusement. Vinny is great off leash and comes when called. He responds better to a whistle or some kind of mouth noise as Vinny was the name given to him at the shelter. Vinny is very motivated by food but is not food aggressive he came running the first night he was here when I asked who wanted a bone :) We did notice that if our dining room chairs are pulled out he will jump on them to get to the table to see if there is anything there. I love Vinny already he is such a cool little dog and so easy to have around. We will keep you posted on how he does here in upstate NY.
