11/10/08 - Molly is pending
adoption.
10/2/08 - Greetings
from Miss Molly! We are happy to report that she is really
beginning to feel much better. We did her first at-home mange
treatment dip over the weekend. She did well, though she didn't
like having to wait 5 minutes for the medication to soak in before
she could leave the tub! Since then she has been protesting even
going into that bathroom. We have one more treatment to do in about
2 weeks. The vet is hoping that the mange will be cleared up after
her last treatment. She only has a couple red spots left on her
cheeks and around her head area.
Other than her mange issue, Molly has settled in at our home very
well. She is one of the family and has taken to all our routines
rather quickly. She now has a wonderful appetite and even waits
patiently for scraps from our other boxers dinner while she
finishes. She rarely turns her nose up at a meal like she did when
she first came. It goes to show that she is definitely feeling
better.
With the exception of her skin issues, Molly is pretty much a
perfect senior boxer girl. She knows her commands, listens well,
and behaves beautifully. She has a good amount of energy and plays
well with cats and
dogs of all ages and sizes. She sleeps though the night and
does not have accidents in the house. We look forward to many more
happy days with Miss Molly
9/17/08 - Molly went back
to the vet last week and had her dip treatment for her mange. The vet
reported that she did very well. He told me that Molly seems to be a
very sweet dog, and by the time I went back to pick her up that
afternoon, she had made friends with all the vet techs and was hanging
out in the back room with them!
Molly seemed to react okay to the dip and we are very happy to report
that some of her beautiful white hair is beginning to grow back! When
we first got her, she had no hair from her neck to her little bald nub.
She looks so much better now! We told Molly that by winter, she should
be good as new!
We can tell that Molly is beginning to feel much better. Just today
when I got home from work, I let her out in the yard. She and our other
energetic boxer girl were blasting around the yard at full speed. This
is great to see, as when Molly first came, she did not run at all.
We are very happy with the progress that Molly has made since coming
into rescue. Even though she just turned 11 years old last week, she
acts much younger. I can only hope that she has a few more wonderful
years ahead of her!
9/5/08 - Happy Friday from
little miss Molly! We just got back from a week of camping with her and
she had a wonderful time! Even off the leash Molly stayed right with us
and enjoyed fishing and the campfire. I wasn't sure how she was going
to do in the tent, but wouldn't you know, she slept right through the
night with no problems. We took her for a couple walks, and she did very
well on the leash. Even when she passed a campsite with other dogs in
it, she would just glance their way and keep walking.
Next week we will be bringing Molly back to the vet to have her treated
with a dip for her mange (as she was allergic to the last medication we
tried). We are hoping that she reacts well to this new med so we can
get her back to good as new. She is still itchy and does not have much
hair on her back end. Even so, she is still a beautiful girl!
Molly is definetly becoming attached to us (more to me than my
husband). She does not let me get too far out of the room before she
follows me to see where I am going. She's like my little shadow! The
only room she doesn't follow us into is the bathroom because she knows
this is where she gets her baths! She doesn't really seem to mind them
once she's in there, but she loves the way she feels afterwards! She
runs around the house rubbing on the couches like she was a puppy.
Anyway, much more to come in the adventures of Molly!
8/24/08 - Ms. Molly has
been with us now for almost one month and we love her to death. She has
such an upbeat, quirky personality. We have taken her on the boat a
couple times, which she really seems to like. She wasn't sure about her
life jacket at first, but quickly got used to it. Once she was
comfortable in it, we took her in the water to see if she could swim.
She looked a little panicked at first, but then realized that the jacket
would keep her afloat. I have to say though, she was pretty happy to
get back onto dry land!
Ms. Molly has had some ups and downs over the last couple weeks. We
have been treating her with medication for her mange, but she reacted
negatively to is and it was recently determined that she is allergic to
the first medication we tried. There is a second medicine that the vet
recommeneded for her mange, so we will try this next. We will keep our
fingers crossed that this one will be effective and she can tolerate it
well so we can get her better.
Molly is very well trained. She listens when called and stays near us
at all times. She seems to be closer with females, as she took to me
and my sisters reather quickly. She loves my husband as well, but given
the choice, she comes to my first (much to my husband's annoyance!)
Molly eats well and shows no signs of aggression towards anyone.
Hopefully I will be writing again soon with good news on Molly's medical
condition!
8/10/08 - Greetings from
Molly! I have to say, Molly is starting to feel much better now that
she is on medication for her bladder infection and her mange. She is
still a little itchy, but we try to make her feel better by bathing her
with oatmeal shampoo every so often. Molly doesn't even seem to mind
getting a bath!
Molly's personality is really starting to come out now. She loves her
bone and will walk around with it all over the house, hanging from her
mouth. She is definitely a cuddler and will often climb right up into
my lap, despite me having a magazine and a pillow on my lap. She just
looks at me with those sad, boxer eyes and I melt.
Molly is very well behaved. She does well on a leash and stays near when
off the leash. She is good with dogs, cats, strangers and kids. She
knows all her commands (sit, lie down, off, come, ect) and she is a good
listener. More to come!
8/2/08 - Molly is settling
into our home very well. She fell right into our routine and is getting
along very well with everyone (people,
dogs and cats
included!). She sleeps though the night, and she also does very well
during the day while we are working. She is not crate trained, but she
is a very well behaved girl with no separation anxiety. Molly is a very
laid back girl who goes with the flow. She is definitely a cuddler, as
she loves to climb up on the couch with us and curl up.
Molly took her first boat ride with us today! She wasn't really sure
about her life jacket
at first, but she quickly got used to it and enjoyed the ride. She
looked on curiously as we caught our first fish and showed it to her. I
will update her page soon with some of her boating pictures.
Since my last update, Molly has been to the vet for additional tests.
The vet did an untrasound on her heart and found that her
irregular heartbeat
was the result of
aortic stenosis (a partial obstruction to the flow of blood as it
leaves the left side of the heart). Despite this fact, he found that
she has good heart functioning and indicated that no treatment was
needed for this condition. Also, poor Molly had a very bad bladder
infection, which she was given antibiotics for. Hopefully she will be
feeling much better soon!
7/28/08 - Welcome to Molly
the white boxer girl!! Molly is the sweetest thing. Upon meeting her,
she greeted me with sideways boxer wiggles and a sweet personality.
Molly is 10 years old, but she is young at heart! When I asked her if
she wanted to go for a ride, her floppy ears perked up and she began
wagging her little nub. She jumped right into my car as if she had
known me forever!
Molly first met our other female boxer through a gate, and immediately I
could see that she was fine with other dogs. She said hello and then
went on her way. She was around other dogs this morning at the vet's
office as well, and she was very polite. She wagged her nub and went
about her business. Molly appears to be more submissive. She has shown
no signs of aggression what-so-ever. We also had kitty introductions
yesterday as well (as our very outgoing cats walked up to her and began
to rub against her!). Molly sniffed the tops of their heads and let
them walk right by! It looks like she is going to fit in very well
here!
I brought Molly to the vet's office today and she was brought up-to-date
with all her immunizations. Molly has Demodex Mange, which we will be
treating to help her feel better as she is a little itchy now. The vet
also wants to run some additional tests on Molly, as she had an
irregular heartbeat. Despite these issues, Molly seems to be an upbeat,
happy girl who is happy to have found a loving home to rest her head.
Many more updates to come!
