8/8/11 - We dropped Molly off with Ed today while we are away on vacation. Ed is a professional dog trainer that has helped BAR out with many dogs. Molly is not a tough case, but we really want a proper assesment of how she is with other dogs and also to see if she can learn how to walk without pulling (without using the halti collar). We were sad to see her go but she is in great hands with Ed and we can't wait to hear some positive things about her stay with him. Molly has put on more weight and is starting look to great! After talking to some people that have experience with dietary issues, we have found that Molly does not digest grains well so she is now on a grain-free kibble. She should be able to see a vet in another month or so to get spayed.   Molly continues to win the hearts of everyone who meets her. She is a MUSH if there ever was one!

7/20/11 - Sorry it has been so long between updates.  Molly continues to be a sweet, loving dog. She is so good with my kids! She listens and wants to please, loves to get her belly rubbed and find a comfy spot on the end of a bed.   You can tell by her recent pictures that Molly has really started to put on some weight. She does not require a lot of excersise. We have her out twice a day for to do her business and she is happy to just look around the yard and chase the occasional bird that might catch her eye and then goes right back inside without hesitation or resistance. At night we take her for a long walk-I know she looks forward to this. We go out later to avoid the heat and other dog walkers. By the time we get back she is panting and tired. That seems to be all she needs. When my daughters are in the room with her she sleeps most of the time. She is not a big runner in the yard so we feel the nightly walks are the best exersise for her. Our other dogs run round our fenced in yard and chase each other, but since we have not found our dogs not to be good with Molly, this is the next best thing. Most Boxers require much more than this, so if your lifestyle suits minimal activity or if you don't have a fenced in yard- she would do fine.  We are really hoping Molly can find her forever home soon!

6/28/11 - Molly continues to gain weight and is really starting to show a wonderful personality! She is getting more energy and we see her really coming out of her shell. When she first came to us she would cower when we walked into her room and it would take her a minute to give wags and kisses. Molly is GREAT with people! We still see issues with Molly and other dogs. We've noticed when we are walking her that there are a few small dogs in the nighborhood that come out and bark at her as we walk by- Molly doesn't even flinch. BUT...when she sees a big dog or hears a deep bark that really gets her attention and she goes crazy. We bought a "Halti" collar for her and she can't pull at all- this has been a real blessing for everyone! We can take Molly for very long walks and she is well behaved. She has also come into her bark- no more "squeak". Maybe she was very weak before or perhaps wherever she was she had a collar on and pulled all the time, injuring her (?). Either way, she does bark but only when she sees us out in the yard or when my dogs bark in the house. ,We have been letting our dogs spend more time walking by Molly when she is in her crate and the stare-downs continue. We correct this behavior with a spray bottle of water and our dogs respond- Molly gets fixated and will not break her stare. I am still not 100% convinced that she could not get along with another dog (maybe if it was a smaller dog) but in our house with 3 boxers, the "pack" might be too much for her. We wish so badly she was better with them because we would keep her in a heartbeat! She would make a wonderful family pet. She has recently had a few accidents in the house- not sure if it is because she resents not being allowed downstairs with the rest of us or what...I walked her for almost an hour last night and she did not stop once to sniff, pee or poop. Once back upstairs in her room we got her a big dish of fresh cold water and let her relax. 5 minutes later we returned to see that she had left us a nice surprise! She was so good the first two weeks we had her so this is quite disappointing. This does not mean that she cannot be trained- she has proven to be crate trained and what we will do now is just keep her in ther crate more until she can be trusted again.,Hopefully Molly will be seeing the vet soon and get approved for her spay. She really needs to get in her forever home soon. Poor girl seems like she has had a tough life and loves just getting affection. She would make someone a very loyal, loving companion.

6/20/11 - Molly continues to be a sweetie. Her new nickname is "Moll-doll". She is doing well; she is slowly putting her weight back on and her coat is getting a nice sheen to it.  The more she is with us the more apparent it is that she needs to have her own home where she has no limits. She would be fine in a house- she is not one bit destructive. She is currently living in our upstairs as she has not been fairing to well with our 3 boxers. She looks out the window when our dogs are outside running and playing like she would love to join them, but when she sees them through her crate and a gate she fixates on them and any closer intros do not turn out positive. I am going to try her with, Missy, a Boxer that she was transported with- she seemed fine with her the day I got her from the driver. I will keep the site posted on her progress with that.  Molly is learning fast how to walk/behave on a leash. She is very attentive and needs just a gentle reminder. She will get pulling hard when she sees another dog or a cat, but again, with a reminder of who's in charge she quiets right down. She will need to know that YOU are walking HER, not the other way around because she is extremely strong!!!Molly loves to get attention and loves to get her belly rubbed. She is submissive to people and loves to be "in the mix".  Hopefully we can work with Molly to get her used to dogs, but truthfully, if that is not a factor in your case, she is the perfect pet.

6/15/11 - We got Molly last Wednesday from the transport driver, up from a city shelter. I was surprised to see her, while extremely underweight, she is a big dog; different from the pictures sent by the shelter. She is skin and bones throughout, but her frame is big (wide, not tall) and her head is huge. I will say the cross looks more like a Mastiff and American Bulldog rather than Boxer/Bulldog. Even in the pictures I took, it is very deceiving.   Molly is a strong dog. We will work on her leash skills because when she puts weight back on she will be a lot to handle. She tends to fixate on animals when she is walking and you really have to break her concentration in order to proceed.  Molly is very sweet; a big mush who likes to give kisses. She has been great with our three teenagers and great with adults. Not scared of men. She has no problems going in her crate but she needs an extra-large one. She has not shown any interest in toys, even kongs with treats in them. She is not destructive. She enjoys her long walks but does appear to be in need of tons of activity. She is not high-strung. Molly is attentive and appears to be quite intelligent.  Her nose was snotty when we got her and she sneezed a lot, but that is all cleared up. Eyes and ears are clear. She eats good, not picky. I have been feeding her rice, pasta and potatoes with yogurt and a handful of Nutro Max dog food. I tried touching her dish and moving it and she was fine with it so I don't see any food aggression. She is almost done with her meds(she's on Doxy 3 X/day) and takes them with no problem.  Molly has next to no bark- it's almost like a squeak, but every time one of our dogs walks by she stares at them and if they walk away she "squeaks".  I am not sure how she would do in a house with one dog, but in my house with three dogs she appears aggitated and does show sign of agression. We are doing intros very slowly to see if Molly is truely not dog-friendly or if it is because of the "pack" situation in my house. My gut tells me that she would be best in a home with no other animals but it is still early to tell
