4/9/12 - Mae is pending adoption 2/13/12 - Mae continues to be a very sweet, gentle girl. She is over her kennel cough so last weekend she met her foster sisters, Star and Sara. Introductions went fairly well. Star decided to introduce herself one day, as I was taking Mae outside and they were instantly best friends. The interaction between Sara and Mae, however, is still a work in progress. Mae is fine with both of her fur sisters. Sara is the one who is not sure she likes Mae. They have been getting along better this week but I still keep them separated most of the time. Mae is a submissive girl and should get along well with any other dog. She has not been introduced to my cats yet. She has seen them but is not overly interested. Hopefully this next week I will have a chance to test her with one of the cats. Mae met my young grandchildren this last week and mostly ignored them so I think she would be fine with children under 5 yrs. My only concern is that she is a big girl and will sometimes jump on me for attention - although she did not try to jump on my 5 yr. old granddaughter. It is just that she might be a little overwhelming for a small child. Mae is housetrained - no accidents since she arrived. She is crate trained - she just would rather not be in a crate too long. She had no problem breaking out of my crate after about 6 hours of being confined. However, she is fine left out of the crate when I am not home - she does not make messes or destroy things. Mostly she sleeps on her dog pillow - or on the couch if no one is paying attention. She will get off the couch when asked. I am working on getting Mae to the vet for her well pet visit and her spaying. Then she will be ready for adoption. Get your application in for this beautiful girl. 1/31/12 - Gorgeous Mae arrived today thanks to the Mayor's Alliance transport. She is a big girl but very sweet. She is a flashy honey-colored fawn girl with a white chest, necklace, face blaze and socks. We went for a short walk after Mae got here and she walked very nicely on the leash with hardly any pulling. She knows the commands sit and paw. Stay and down need some work. Currently she is confined to a crate or my computer room because she is sick with a cold. The cold is also keeping her from being introduced to her foster sisters, Star and Sara, as well as my cats. Mae seems to be housetrained and, so far, is not a high energy girl. She loves attention and would be very happy to climb into my lap to sleep - but at 64 lbs. she is not lap dog size. I have checked her all over for lumps and bumps - unfortunately finding a few - and Mae did not object to me touching her anywhere. She could not be spayed at the shelter because she was sick so she is not quite ready to be adopted. Get your applications in for this beauty - she will not be here long.
