1/25/06 - Just

awesome addition to our family. We really are enjoying him. Calvin our
other dog is happy to have the company, they are inseparable
10/16/04 - Mikey was adopted
10/4/04 - Well, Mikey has finally
made it out of the shelter, and let me tell you, this is one very happy
boy.
Mike spent a long time in the shelter, as he was micro chipped and the
shelter has to give the owners an opportunity to reclaim him. Certified
letters were sent, but no one contacted the shelter to reclaim him. Poor
Mikey had to spend 2 weeks there. That was a long time. I would visit
Mikey while I was there, and he was just a very nervous little boy. Most
of the time, he would huddle all the way in the back of his kennel, not
moving toward me when I would call him. I felt terrible for him, but the
rules of the shelter is that he can not be taken out until the "hold
period" is completed.
So, finally he is out, and we are really enjoying him. There are a few
things we could not figure out, 1st of which is why was Mikey there. When
you meet this boy, the 1st thing you notice is how well he seems to have
been "maintained". His teeth are absolutely beautifully white, and his
nails are perfectly manicured. He is in excellent shape, not skinny at
all. He was also neutered at a very young age. Why wouldn't the people who
lost him come looking for him? Just does't make sense.
We are also trying to figure out how old Mikey is? He was micro chipped 2
yrs ago, but Mikey certainly looks older then 2. The condition of his
teeth as we said is excellent, but he does have a slight touch of gray in
his mask, so we are estimating his age to be somewhere between 3 & 4.
When he 1st came out of the shelter, he was very nervous, and VERY hand
shy. After a very short time acclimating to our home, he came out of his
shell pretty quickly, and joined the crew of pugs and boxers. He fit right
in.
Oh, and how come we are calling him Mikey you may wonder, well when we
brought him home we just started randomly started calling out names, and
when we said "Mikey", he looked right over to us, and his tail started
going back and forth, so we kept saying it with more and more enthusiasm,
HI MIIIIIIKEEEEEY.....HI MIKEY!! and he jumped up on us, soooooo, Mikey it
is.
He didn't have much of an appetite for the 1st few days, and had diarrhea,
but he has been improving, and is eating better now. His temperament is
1st class, he is just a delightful boy who freely gives kisses, and enjoys
all sorts of company, dog or people.
We will take him to the vet this week for a good look over, and heartworm
and fecal test, and them Mikey will be looking for his new home. This is
really a super little guy, and I know he will not be around long. So, stay
tuned for further updates on this cute little guy.
